First have to say the quality of the 'used' product is exceptional, all extras included. Love the 2.8

Great lens for low light purposes. Very low depth of field, but this is to be expected with a 2.8 lens- just shoot at f/4 or smallerNot the best lens for macro, but buy some extension or close up filters and you are good to go. Extremely fast focus. Great for sports.

Nice light weight lens. Fast focus. At f2.8 it is not sharp and has almost no depth of field. At the optimal f5.6 it works fine.

This is a fantastic lens and a great range for the 1.5 crop. Sharp even wide open. Given the choice between speed & vibration reduction I'll choose speed every time. If the subject moves- VR isn't going to help. A well built lens I expect to be using as long as my Nikkor 17-55.

A solid, well-built performer. Recently used it covering a folk festival in an historic theater. Brought out solid details at sufficient shutter speeds to minimize blur, thanks to f2.8. IS or VR is useful, but if there is no lens speed to let you use a high enough shutter speed and ISO to minimize subject movement, you just get images that have clear backgrounds, but blurred subject movement.

Specially designed for digital SLR cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, and fully compatible with all Nikon Digital SLR cameras including the D40 and D40X, this large aperture F2.8 lens has a compact and lightweight construction of 76.3mm (3.0") in diameter, 132.6mm (5.2") in length and weighing just 780g (27.5oz) (Nikon Mount).
The incorporation of the very latest optical technology gives optimum lens performance providing excellent correction for flare, ghosting and all types of aberrations. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. Four SLD..Special Low Dispersion..glass elements are used for utmost correction of chromatic aberrations.
The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) system ensures quiet and high-speed auto focusing with full time manual focus override.
The addition of the 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters (optional extras) produces a 70-210mm F4 AF tele-zoom lens and a 100-300mm F5.6 AF ultra-telephoto zoom lens respectively.
