I have moved to Sony shooting mainly night & low light Astro photography. The 24 f1.4 GM is a total game changer that has taken my Aurora and MilkyWay photography to a new level. This lens is mounted to my Sony A7R 4A the 24mm f1.4 GM delivers above and beyond all expectations the detail from corner to corner is fantastic the best I have ever used. I have not seen any Chromatic aberrations, Coma, vignetting, this lens keeps on Giving outstand images no matter what I point it at.

I purchased this used and it looks mint apart from the serial number stickers that are peeling off. Otherwise a great lens so far.

I use this for astro a lot. I use it on my full frame camera and switch to ASP-C mode for street, giving me an about 38mm equivalency. Excellent Bokeh. great colors and always sharp as a whistle.

I have been using this lens for a few weeks now and I am very impressed by its performance and quality. It is a fast, sharp, and compact wide-angle prime lens that delivers stunning images on the sony a7III. The lens is very well built, with a metal barrel, a rubberized focus ring, and a manual aperture ring that can be de-clicked for smooth transitions. It also has a focus hold button, a focus mode switch, and a lockable lens hood. The lens is weather-sealed and dust-resistant, which is great for outdoor shooting. The autofocus is fast, silent, and accurate, thanks to the direct drive SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) system. The lens works well with the sony a7III's eye AF and tracking modes, and I had no issues with focus hunting or missed shots. The manual focus is also smooth and precise, with a linear response and a good amount of resistance. The image quality is superb, with excellent sharpness, contrast, and color rendition. The lens resolves a lot of detail on the 24-megapixel sensor of the sony a7III, even at the widest aperture of f/1.4. The lens also has very low distortion, chromatic aberration, and coma, thanks to the advanced optical design that features two XA (extreme aspherical) elements, three ED (extra-low dispersion) elements, and a Nano AR coating. The lens produces beautiful bokeh, with smooth and circular out-of-focus highlights, thanks to the 11-blade circular aperture. The lens also has a very shallow depth of field at f/1.4, which allows for creative isolation of the subject from the background. The lens also handles flare and ghosting very well, even when shooting against the sun or bright lights. The lens is very versatile, as it can be used for a variety of genres, such as landscapes, street, portraits, weddings, astrophotography, and more. The 24mm focal length is wide enough to capture a lot of the scene, but not too wide to cause distortion or perspective issues. The f/1.4 aperture is ideal for low-light situations, as well as for creating a dramatic effect with the background blur. The lens is also very compact and lightweight, weighing only 445 g (0.98 lb), which makes it easy to carry around and balance on the sony a7III. The lens is much smaller and lighter than the Sigma 24mm F1.4 Art lens, which weighs 665 g (1.47 lb) and is 90 mm (3.55 in) long, compared to the Sony's 75.4 mm (2.97 in) length1. The only downside of this lens is the high price, which is $1,398 at the time of writing2. This is a premium lens that comes with a premium price tag, but I think it is worth it for the quality and performance that it delivers. This is one of the best wide-angle prime lenses that I have ever used, and I highly recommend it to anyone who owns a sony a7III or any other full-frame Sony mirrorless camera.

Really wanted to love this lens as I've wanted a faster prime than the sigma 14-24 I've been using, and at 24mm it definitely performs better in terms of sharpness and quality to the edges of the frame than both the sigma and the sony 24-105mm. However, I bought this lens explicitly for using wider apertures and at f1.4 to f2.0 the chromatic aberration is the worst I've experienced and feels disappointing from a lens in the GM category. I contacted customer support and the impression I got was the lens was functioning as well as it could - based on my experience if you're in the market for this I'd perhaps consider the Sony 20mm f1.8 or the Sigma 24mm prime instead!

I purchased the Sony GM 35mm 1.4 at another retailer along this 24mm 1.4 GM from Adorama. After a full day of testing both lenses were stellar on my Sony A7IV, but I fell in love with the 24mm focal length. I returned the 35mm GM and kept this lens and never looked back. My next venture will the Sony 14mm GM 1.8 and a Sony A7RV to round out my kit.

I purchased this lens open box and when I finally received it, it was just like new! Of course I get the full manufacturer warranty from Sony as well. This is the 2nd OB from Adorama and I?m blown away with the value and quality. This 24 GM is awesome attached to my A7 IV and is a blast to use. IQ is top notch. This is the best 24mm on the Sony platform!. I almost pulled the trigger on the Sigma 24mm 1.4 DG DN, but decided to give a first party lens a try for once. If you can find one OB from a reputable company like adorama, spend the little extra and get the full Sony GM experience. You won?t be sorry!

I wasn?t sure about whether it was worth spending the money on the 24mm f1.4 GM lens. Having used it for a couple of weeks I am really delighted with the lens. Love the sharpness, love the autofocus performance. It is very light for a F1.4 lens. There is a bit of flaring when shooting into the sun could but I think Sony have made all the right trade offs with this lens. I couldn?t be happier with it. This is my first GM lens. I suspect it may not be my last.

The best 24/1.4 you can buy from any system
By TheTog
It's not an exaggeration to say that Sony just made the best 24/1.4 out there. The most important points are that it's lighter than all modern 24/1.4 (including the Leica 24/1.4) and smaller than most (bigger than the Leica). Here is my own list of pros, so-so, and cons ***Pros*** + Lightest and smallest for its class so more enjoyable to use, more suitable for small Sony mirrorless bodies + Sharp corner-to-corner from WO, great stop down as well + Lowest sagittal coma in it class, great for...

IT'S A 100% YES
By Mystro
I bought this lens and i've been totally happy. i own about 10 lenses and this is one of the best. It's a 100% yes
The Sony Alpha FE 24mm f/1.4 prime lens is yet another valuable addition to Sony’s line of G Master lenses, specifically designed for use with full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and APS-C sensor models. With a wide-angle focal length and an exceptionally bright design, the lens is suitable for a wide range of subjects and shooting situations. The 24mm perspective is just wide enough to capture more of the scene without presenting too much apparent distortion while the complementary f/1.4 maximum aperture offers increased depth of field control and enhanced low-light performance. The circular aperture also features a total of 11 blades, allowing the lens to produce perfectly round out-of-focus lights and smoother bokeh. Aside from supporting hybrid autofocus with both contrast and focal-plane phase detection AF, the lens has a Direct Drive Super Sonic Motor (DDSSM) system that provides quick, silent, and high-precision AF performance. Three extra-low dispersion (ED) and two extreme aspherical (XA) lens elements significantly reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for enhanced image sharpness and clarity. The glass elements are also Nano AR-coated to control lens flaring and ghosting, thus increasing image contrast and color fidelity even when shooting in harshly lit environments.
The FE 24mm F1.4 GM realizes consistently high resolution across the entire frame and delivers soft and natural bokeh - a signature feature of Sony’s G Master lens series. It also boasts a new optical design comprised of 10 groups with 13 elements, including two XA (extreme aspherical) and three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements. The incorporation of two XA elements ensures that point light sources can be accurately reproduced, making the FE 24mm F1.4 GM a compelling proposition for astrophotography. For impressive clarity, Sony’s unique Nano AR Coating is applied to reduce lens flare and ghosting, even in landscape shots where the position of the sun can be problematic with a normal lens.
The F1.4 max aperture maintains exposure and depth of field, allowing you to isolate your subject from the foreground and background with amazing light gathering capabilities when shooting wide open. When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the areas out of the focal plane appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background is enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens.
The 11-blade circular aperture maximizes the beauty of this large-aperture prime-lens, contributing to impressive images in which the subject stands out against a smoothly defocused foreground and background, as well as perfectly round points of defocused light. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides that create unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.
The 24mm F1.4 GM lens supports hybrid autofocus for both contrast and focal-plane phase detection AF. It has a high-precision Direct Drive Super Sonic Motor (DDSSM) system that ensures exceptionally fast, quiet and accurate AF performance. The precision internal focus mechanism aids in AF speed by moving only the middle groups of the optical system and effectively minimizing focus breathing, while keeping the lens size compact and lightweight. In addition to being the ideal wide prime lens for stills, it is also exceptionally suited for video with a linear motor that takes on the vital role of ‘wobbling’ to providing high-speed actuation for the contrast AF detection system, for smooth, continuous AF.
The 24mm F1.4 GM employs two XA (Extreme Aspherical) lens element, one of which is the front lens. This large-diameter front XA lens element features a new optical design, maximizing the advantages of the short mirrorless camera flange distance, and effectively suppresses various aberrations, especially the peripheral area in the frame and sagittal flare. Two XA elements compensate for coma, field curvature, and astigmatism that can be problems with wide-angle large-aperture optics. This also contributes to the compact and lightweight design.
Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements take axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration due to differences in magnification out of the picture, maximizing resolution and bokeh while leaving precisely rendered edges with no fringing or unnatural coloration, while significantly reducing flare and ghosting.
This remarkably compact and lightweight lens weighs in at only 15.7oz (445g) with smallest in class dimensions of 3” (75.4mm) diameter and 3-3/4” (92.4mm) in length. It’s compact, lightweight design enhances portability and mobility thanks to the combination of optical design utilizing two XA elements and the newly developed DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) AF system.
The focus hold button not only performs its primary function to lock focus when recomposing, but can be customized to a number of other functions depending on your needs. In addition to Focus Hold, these custom functions include: Eye AF, AF On, Aperture Preview, Shot Result Preview or Bright Monitoring.
Instantly and quickly switch between auto and manual focus via an AM/MF switch on the side of the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you, or decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you chose.
