I purchased this lens used because I needed an 18mm zoom lens for personal shooting. It is flawless and without any signs of wear or use, like all the used lenses I purchased before this one. Works great, and photos come out looking wonderful.

I have been using this lens for about 9 years I wouldn't trade it for anything, my go to lens for everyday shooting.

I bought this lens used. It is one incredible lens. The zoom range is great. The quality is excellent. I use it with my D5300 and my D300S. It's on my D300S most of the time and it's a great all around lens.

I have been using the 18-70mm lens since I bought a D200 kit about a decade ago. Two years ago I stumbled and fell, with the lens hood striking the ground. A few weeks later the zoom mechanism froze up. I opened up the lens (lots of very tiny screws) and found the problem. The zoom mechanism used three cam rollers to move the lens elements. Each has a screw that fastens the roller in place. These screws are supposed to be held in place with lock-tight, but apparently the shock of the fall broke it loose. This leaves the screw free to turn as the cam roller turns. Eventually the screw backs out and allows the roller to bind. This locks up the zoom mechanism. I tightened the screw and the mechanism worked OK. Then I used a small drop of black enamel paint to prevent the screw from turning and reassembled the lens. It worked OK for quite a while and then the zoom mechanism froze up again. I suspected that my repair failed, but when I disassembled the lens again I found that a second screw had come lose. I tightened it and applied a small drop of black enamel to that screw and the third screw (that hadn't come loose yet). After reassembling the lens it is again working correctly. I have attached a photo showing the screw that came loose.

This is my second purchase of this lens. The first lens I bought , my son was so impressed of how sharp it is that I gave it to him. Then he didn't really want to part with it, so I bought another one which is just as sharp. I originally read a VG review from Thom Hogan's web site. He indicated that although it had been offered as a kit lens, he felt it was worth looking at again as (More that a kit lens)

This is a semi-pro lens and has high quality optics and ED coatings. Pair it with a 70-300mm IF ED and a 50mm 1.8G. You'll have a lens for every occasion thats very close to professional quality. You can buy all three of these lenses used for about $800. Then you have pro quality results on the cheap. This is my secret weapon and is my walk around lens. Its on my camera (D5100) 80% of the time. I get results very close to professional quality with this set of gear.

Now my everyday-carry lens...just right for me. Adorama service was superb, as always! Strongly recommend paying the slightly extra shipping for UPS, as the Post Office is very good at losing things (happened to me TWICE)!!

I used this lens for years with the D70 and D300. Now with the 1V1 or 1J1 it is just fantastic. With the CX sensor it performs better than the Nikon 1 lenses but not as good as my old AIS prime lenses.....Highly recommended for the Nikon 1 series as it is so balanced a package.

Light, good range, sharp and durable - what's not to like? There's no VR so you have to shoot at 1/100 or faster at the long end but with iso speeds today that shouldn't be a problem. If you can find one in good shape it should cost about the same as an 18-55mm and it's a much better lens.

I purchased this lens new with my D70 back in I think 2003 or 2004. I now have a D7100, and this lens is plenty good enough for Nikon's top of the line DX camera. It doesn't have VR, but it is sharp with beautiful colors and bokeh. I think this was one of Nikon's first DX specific lenses, and they really did a good job on this one. I'll be using mine for another ten or twenty years. If you can find a used one in excellent condition, by all means buy it. This lens makes the Nikkor kit lenses look like junk.

This lens is sharp and focusing fast. It's so quiet. It's plastic but build quality is not bad for the price. I will use it as carry around lens with my Nikon DX DSLR every day for street photo.

General use lens that is much better than the kit lens supplied by Nikon on their lower end DSLRs. Metal mount, well constructed, clear and versatile.

Love to snap pictures with this lens. It is a fraction of the cost of the 18-200 mm with the same results at mid range to closeup shots.

This maybe the best Nikon mid-range kit lens. It lacks only the VR but it can do without it. It is small and constructed just like more expensive lenses.

I had this lens repaired after the warranty ran out, a bit over two years ago. Last week at a very important event, while zooming, the entire guts of the lens spewed out on to the street, I have been a loyal Nikon customer for more than 30 years. Nikon does not stand behind the warranty work and this lens does not have the quality of reliability that I expect from the brand.

It's a good lens I guess, but after 5-6 years noticed dust spots on the images, which, after cleaning all cleanable lens surfaces and consulting experts, is caused by dust that somehow got inside the lens. i have been advised that it is not worth the money to open the lens and have it cleaned which means the lens is useless

Got this lens with a D70 several years ago. I have probably shot well over 10,000 exposures with it. I still use it as my "normal" lens most of the time - no matter which body I use. I am a retired pro and now just shoot for fun. And this lens certainly adds to the fun!

This lens came with my D-70. It will only zoom in small restricted intervals. It is jammed between 30-40 mm, so I can't use the full range of zoom capability. Very frustrating and now can't accept any jobs unless I use my 70-300mm. I guess I will have to pay to have it repaired as I can't afford a new one. :(

I SHOOT WITH A NIKON D90 WITH A F2.8 LENS. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THIS LENS BRINGS EVEN SHARPER, BETTER QUALITY IMAGES AND IT HAS REALLY BEEN A LIFESAVER ON OCCASION.

This lens has been on my D70 since day one. Now the D70 is converted to IR and Life Pixel recommended the lens for IR and calibrated my D70 for it. Today, I am into my D7000 with the 28-300 and now anticipating full-frame awaiting my D800 to use with my 70-200mm. However, I am just as proud of my 18-70 IR images as the state of the art lenses.

I use the lens as my primary lens. I take a lot of photos of the grandchildren which includes action as they are active. The photos are sharp. the only negative is the lens is not great in low light as flash is required. Of course, the lens didn't cost $ either.

I got this lens with my d200 and after 25000 shoots it just broke down. The zoom and autofocus rings become stuck. I know the problem - there are some screws in the lens that become loose and causes this problem. I expected more than 25000 shoots from Nikon lens. But I could say only good about this lens. I like the wide 18mm and possibility to reach 70mm. Great for begginer. If it had f/2.8, it would be real treasure. Repair costs on street for my problem = 80$

The AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED covers a very popular focal length range (equivalent to 27-105mm in 35mm format), and offers a selection of Nikon's highly regarded technologies such as Silent Wave motor (AF-S) for super fast and quiet autofocus operation, Extra-Low Dispersion glass (ED) for minimized chromatic aberrations, and Internal Focusing (IF) for convenient and balanced handling.
In addition, the AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED also incorporates hallmark Nikon features that customers have come to expect from Nikkor lenses, such as distance information guide window, a reliable metal lens mount for years of durability, and a M/A mode for seamless switching between autofocus and manual modes.
Designed exclusively for use with DX Format SLR cameras, DX Nikkor lenses deliver a versatile range of angle-of-view, higher performance, and outstanding center-to-edge-to-corner image quality, while realizing smaller and lighter designs. All DX Nikkor lenses have a picture angle comparable to that of 35mm format lenses with a 1.5x factor.
Of course the 18 - 70 mm DX is the perfect complement to the newly announced D70 digital SLR
