A great m4/3rds zoom lens in a small package. Took this with me on a trip to Austria and South Korea and was very pleased with the images produced with it. The small statue of this lens also doesn?t scream ?professional? when shooting in maybe more sensitive areas as some other zooms would. I also really like how Olympus has a manual clutch that is easy to engage when wanted.

The Olympus M.ZUIKO 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro lens is always on my camera body. I shoot more pictures with this lens than any other lens in my kit. This lens is effectively a 24mm to 80mm zoom (in full frame); slightly wide angle to a short telephoto. In addition it will focus to about 20cm or 8 inches, so you can get very close to the subject and it focuses fast. The 2.8 maximum aperture also provides excellent bokeh. It's perfect for most of the photographs I make. If someone was going to buy an Olympus Micro-Four-Thirds camera body, I would recommending getting this as your first lens. Don't leave home without it!

I tested this lens, and it was noticeably sharper at the edges then similar lenses. Well built, great vibration reduction, and more. Lovely bit of kit. Perfect daily driver.

Loving this lens so far. A bit bulkier than the prime lenses I would normally carry but worth it to not need to swap all the time. Great quality and solid.

This is my go-to lens for Alaska and Caribbean scenery as well as general photography. The weatherproofing has survived many days in the rain and cold. Image stabilization produces reliable exposures even from moving trains and boats. This lens works well with my Olympus OMD EM-1 MKIII and MX1 cameras. I strongly recommend this lens for general photography that does not require a telephoto lens.

Stunning image quality. Easy to carry everywhere everyday, extremely versatile piece of equipment, and at f2.8 very sharp and bright images. Very solid build, quality, weather sealed manual focus clutch, very fast auto focus when needed +++ I am happy I purchased this one.

Excellent pro-level features! A bit heavy and unwieldy on Olympus Pen bodies, but amazing optics! EM1 bodies better ergonomics.

Nice lens, fast but short zoom range makes it usefulness limited for my purposes. It's almost as if Olympus made it 12-40 F2.8 deliberately so you want/need to buy the 40-150 F2.8. I still have a week or so to return and I might exchange for the 12-100 F4 which might the right compromise...I needed more zoom for my daughter's wedding next month.

This lens matches if not exceeds performance of the full frame DSLR lenses in this range that I have used. Combined with the incredible image stabilization features of my Olympus camera - this is a winning combination for most of my street and landscape photography needs.

Rather than opt for a fixed focal length lens such as the 17mm or 25mm as my standard or prime lens, I picked the 12-40 f2.8 PRO as my first lens for my EM-1. I have never regretted the decision. With the weather sealing against rain and dust, I don't have to be so concerned about keeping the lens (nor the EM-1) covered when I'm out in the rain. The EM-1's image stabilization makes low-light / slow shutter speeds not a concern so the f2.8 maximum aperture is plenty bright enough. Image quality is superb. Great job Olympus!

This lens is very light and small, maintains sharpness with low aperture throughout the range, is quite fast and sharp at night with live bulb/live time etc, is said to be weather-proof (but I have yet to test this out), allows easy switching between AF and MF via the clutch or the L-Fn (when customized to MF), works well with extension tubes and yields great results with focus bracketing/stacking.

A super landscape lens, light, easy to manage and makes a nice walk around lens as well.

Really outstanding lens. Sharp, plenty fast enough, It's probably my largest micro 4/3 lens, but not so big as to be a burden carrying it around all day. If I would change anything, I'd want just another 10mm on the ling end, but that would make it bigger or slower. Highly recommended.

Super good optics - sharp, good contrast & accurate color rendition. Rugged and reliable. Super nice switch- clutch driven - to go between AF & MF. Nice construction, have put it's through its paces since 2014. On assignment in Central America, this lens had no problem in the morning as we descended into the cooler, more humid jungle interior from the jungle road which was slightly warmer and less humid but a colleague's Canon L lens would consistently fog. I am a Canon user as well - I transitioned in 2005 from film to Canon digital & have owned some of the highest end Canon DSLR bodies and lenses. To clarify, I have nothing against the Canon brand and I am a member of Canon Professional Services at the highest tier. This M. Zuiko 12 to 40mm rocks! Period. It also has a longer reach than the Lumix 12 to 35mm. I have used this Olympus lens on the Lumix GH3 as well as the GH4.

Five Star product. This Lens is just incredible. I own Canon L Lenses and I don't see a quality to be as good as this Zuiko Lens. The design of this Lens is outstanding, where other manufacturers put one, maybe two or thee high quality Glass in their design, this Zuiko Lens is design mostly out high grade glass. And this shows on the pictures. The pictures are sharp, well saturated. One of the best I took so far. I love everything about it. Maybe it is more heavy than standard Lenses, but it's ok for what you get.

I have not had this 12-40 pro for long now, but I can say I love it so far. Only complaint is the weight. Sharpest lens I have ever shot with! You can feel the quality just holding it. Start clicking the shutter and you will see the quality.

The lens is amazing, I can't think of one flaw. Pictures are tack sharp. A total must-have. The range is super flexible and with its 2.8 aperture you can even use this indoors with no issues.

I bought this lens for the new OM-D E-M1 Mark III. I am upgrading from my old E5 where I was using 7 different four thirds lenses. This lens is a must have for me moving to the lighter, more compact OM-D system. Easily replaces 3 of my old four thirds lenses to light the load. Quality build and the performance is outstanding. The 12-40mm F2.8 Pro lens truly allows me to break free with Olympus!

This lens is like a bag of primes and the best wide-normal zoom I ever owned across three different systems. Build quality and IQ is superb with a great manual focus clutch ring. 0.3x close focus magnification is extremely useful and one of the things that sets many Oly Pro lenses apart from other brands. Mates perfectly on a EM1 body. Highly recommended

Wow. That?s all I can say. First off, I have to admit that I tend to be frugal when buying camera gear. I?ve also found that I can be penny wise, pound foolish when buying camera gear. So I?ve picked up many primes between the 12-40 range with none of them being in the ?Pro? category. I?ve been satisfied with the results of my Oly 17mm 2.8, 25mm, 40mm, 19mm and 30mm Sigma and so on. I stumbled on a great deal for this lens, and while it was the most I?ve spent on a m4/3?s lens, I had high hopes for it. Suffice it to say, I was not let down at all. This thing takes the m4/3?s format to another level. My shots look so good. The focus is quiet and fast. Given that it?s mostly metal, the feel when attached to my E-M1 is perfect. Since the 2nd day of shooting, I?ve listed all of my primes that are covered by this focal length for sale since I see no reason to ever use them again. Although, I do love my 40mm and I?ll hold onto that one for a bit. Otherwise, buy this lens and don?t look back. I spent the same amount of money buying primes that fall within the range of this lens and now I see the light, so to speak.

I recently made the switch to Olympus and purchased an OM-D E-M1X along with three M.Zuiko PRO f/2.8 zoom lenses. I bounced back and forth between the PRO 12-40 mm f/2.8 and the PRO 12.-100 f/4. I eventually went with the 12-40 f/2.8 to gain the additional stop of light. It was a great decision. This is a fantastic lens... sharp... fast focusing... and versatile. The extra stop of light comes in very handy. When compared to the 12-100 mm f/4... I only gave up 1/2 stop of IBIS performance which is no issue for me.

The hidden advantage of the M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 lens is its completely acceptable infrared (IR) capability, especially when combined with a suitable Olympus camera body. Actual performance using a customary IR filter shows no "hotspot," which is a problem actually with other M.Zuiko lenses, and no substantial loss of contrast or ghosting, which also is often encountered. Unfortunately, the usual IR lens database (often cited online) is erroneous concerning several Olympus lenses and also fails to list this particular lens. Two online tutorials both demonstrate the IR capability of the M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 lens but do not point out that not all M.Zuiko lenses are IR-capable.

How many "kit lenses" are f/2.8 and have splashproof construction? this was my first lens purchased with the E-M1 MK I a few years back, and its still going strong after many adventures. All-in-one travel lenses are great, but if you need a faster lens, sacrifice some zoom and get this gem.

Best gift I ever received. I use this lens 99% of the time, it's sharp, solid feel, matches the EM5 and the EM1 for weight. All around best buy.

What a great zoom lens!

This PRO lens from Olympus is weatherproof, razor sharp even wide open, beautifully built, gives gorgeous color rendition and is the perfect fit for the new OMD-EM1 body. I use it in conjunction with the 45mm f1.8 (portraits are great) and the 75mm f1.8 (phenomenal mid-tele). The 35mm equivalent is 24-80 on this lens but it has no weaknesses anywhere in its focal range from f2.8 to f8. I used to be a big-body 35mm APSC and full-frame shooter but my bag would weigh upwards of 45 lbs with bo...

Perfect All-Around Lens
By StephenP
This is my go-to lens. It spends time on my E-M1 the most and it’s what I grab most often. From hiking trials or going on a motorcycle trip. If I had to pick only one lens to have with me, this would be it. Very rugged and waterproof. It lived in my tank bag with n my motorcycle for 3000 miles of road riding. It was used for both stills and video work.
