I have been using Canon for almost 20 years. I needed to update my Canon 70-200 2.8. I foolishly bought this lens without requesting a loaner not thinking that a major change in rapid focus change (e.g. moving quickly from one player to another in hockey for example) would prove impossible with this lens and keep it in my bag. The lens needs several twists to arrive at the same place that one twist did in my old 70-200. It is to slow. Only after months was I told a newer 70-200 was out correcting the problem.

I love this lens. Its crisp photos of sporting events capture the action perfectly. It pairs well with my Canon 1Dx.

I have been wanting one of these lenes for a long time, and when I finally was able to get one, IT IS AWESOME!! The quality of photos I get with this lenes is unmatched! The reach of the zoom with the fixed f2.8 makes getting those far shots rich and full of color. The autofocus is quick and quite which makes action shots extremely easy to get. This lens also performs great for some portraits if you have enough space to frame everything or everyone. My one and only complaint with this lens is the same you will hear from everyone else...this lens is HEAVY!! A tri-pod, mono-pod, or something to brace yourself with is almost a must when using this lens for a long amount of time. If you won't mind the weight, then this is a great lens to pick up for your kit!

Use this lens (non IS version) for every concert I photograph. Amazing glass. Unsure why it is categorized as a "fixed focal length" lens when it is a 70mm - 200mm zoom....??

I really pretty happy with the lens, I had one the same for about 12 years then the zoom went out, everything got grainy. So far the only problem I been having is it seems to blur out some times. Maybe its just me, lol Hope this one last as long as my first one.

I've owned this 70 200 2.8 III for several years and am pleased with how it performed on my older Canon R and now my R5 that I've owned for about 18 months. This lens does an excellent job for event and fairly close wildlife photos. It also performs well with my 1.4X and 2X tele converters. The lens is sharp, focuses fast and accurately and has lower flare than expected. As others have noted, this lens is all metal and relatively heavy. To me the extra weight is worth the superior build quality. Also the lens does not pump and accordingly does not suck in dust.

This is my second 70-200 f/2.8 lens. There are added features on this lens for Image stabilization and distance control. Including instructions on what to use when would be extremely helpful. I was attempting to photograph rodeo contestants. I struggled to lock on to the subject and remain while the contestant and animal he/she was riding keep that focus.

I own the Mk 3 version of this lens (current model) and use it with my Canon R5. The biggest takeaway is that the lens is extremely sharp across the entire focal length range. It focuses fast and is capable of capturing clear images of birds in flight while maintaining focus on the bird'e eyes hand held via the IS. Unlike the current RF version, this model can use 1.4x and 2x extenders. As the lens internally zooms and focuses, there is far less risk of the lens sucking in dust. The negative is that the lens is pretty large and heavy, similar to the pro model lenses of Sony and Nikon. The newer RF lens is easier to tote around and lighter. For me, the RF version was a non starter because it doesn't accept extenders. Both the RF and EF lenses work great on the R5 and allow deep cropping in post processing. The RF tradeoff is essentially one of less weight and size vs build quality and accepting extenders.

I have purchased each version of the 70-200mm, the third version is by far the fastest AF system. This lens is also lighter than its previous versions. I am satisfied with this purchase and would recommend everyone to buy the 70-200mm III !!!
The greatest thing since sliced bread.
By Brandcreative L.
This lens gives such an incredible range of situational uses. From having a beautiful portrait with a shallow depth of field to getting use of a full 200mm telephoto reach. Coupled with the 2x extender it can really do amazing things. I think the biggest thing that shocked me was how incredible this lens is in low light. Shooting with a Canon 1DX MKIII.
A professional standard refined. The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM delivers outstanding performance and optics to help you reach new heights in high-level creative imaging. The lens's constant f/2.8 maximum aperture enables fast shutter speeds and beautiful background blur across its zoom range. To further enhance clarity, it adds Canon's Air Sphere Coating (ASC), which combines with updated Super Spectra Coatings to significantly reduce lens flare and ghosting. A superlative lens remastered for improved performance even in diverse light, the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM is a worthy partner to help create your upcoming masterpiece.
Let's start off with the lens whose predecessor I personally have in my arsenal: the new 70-200mm f/2.8L. The Series II was already my go-to lens for dark wedding ceremonies, studio headshots, and for getting a beautifully compressed wedding portrait. Now, Canon has gone ahead and added Air Sphere Coating (ASC) to help cut down on sun flare and ghosting, particularly in backlit situations like the ones below. Pair that with the already wildly necessary image stabilization and crystal clear image quality and this lens is sure to be a staple in your camera bag.....

The EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens features an incredibly bright zoom with an f/2.8 maximum aperture that stays constant throughout the zoom range. The EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM's bright image even enhances AF performance, sending more light to more areas of the AF sensor to help facilitate a faster, more accurate focus. Combined with its 8-blade circular aperture, the EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens is engineered to capture dramatic images with gorgeous background blur.
The addition of Canon's Air Sphere Coating (ASC) enhances the EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens's ability to suppress reflections. ASC helps combat aberrations regardless of focal length or the angle of light. This helps provide cleaner photographs with fewer distracting reflective effects in the image.
To help maintain a clean lens, even after multiple lens changes in sub-optimal conditions, the EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens has a specially designed fluorine coating on its front and rear surfaces. This fluorine coating helps prevent dust, water, oil and other surface residue like fingerprints from sticking to the lens, which facilitates quick and easy wiping, without the use of solvents.
For consistently sharp results, the EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens features an Optical Image Stabilizer system that provides shake reduction for up to 3.5 shutter speed stops*. This helps provide reliable handheld performance and clear image detail in low-light situations or at lower ISOs.
* Based on CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association) standards. Testing performed at a focal length of 200mm using the EOS-1D X Mark II digital SLR camera.
With a minimum focusing distance of approx. 3.9 ft./1.2m, the EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens helps enable operation close to the subject, perfect for intimate portraits, headshots and detail work. For instance, at its minimum focus distance and zoomed to 200mm, the maximum magnification is 0.21x, meaning you can fill the frame with a subject 6.7 x 4.5 in. (approx. 170 x 114mm) in size.
The EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens offers complete manual focusing, even when AF is engaged, with a simple twist of the lens's focus ring. Additionally, full-time manual focus means you can achieve and maintain focus manually, which can be especially handy when shooting video or composing still images on an SLR camera's screen.
Befitting Canon's L-series lenses, the EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens features a superb optical formula for high-resolution, high-contrast images throughout its zoom range. It consists of 23 lens elements in 19 groups, including one fluorite and five Ultra Dispersion (UD) elements. The result? A lens of great clarity and fidelity that helps render sharp, beautifully detailed images with minimal distortion
