We got this to record our daughters wedding on nov 6.  Just by practicing with the instructions we can see made the right decision to buy this product

For the wedding

Only used it once, but it seems to do what it's supposed to do. Attached it to a Nikon P1000 for video. So far, all's well.

Overall I like this mike.  It has excellent quality sound and good noise rejection.  I am not overly happy with its range as it seems to be limited to only a couple hundred feet.  Indoors and up close it is fantastic, but outdoors with the sound far away not so much.

Nikon Microphone

I wanted a microphone to improve audio quality for short interview-style videos. I returned this one because you cannot plug in a headset to hear the audio as I am recording. In addition, the tests I ran resulted in a lot of wind/air and background noise. I upgraded to the Shure VP83F and am much more satisfied with its capabilities.

Better to spend a little more

I got the ME-1 to improve the sound quality of video recording with my Nikon D7000 and I was happy with the results. I was recording classroom activities in an elementary school and the microphone picked up varying levels of sound with good clarity.
Because I don't do much video recording, price was a consideration; the ME-1 is a good value.

The mic removes most of the lens zoom sounds from the video.

Piece of cake!

Did a short video using the microphone and had a fantastic result. the sound is very clear up to about under 20 feet distance. I'm excited to use it in an event I will be doing shortly.

Fantastic Hobbyist accessory for use

I just hade a chance to try this microphone on Nikon D7100
It is an excellent microphone for the camera, both indoors and outdoors.
     I look forward to using it at my sons wedding this summer.

I am a professional photographer that also does some video of wildlife. I have been searching for a external microphone for a year or so and I think this one will meet my needs.

THERE IS A WHITE NOISE THAT IS CONTINUOUS. THE NIKON 5200 INTERNAL MICROPHONE IS BETTER THAN THIS. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. AND AFTER I TOLD THEM ABOUT IT... SAID THAT IS JUST HOW IT IS.

The on-board microphone on the Nikon D7100 isn't bad, but I wanted something better to record the voice.

Awesome addon for Nikon DSLRs

Bought ME-1 for use with Canon VIXIA R500 camcorder. Didn't work, no audio, had to return it. Bought a RODE stereo pro (which has 9v battery) it worked perfectly.

Compatibility

It's a Nikon, what more do I need to add. Quality make, works as you'd expect...

Great quality

This works ok for eliminating wind noise but I can still hear the camera noises like the focus the same as if I wasn't using the mic at all. I didn't think much of it because I didn't know it was supposed to eliminate the autofocus noise until I read the other reviews on here where people are saying it does that for them. Now I'm thinking I got a piece of junk dud mic and now it's too late to exchange it because I bought it so long ago. Feeling really ripped off by Nikon. I'm also wondering now if it's my camera that's the problem. Either way I got ripped off.

I should have saved my money. I expected big things but got only about a 10% imrovement over the quality of the audio versus the onboard mic.

This mic is omnidirectional and picks up detailed sounds.

Awsome clarity

very good product with to settings flat and low cut witch both are very useful. i take it everywhere an dit is nice and small it fits in my camera bag perfectly. it works great with my nikon d5100.

great for videos and just recording in general

This is a welcome addition to DSLRs that have only a monophonic built-in microphone. Note that, while the ME-1 works with the Nikon 1-V1, the mounting foot won't fit the accessory shoe mount, which is too close to the eye level view finder anyway. Since the V1 has a built in stereo mic, this is not a big issue. I had found that my old 28-105 zoom lens made a lot of autofocus squeals, so moving the microphone off the camera body was very important if I want to use that old but excellent lens for video on my D800.

Cure for noisy old AF lenses

I have had this microphone for about 8 months now. I originally used it on my Nikon D7000 and it is a HUGE improvement over the built in microphone. As time went on and my passion for DSLR filming grew I eventueally moved on to an external recording device (Zoom H1N, check it out!). But I sitll use this for audio in camera and as a referense track. Works very well and the design and build is solid over all. Easy to mount and remove. The moderate price point is appealing. I saw acomparison between this and a Röde microphone, and it was a close call so it delivers good audio quality. If you want better audio than the built in mic without going for a dedicated external recorder, this is a very good choice indeed!

A worth while upgrade from the built in DSLR microphone!

I got this mic for my D3200. Thinking it is going to improve the sound quality and make it a surround sound; it did not! I am very disappointed with this MIC. Also, although the Mic looks well built, putting the soft cap on the mic seemed to be difficult and i was worried to tear the spunge soft cap apart while putting it. Also, the flash on the D3200 is unusable while the Mic isinstalled on the camera body. Nikon should definitely reconsider a new design for their Mic!
