Works beautifully! I use it on my canon RP, with the adapter of course, with no issues at all.

I'm an amateur photographer but this lens has stepped up the quality of my photos. Plus it's pretty cheap compared to others.

Okay first said my husband bought this for me because he thought he was getting a great deal on the $2900 version which I also now own. This lens is amazing!! The $2900 verion never gets into my kit most days. Perfect for portraits. It's sharp but "People sharp" has an amazing look to headshots.

Love this lens! I switch between this and my 50mm 1.8. I can?t afford the 1.4 but for the shoots I currently do, it works for my budget

Fantastic lens. I was worried about not having image stabilization but it has not been a problem - I just keep my shutter speed a touch higher than I need.

I really love this lens and the bokeh. After using a 50 for almost 10 years it?s an adjustment remembering to stand further away than I?m used to. This is a high quality lens with great results! Overall I?m glad I switched from the 50, it?s more versatile.

Best value portrait lens for the cost. This creates such a lovely blurred background and works very well in low light.

As close as can be to the ideal portrait lens. Fast, nice bokeh, and not terribly expensive.

My Main Thang!

My first primes lens was the nifty fifty (50mm 1.8 . I absolutely loved it. My next lenses had to be the 85mm 1.8 lens. I read the reviews and decided to get it. Wow! This lens is so sharp and focuses very accurate and quickly. Now given... my 50mm 1.8 is very impressive, but this 85mm 1.8 takes the cake for me. My portraits have a smooth and creamy back ground at 1.8 and it's tack sharp. This lens was well worth the investment for me. Thanks Canon ...

If you have a Canon DSLR with an accurate autofocus system, I recommend this as your first prime lens. Even before you by a 50mm prime. It is delightful to use at large apertures to create lovely bokeh. It really excels as a portrait/people lens. The focus system is lighting fast, quiet and very accurate. It spends a lot of time on my 5D Mark 3. You don't always need big, heavy "L" lenses to do the job. This little lens frees you to be more creative and it is just plain fun to use. You may ...

What makes a good telephoto lens? Well, sure, good clarity is a start. What the CANON EF 85MM f/1.8 (USM) Lens offers in addition to that is a stunning amount of precision, speed and compression, even when handling a range of different subjects in any kind of lighting conditions.
Want a telephoto lens that will change the way you approach telephoto lenses? Then your journey starts here.
For clarity, precision and outright speed, there’s no beating a prime lens. You already knew that, of course. So let’s get specific about which prime lenses offer stunning, high-contrast images time and again: the CANON EF 85MM f/1.8 (USM) Lens achieves stunning images not only because it is a fixed length telephoto lens, but because of all the features and intricate design that go in to each photo you take. From the construction of the lens to its portability to fast, accurate autofocus, this Canon 85mm f/1.8 has all of the bells and whistles where it counts: offering you consistent imaging with beautiful accuracy on a variety of subjects.
Telephoto shots don’t have to be rocket science—at least, not when you’re working with a lens as sophisticated and consistent as the CANON EF 85MM F/1.8 (USM) U.S.A.
The Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Lens is a highly practical and portable medium telephoto lens that offers superb image delineation. Renowned for producing sharp and clear images across all aperture settings, this lens is a favorite among professional photographers and hobbyists alike.
Designed through advanced computer simulations, the lens creates a beautiful background blur, often referred to as bokeh, which allows in-focus subjects to stand out against a softly blurred backdrop. This is achieved through a virtually circular aperture diaphragm, which also gives out-of-focus regions a more even and aesthetically pleasing feel.
One of the standout features of the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM lens is its large maximum aperture. This f/1.8 aperture allows photographers to shoot hand-held in challenging low-light conditions, while also providing the ability to restrict depth-of-field for creative effects.
Ideal for portrait photography, the short telephoto focal length of the lens subtly compresses perspective, reducing the size of prominent facial features for a more flattering result. The lens also features a non-rotating front element during focusing, enabling the use of specialist filters such as polarizers and graduates without affecting the image quality.
The lens is equipped with a ring-type ultrasonic motor that drives autofocus extremely quickly and nearly silently. This ensures accurate focus without overshooting, and with the added benefit of full-time manual override, photographers can adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
The EF 85mm f/1.8 USM lens also features Super Spectra coatings, which ensure accurate color balance and enhance contrast. These coatings also reduce flare and ghosting, a common issue caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
Finally, the lens integrates seamlessly with E-TTL II flash metering, passing distance information back to a compatible EOS camera to ensure optimal flash metering. This makes the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Lens an essential tool for any photographer looking to capture stunning portraits and close-up shots.
