Use so far has been limited, but it has certainly lived up to my expectations to date.

Pro small and light with enough power for fill flash Cons - plasticky and battery door is flimsy and ready to break anytime. Controls are loose and feel weak.

Nice compact flash with good features for price point. This my first Nissan flash and I've been very impressed with the unit so far. Definitely recommended.

I was looking for a small flash for my Sony a6300 and came upon the Nissin. After reading the reviews I decided to give it a try. I have a Canon 6D and use a Canon 580ex flash and was pleasantly suprised to find that this little flash was as powerful as my large canon flash.

The perfect flash for Fujifilm users. Very compact to go nicely with the mirrorless series. Plenty of output. The LED continuous light is not extremely bright, but helps with focus, making a catchlight in the eyes, or works well for a fill when you're indoors and the ambient light is harsh. I had to have this one serviced after a drop, and the company that services this product was incredibly friendly, helpful, and charged a ridiculously cheap price for the fix, btw.

It's the smallest HSS flashlight I could find and it does exactly what I need. Good recycle time actually better than i thought possible for such a light unit.

You need to send it in to Nissin's US distributor in order to get the firmware updated, you can't do it yourself. It currently does not work for the Fujifilm X-T2, though I'm sure it will. With the X-T1 you can do HSS, not sure if you will be able to do it on the X-T2 when it's updated. Anyway, I'm sure the little flash is great, it's just sort of a hassle to send it in even if the update is at no charge.

My Oly OM-D EM1 needed a more versatile unit than the attached flash. This little guy synchs to 1/8000 sec., and is light enough that it sits on camera well. The swivel head has a bounce screen and a "wide" grid that can also hold a color filter to match indoor/fluourescent/whatever. It's so light that it sits on top of a light stand without risk. And the operations are so intuitive, with just a couple of dials. The zoom is auto-coupled to the Em1, or manually modified easily. It's going everywhere I travel, guaranteed.

I bought this to go with my Sony A6000. It works flawlessly and has enough power for what I do. I traded from a Canon system to Sony and I didn't want to spend a fortune on flash equipment. The i40 fit the bill. The flash feels like quality and performs well. It is a perfect fit for the small A6000 that has a odd little flash and the TTL works with the camera.

The nissin I 40 appears to be well made and is just right and it is moderately priced for flashes also.

I bought this flash for my Panasonic LX100. Now I also use it with a Panasonic GX-7. Mirrorless cameras have been smaller than DSLR cameras, but the accessories haven't always followed. The i40 is smaller than I would have thought possible for a flash using 4 AA batteries. People who see it can't believe you can get 4 AA's in it. It's a lot of power in a small package, and it balances far better than the Metz 44 that I used with a Samsung NX20. I'm giving it 5 stars even though the paint on the control wheels have come off, a problem that has been reported before. I hope camera manufacturers take note of what Nissin has done here. Mirrorless does not need a monster flash that dwarfs the camera.

What I like: Compact, nice manual controls, works well with X-T1. I don't think movie mode LEDs are very bright, but I don't do video. Still trying to get Off-camera Firing to work well - I just purchased some wireless triggers to see if the camera will properly trigger the flash off of the camera in some mode.
