The first thing I noticed about this lens is that it is substantial. The leatherette packaging seemed almost necessary to protect this heavy lens from being rocked around too much during shipping. I was surprised by its heft. Not trusting my own vision, I rarely shoot with manual focus. However, with my Sony A7Riii having focus peaking, I thought taking a chance on this 50mm f/0.95 was worth the gamble. I just did a fashion shoot with mixed results. When the focusing worked, the images came out great. Very smooth skin tones and overall tonality. When the lens focused well, it was sufficiently crisp. While shooting between f/0.95 and f/5.6, I suspected I would only see few focus peaking highlights, with an aim towards the eyes. However, at each of these apertures, the entire model, plus a wide range of foreground and background objects, were highlighted. When I reviewed at my computer, I received mixed results in proper focusing. I have not had these issues with my Sony or other compatible lenses, so I suspect this is likely a lens-side communication problem. It causes a terrible guessing game, and thus decreased confidence, during shooting.

pictures you will get with this lens is amazing, especially for portrait, although it is a little tricky to manual focus it. It took me a little while to get used to it. I have not tried for night skies yet.
