Just received my Nikon D2xs from Adorama and it was rated as "Good". I don't know who rates their cameras but this one was excellant....everything worked and no scratches no dings no brassing....absolutely nothing wrong except you could see it was a little dull colored from handling and use. Have several lenses that I have collected for my older D100 and everything works well. Would I buy from ADORAMA again? ABSOLUTELY!! I have always used Nikons from film to the digital and this is a workhorse.

This camera has been with me for years. the ISO limitations does not bother me. With the 300mm F/4 the 180mm f2.8, the 135mm f/2 dc and the 85mm f/1.4d this camera wins every single time! The new G lenses works well with this sensor as well. Solid and built like a tank this camera can go on any shoot and perform flawlessly! My advice don't leave it behind. Don't underestimate it! Make pictures with it!

My last camera was the N80/F80 35mm. I didn't jump on the digital band wagon and almost gave up photography due to equipment cost. Then a friend offered to sell me his D2X with only 10,000 or so actuations on it. I bought it, at what I considered a ridiculously low price. I thought,"Well, it's an old outdated camera. Good to learn digital on." I came to realize that old is not necessarily outdated. I love this unit so much I will probably keep it a long time. at least until I can afford a D3 variant. This thing is built like a tank. You know you have a tough durable piece of hardware in your hand. And the quality images it produces, WOW! I was warned not to get a crop sensor by all the armchair know it alls. I was told that the D2Xt was outdated technology. Only if high ISO is a priority. I shot film right to the point I got this rig in Jan of 2016, so high ISO was 400 to me and being primarily a landscape shooter, it is perfect. So, of cost is standing in your way and you want the durability of a pro body, this is an excellent choice. I have since obtained a D7100 for motorsports and travel, but the D2X is still used a lot and will be retained for a long time. Probably keep it forever or might just gift it to a you folk that can't afford one in the future.

I was debating on buying the D7000 or a used D2x. After researching both cameras online, I went with the D2x. My main focus is Nature, Landscape and Fine Art Photography. I rarely shoot above ISO 400 in these applications so high ISO was not an issue in the selection. What I wanted was a durable and weatherproof body, I got that and more. My D2x came in mint condition and had only 6700 shutter acuations on it. The controls are very similar to my old D1x and the picture output is simply amazing for a 12 megapixel camera. It almost rivals the output of my 24 megapixel D5200. Nikon did an good job getting as much resolution possible out of the sensor. Did I mention the colors, "Outstanding". There are no gimmicks to this camera, it is packed with professional muscle only. Don't let old technology sway you from buying this great camera. No regrets or disappointment, only awe on what it is capable of!

I was looking for a digital camera that would accept and work with all the great Nikon lenses I've accumulated over the past 40 years. I've used film in environments ranging from 120 deg. F and 95% humidity to -30 deg. F in, sandstorms, monsoons and from sea-level to 17,000 ft. I wanted a digital that would hold up like my F3 and F4 did. After reading hour upon hour of reviews and tests I boiled it down to what do I need vs. features that while very neat I may never use. Very well built and solid, this was Nikon's Flagship professional digital in '05. Size and lay out is similar to my F4 while weight is slightly less. Pros: it will accept and work with all my lenses. The menu is easy to read and controls are laid out in a manner that makes setting up quick even without a manual. I did download the manual on line and brought it up for reference just in case. It feels familiar, so no culture shock, the controls are where my fingers think they should be without having to look for them. Weight to me is a plus; I found I have more stability hand held with a longer lens if the camera is heavier. It balances well with the big zooms like the 80-200 f2.8. With Nikon's firmware version 2, Hi-2 on the iso setting allows up to 3200 plenty fast enough for my needs. Cons: Uses a more expensive compact flash card instead of an HDSC card. DX format so I have go to a shorter lens to get the same coverage as a 35mm on the F4, but a 300mm now has a 400mm + magnification so it's a trade off. When using older non-CPU lenses you need to set the minimum focal length and max aperture in the menu before they will be able to auto focus. Weight to some would be a con but take a hint from bass players get a wide comfortable strap, and sling it like a bandoleer, it lessens the strain on the neck, keeps the camera out of the way but close enough for easy access Overall I'm happy with my decision. I feel if I can't get a decent photo with 12mp, 16mp or more isn't going to help. Update 3 July 2013 Brief update. The more I use it the better I like it, after around 200 shots I'm beginning to get the hang of it and its idiosyncrasies. I found one older 28-70mm f2.8 lens that is always super sharp on my F4, has soft focus in AF mode on the D2x, it is sharp in manual though. This is the only lens I have that has this trouble so may be an anomaly in my particular lens. Not a big deal because I purchased a new 17-70MM f2.8 which is quieter, focuses faster and is sharp at all focal lengths. So problem solved. Note: I have yet to find a zoom in any focal length as sharp as a dedicated single focal length lens. With longer lenses I found AF mode to be very important. Either single area or group dynamic works best to eliminate "hunt" in low light or for subjects in "busy" areas such as birds in leafy trees. In dynamic area with things like slightly moving leaves it will try to correct focus on everything, not a good combination.

I owned 3 D1Xs last year or so. The reason I owned three, I LOVED the quality of the images came out of them. Very VERY sharp, vivid images, and I paid only $100 per camera in mint condition. However, battery life of D1X is the ONLY reason I sold them and upgraded to one D2X (for the price). D2X's battery life is superior... I mean, HUGE difference between the two models. D2X obviously a superior model overall, but I still think image quality was better in D1X cameras, even with %50 less mpix resolution. I am using D2X about 6 months now, from portrait work to macro photos... I am extremely happy with the results, I think I am just addicted to DX series Pro cameras, next one should be the D3X (way WAY far in the future due to its price right now). I am posting one sample taken with a Nikkor F1.8 50mm lens... which I use a lot for all kinds of photography. You should get D2X if you are into pro photography, and don't want to break your bank account. It does EVERYTHING that you need, and much more if you have experience using other tools with it ;)

The Nikon D2x camera was the first serious digital camera I ever bought. Nikon waited a long time to produce the D2x and it was at the time and still is, an outstanding product. I also own the D3 and the D300s. I still love my D2x. I must say that, although the technical features of the most recent Nikon cameras are appealing and useful, the D2x has one quality that surpasses every other camera I have worked with: its color accuracy. Coming from the big slide 4x5 format world, I have found my D2x to render far superior true color images than its successor the D3 which has an annoying yellowish-magenta cast which has to be corrected in camera or with appropriate software. Regarding sharpness, the D2x in RAW mode can deliver extremely sharp images if tweaked a bit in post production and I mean it rivals my D3 without a doubt. I love the D2x ergonomics, the big grip, its small size which makes it perfect to take out, its speed to trigger the snapping shutter which gives you a very comforting feeling of action, all its buttons which are located exactly where your fingers are and the color rendition of its sensor. I would say that, if used in a controlled situation, like a studio with well set light strobes to shoot a portrait for instance, it will pretty much give you the color accuracy of a Kodak color reversal film for skin tones. This is a big statement, but I believe the D2x can live up to it.

I bought my D2X 2 weeks before the D2xs was introduced, I still use it everyday as semi professional photographer. It has never skipped a beat, I love this camera, there is nothing I can say negative about this camera...except its not a D3s or D4...I have 160,000 clicks on my baby and it is perfect. I have literally shot just about everything with this camera, the first week I owned it, I shot a forest fire 1 mile from my home and a friends wedding the same week, with no time to learn the camera, it performed flawlessly. The quality of photo, resolution, ergonomics, color, speed...all is perfect for a 6-7 year old model. I can not afford a newer version of Nikon’s flagship at this point in time, when I can afford one , you can bet my D2X will forever be by my side as well, as is my other 6 Nikon cameras, beginning with the N65. I am a NIKON Freak, I am not afraid to admit that, and honestly, no amount of persuasion or monetary gain will ever change my Nikon love...

My D2x is my all around camera and it gives my magnificent sharp detail, vibrant colors, and the right exposure. The experience using this camera is the best thing I can say in owning a D2x, the way the buttons and levers are placed, the great grip which is love the most, and also the power house design gives a great pride using it until today. I also own a D300s however my D2x will be here to stay as my main camera.

I have been using two D2X bodies on an almost daily basis since 2006. I often work under extreme conditions: vibration, dust and heat. Each body has around 150.000 shots and both are still going strong. This is testimony to the superb built quality of Nikon's professional camera line-up.

i own two D2x bodies and combined with a range of Nikon AF-D and AF-S lend there's nothing other than a D3 to drag me away. Resoltion is superb, performance from the tough body with weathersealing is awesome (I'm shooting outdoors 24/7 for angling publications) , and the control and menu system I simple and based around common sense rather than fancy gizmos. High ISO use I good up to 800 and the HI settings have their use, although compared against more modern bodies they aren't t that relevant. AF is fast and precise thanks to 11 AF points. Exposure system I reliable, especially with an SB800 attached. I bought mine used for £650 each and o have to say they're them most user-friendly cameras I've owned in the digital age - before I had the excellent D200 ANC before that, the appaling Canon 10D and the much improved 30D. a brilliant used buy these days

I purchased this camera used and was skeptical as to the condition it would be in. When I received the camera, the only thing that looked used was the box. I have been using a D200 for the past couple of years and I am very pleased with it, but the image quality of the D2X far surpasses that of the D200. I tested the D2x out at a concert using an 70-200 F2.8 lens. I was hand holding the lens and using both horizontal and vertical shutter releases. The exposure meter was accurate, focusing dead-on, colors very vibrant, and the noise non-existing in the shadow areas. I have shot artistic, portraits, and sports images with this camera and have been highly pleased with the results it has produced. If you have an opportunity (and the cash) to purchase the D2X, you will not be disappointed.

I've used this camera in the studio and I was really impressed with the over all quality. Not only was I impressed, but more importantly, so was my client. The focusing was so fast and accurate that during the viewing of the files we could see my clients contact lenses from the head and shoulders poses we took in the studio. I have not used it for a wedding as of yet, but I will this weekend. I am looking forward to putting her (D2X) through the test. I'm sure she'll do just fine. After all. . . . it's a NIKON!!!

This camera is a Dream. I have used it to shoot Senior Portraits & Weddings with great success. This camera does what is supposed to do, make your job as a Photographer easier. This allows for me to be creative & not worry about settings. Set the camera once & let your creative juices flow. The focus is fast & dead on accurate. The 11 focus areas give you the focus where you need it. The colors are vibrant and flesh tones are very good. (Did a camera shootout for Pro level cameras at Shoot Smarter University & the D2X scored in the top five for flesh tones). The 12 megapixel allows for huge enlargements. I have made large prints that just looked WOW!! When used with on camera flash, the results are great. No washed out faces. In the studio it works great. From Portraiture to Macro it performs great. This is the best Camera I have ever had. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I use the camera for portraits and travel photography. With the ablity to pre-set the camera for various set ups it is easy to go from one lighting or shooting situation quickly. The SB-800 flash system is great and makes flsah photography easy.

Nikon D2X is the most creatively based professional camera on the market. With the Color modes you can create stunning film like images that sing when combined with it's clean processing engine. The ability to create double exposures and overlays puts the fun and excitment at the moment of capture.

I was involved in an auto accident with airbags deployed. The D2x flew around the auto hitting everything in site. The body and lens had absolutely no marks. However, there was a rattle on the inside of the D2x. Sent to Nikon and they repaired and checked all functions. On return, the D2x and lens worked flawlessly. The color accuracy is fantastic. The resolution is phenomenal. The D2x has improved my photos significantly over my old D100. If you can find a new or used D2x, get it. The firmware upgrade from Nikon makes it practcally identical to the D2Xs.

The focus speed in low light (reception of weddings)is amazing, I don't have to think about it, just shoot. Flash Sync with multiple flash is at times very critical. Also with the flash system, make a pre-flash so the camera knows the exposure with flash then all the photos you take are exposed with no annoying additional preflash that causes people to blink. Battery has long life, I can go thru an entire 9 hour wedding and not change batteries

Low light use is not optimal, but not bad. This is really the only place where I could ask for improvement in this camera. I personally like the 1.5 crop as it maximizes telephotos for sports and uses the sweet spot of the lens for less vignetting.

The best digital camera we have ever used. It has virtually "changed our lives" with its great features and high image quality.Although we have used the D-200 also and like that camera too, this one is the ultimate. We would like to buy a couple more of them (we are a busy studio)!
