The King of the Seas!!!

This camera is excellent I have it for 5 years and is the best investment of all gives you amazing battery life, plus your seal is ideal, we have wet sea waves taking pictures of whales and nothing happens just continues to work bursts of 8fps without problems, the ideal companion 70-200mm VR the best in its class. Thanks Nikon for giving me the best pictures of whales in my life. I hope my D4 very soon!

Best camera I ever used

My old newspaper got these to replace the D2X we all had, and it was such an improvement. After two days I was shooting better than before. Easy to learn, great handling, heavy but substantial, awesome battery power, incredibly fast start-up and operation, a truly professional camera in all respects. Excellent color, low noise in normal ISOs (to 800), RAWs are wonderful, even jpgs are great. Between the ease of working with it, and the quality of images, and the quality of build, it was the best camera I ever used.

Not for the faint of heart!

This is definately a Pro user DSLR. Features are countless and ease of operation is sublime.Handling and controls well placed and within view. Focusing is extremely fast and precise, works best with Nikon series AF lens. Battery power is more than efficient to provide hours of shooting at high speeds. FPS are excellent even at 800 ISO in limited lighting conditions. Option to shoot at 100 ISO is a plus on bright days and color renditions are superb giving you 35mm quality prints beyond 20"x14" when shooting in RAW . Camera handles very well under extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Start up is blazing fast which allows user to shoot instantly. I will soon be looking forward to the purchase of my D3S, but in the meantime this camera is above and beyond for what any semi pro or pro consumer needs it to do. This is a high quality built, user friendly camera that I would recommend to any one in the field. Thanks, Nikon!

you get what you pay for

The Nikon D2Xs is a pro body that allows you great tweaking in-camera of your pictures, or snapshot-like photos without the worry. The 3 banks of settings are a godsend for photographers who shoot in multiple conditions (portrait, scenery, etc.). The controls are logically placed on the D2Xs and are very sturdy. The camera itself feels (and is) rugged and exudes a sense of robustness. The D2Xs' price is relatively high, but that old adage applies here - "you get what you pay for".

A premium first-class camera from Nikon!

I feel the D2Xs is extremely well designed and well built. It offers an amazing array of features that can be customized to the user's preference. Initially it requires one to study the manual to learn about its many features and controls. But the information is well presented and easy to understand. I got what I feel were excellent results my first time out with the camera. With the D2Xs, digital photography is even more fun than conventional film photography. Using Photo Shop Elements 5.0, my wife can do fantastic things with the digital images. We liked our first digital camera, Nikon's Coolpix 990, but the D2Xs with its ability to interchange lenses and its advanced capabilities is a quantum leap forward photographically in every way.

Worth every penny

I purchased the D2Xs as an upgrade for my existing D70s and stalwart old F3. I have to say, the camera is nothing short of amazing. After a bit of a learning curve (made shorter if you're already a Nikon enthusiast), the results speak for themselves. If it's in your budget, it's worth every penny.

Great body

By Winegen

I've had this body ever since it came out and has never given me a problem. As a wildlife photographer it doesn't get babyed. From mud, heat, sand, snow, even juice from a ham that got spilled on it. It just keeps going.

D2xs shares many performance and design innovations with the D2x. It also offers Nikon's acclaimed DX-format CMOS image sensor capturing 12.4 million effective pixels per image, producing 4,288 x 2,848-pixel images with the high resolution and sharp detail needed for demanding professional assignments. The D2xs, however, also introduces a range of revised features that make operation significantly more responsive including refined viewfinder performance that makes for easier composition when shooting in Nikon's exclusive High-Speed Crop mode, a new 2.5 inch LCD with a 170-degree wide viewing angle calibrated at the factory to ensure consistent color fidelity, significantly increased battery life and a wide range of firmware enhancements.

Other Upgrades include
• High-Speed Crop Mode (HSC) Automatic Viewfinder Mask,
• Continuous Burst (buffer) in HSC (6.8 MP) mode: 38 JPEG, 29 NEF (D2x had 35 JPEG),
• 3 Custom Tone Curves versus 1 for D2x,
• Save and Load Settings,
• NEW HI-1, HI-2 (1/3 increments) ISO Range,
• Focus Tracking with Lock On (Long, Normal, Short, Off)
• In-Camera Trimming (Cropping)

Professional high speed performance is realized through the D2xs's ability to capture 12.4 megapixel JPEG images or RAW images at a rate of up to 5 frames per second in continuous shooting mode, while continuous shooting at a rate of up to 8 frames per second is made possible through use of the High-Speed Crop mode that captures a more specific, central area of the frame at 6.8 megapixel resolution.

  • 4-Channel Independent Data Output

  • High-Speed Crop Mode with Automatic Viewfinder Mask
Continuous shooting at a rapid 8 frames per second is possible when using the High-Speed Crop Mode at 6.8 megapixel resolution. An enhanced viewfinder features a semi-transparent mask that activates when the HSC Mode is set, providing added simplicity and confidence when composing.
