A powerful zoom lens that has the ability of stopping down to f/32. Sharpness, from near to VERY far, is assured with this very capable lens. The zoom range is remarkably excellent while the transition from 70 to 300mm is easy, swift and smooth with the twist of your wrist. The seamless motion is appreciated while using the videography of Nikon's DSLR's.

I?ve used this lens for several years on a d750 and now on a z6 with the adapter. For the price, it can?t be beat. It can be a little soft in the edges but the VR works great the zoom is smooth and it?s light weight makes it a good walk-around lens.

Great for wildlife and travel. Purchased it a while back after recommended by the Angry Photographer as a "must have" lens. Boy, was he right. Can be used hand-held. The attached jpg from the raw file was at 300mm and f5.6. No post-processing.

This is an outstanding lens--it has no business being as good at it is, for its specs and price. I almost exclusively shoot at the full 300mm and use it mostly for birds, and I have to say the results after cropping are on par with my 200-500 f/5.6 (which is almost 3X the price, huge, and weighs nearly 6 lbs). I'm considering selling my 200-500 because it provides such a minimal advantage over this in terms of performance, and I find myself always reaching for this lens because its so much smaller and lighter. When I'm hiking or walking around looking for birds, this is a far easier lens to use.

Glass of lens isn't high quality, but zoom range is nice, recommended for beginner or kit lens.

This versatile lens is perfect for when you want to travel light. The VR allows you to hand hold for action shots such as birds in flight.

I love this lens. This is a great portrait lens for those times you are sitting in a party and want to take discrete candid face shots. I have also used it many times for landscape and nature work. This is probably the second most used lens in my pack.

Excellent Lens. Lens is very precise , smooth acting and of premium clarity and resolution . The new VR capability is beyond reproach and helps dramatically with stabilizing your picture composition. I would recommend this lens to most anyone for your Photography Needs. You won't be disappointed.

I bought this lens so that I could capture birds while travelling. I haven't used it yet for that purpose, but in testing it, I believe I made a right choice with this one. The photos I've taken while testing are sharp and color is vibrant. I've not noticed barrel or pincushion distortion, but I'm not one to look for it either. Though I looked at the dimensions of the lens before buying it, it's size surprised me. It's a big one. I'm not totally accustomed to moving around with a lens this size so I've been babying it a little so as not to bump into walls, etc. I'm also not accustomed to the VR which is supposed to be turned off before removing the lens from the camera, and also before turning the camera off. Overall, I'm very pleased. Even better, I got it in just a few days from Adorama, rivaling even Amazon in shipping speed. With Adorama though, I'm sure that I'm working with an approved Nikon retailer. Is it ok to say WOOHOO!!!

Adorama was very kind to help me choosing the right lens after my initial purchase that I chose the wrong one. Their chat specialist helped me to go step by step with details of my camera, and type of photos I was interested in to capture and nailed it to right lens. Besides exchanging the lens was flawless and easy. Thank you

I was pleasantly surprised that this lens was sharp at 300mm. Most inexpensive zooms are soft at the top end. The build quality is very good, VR dose a nice job as well. Again this is a good lens for the money.

Got it together with a D7000. After a few years of I use, it's clear the lens is good enough, especially at shorter focal lengths and stopped down a bit. At the long end resolution is lacking, and really needs to be shot at f/8. Because of this higher ISOs are often needed when not in bright light. Overall it's portable and affordable, but not the right choice for low light or high resolution work.

Good relatively inexpensive lens. Quick to focus. Good pics if the light is good

Focus is really soft. At first I thought it was either me or that I didn't set a high enough shutter speed to prevent shaking, but was using VR. Put camera on tripod and tried again but images were still very soft. I purchased a Sigma 17-50 at the same time & images are nice & sharp.

For a beginner, the lens is simple to use. The pictures are sharp. I was concerned with blur, but this didn't happen. While it isn't hugely telephotic , it is a great place to begin.

I have this mated to a Nikon D750 that I just purchased. I have tried the lense out on birds so far. The color and accuracy are fantastic. The only think I have noticed is that it seems to take a little longer to focus than my sigma 150-500. That could be my inexperience with the camera and lense combo.

Have had this lens for a few wks & have used it mostly for action cross country meets. Pics have been crisp & brightly colored. The 300mm range allows close-ups at any stage of the race without constant movement on my part. Use it on a Nikon D610 which means the possibilities are limitless. At this price I could not ask for more. No real negatives although pics shot at close to the 300mm max might be a bit less sharp, but that is getting picky at a x-country meet. Plenty of early morning light so have not had an issue here.

I bought this telephoto lens for a trip to Alaska. The attached picture is of a wild Alaskan Bald Eagle flying over a small boat. We were in 15-20 mile per hour winds so I was perched on the side of the boat with an arm wrapped around a pole to keep from falling overboard. The picture was taken with my Nikon D7100 at fl 145 mm, 1/6400 sec, f 5.6, ISO 6400 in aperture mode. The only processing was the crop. The full picture captured the entire wingspan and body except the tip of one feather. Being able to see not only the eye but also the nostril, texture in the neck, defects and details in the tail feathers, and wrinkles in the talons impressed me. This was just one of over a hundred sharp pictures of wildlife. The 70-300 VR and a 20 mm f2.8 wide angle made a great combination for me on this trip.

Amateur photographer shooting, wildlife, landscape, nature, etc. Broke my 55-300 DX lense and decided to replace it with this lens. It is heavier, but I love that it does auto focus so fast and will auto focus on manual. Also is supposed to be more durable which I think I need!

Excellent Lens!
By GeoDan
I use this lens mainly for wildlife and landscapes. It is super-sharp and works great for both as long as the subjects are large and still as the AF tends to hunt. I have missed several shots (especially hummingbirds at a feeder and small birds in trees) because the auto focus would select the wrong depth of field. This can be quickly overridden by switching to manual focus (very easy to do) but sometimes not quick enough. If you need to go MF, just remember to also switch off the AF-mode b...
