I have been a professional photographer for over 25 years, having started back in the film days. Back then Sigma was not particularly well known for high optics, rather being a good value for after market lenses. How things have changed. I have owned Sigma Art lenses in various mounts, Nikon, Sony and now Lumix L mount. Having just recently picked up a Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K and a Lumix S5IIX, I could not pass on the opportunity to take advantage of a deal on an open box 105 2.8 macro. The lens is incredibly sharp, and looked new when it arrived. I've never been disappointed buying anything from Adorama, and have been pleasantly surprised the few times I've purchased open box items. Outstanding experience all the way!

Corner to corner sharpness, nice out of focus transitions, optically better than the 90mm G alternative.

Incredibly sharp lens edge to edge. My only concern is the lack thereof auto focusing. It's notably slow unless the camera I anchored or stabilized by something. Haven't used it enough to judge it in every setting (for macro photography). Haven't tried portraits yet-

This lens is amazing. I can get super close to my macro subjects and have complete lens control. So much better than stacking tubes and trying to get the camera to behave. This one rocks. Superb sharpness and clarity using my Sony A7RIV. No problems with resolution that I can see. Shooting macro can be very challenging with the razor thin focus area. I was able to setup some subjects using a tripod and the Sony app...I can put the camera (not lens) in manual focus, snap a photo, and then using the app adjust focus just a little bit. Rinse, lather, repeat until I have quite a set of shots to assemble back into photoshop. The size, weight, fit and finish of this lens do not disappoint. I own several Sigma lenses including other Art lenses and this one holds up to the name.

This thing is a blast to use. By far my most fun lens. When people say that it?s sharp, it?s tough to explain how true that is. It requires a slight learning curve to master, but the challenge is actually a joy to master. Just make sure you have some extra lighting for high f-stop with higher shutter speed when capturing jittery insects

This is the best macro/portrait lens. I have used Sony brands as well. But I personally like this more. 105mm is more appealing range.

Optically, this is a nearly perfect lens. However, for some reason, IBIS on my Sony A1 doesn't work with this lens. If your closeup shots are going to be exclusively done from a tripod, I think this is an outstanding lens to have. If you want to do closeups handheld at times, this may not work. My other lenses clearly show IBIS working; with this lens the IBIS appeared to be off. My Fuji 80 macro (IS in the lens) and X-T3 is a much much better option for handheld closeups.

The lens is tack sharp. Great for both macro and as a portrait lens. Pretty fast continuous focus so it can be used for family sports as well. Focus ring is smooth and well placed. A great choice for a lens that is great at several specialties.

I purchased this to go on the Leica CL to use primarily for macro. I was a worried that the full frame Sigma 105 would be a be too large on the little CL, but I was pleasantly surprised by how they paired together. Macro focusing takes some practice, when right at the minimum focus distance. The AF will cycle all the way in and out, and MF seems to take a lot of turns. Further away from the subject AF has been perfect. Sigma Art lenses are stunning and such a fantastic value.

my wife is the photographer in the family and has been dying for a macro lens, so imagine her surprise on her birthday opening this. She immediately went out to shoot and has done so multiple times since. She absolutely loves it!

I received this fantastic lens about 2 weeks ago and have had the opportunity to use it alone as well as with extension rings coupled with the NiSi close-up lens. Those attachments boosted the lens to 2:1 macro. I have also done critical tests for sharpness and have found this lens is quite sharp centrally as well as in the corners at f/2.8. By f/4 the sharpness is truly remarkable. Autofocus is very fast, as fast as my Sony 24-105mm lens on my Sony A7r4. My subject matter was store bought cut flowers. The color interpretation by the lens is quite accurate and I do not see any chromatic aberration. The sharpest lens I own is a Voigtlander 65mm f/2 Apo Lanthar macro lens. Comparing the Sigma 105mm macro to the Voigtlander I would say that the sharpness of the Sigma is very close to the Voigtlander with the contrast falling a little short of the latter. The Voigtlander is a manual focus lens and sells for more than the Sigma. Like most Sigma lenses the macro is heavier than comparable lenses from other manufacturers and that is generally due to the fact that Sigma uses complex formulations to reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations in their lenses. That is manifest in the unusually high numbers of lens elements and groups. Its not uncommon to see a Sigma lens with 19 elements in 13 to 15 groups. That is a lot of glass. Also Sigma often makes lens elements that are greater in diameter in order to achieve corner sharpness. Evidence of that for example is the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens which I own. It takes a 77mm filter while most 50mm f/1.4 lenses use 67mm or 72mm filters. Bottom line....purchase this lens if you are looking for a macro lens. You will be amazed.

I'm really enjoying this lens on my Sony. I had one time early on where in a low contrast situation it just refused to focus. But ever since then it has been fast and accurate, although you can hear the focusing motor. Optically I think Sigma just smashed it with this one. If you get a shot in focus and timed right it is extremely sharp, and apparently they have developed it with very little color fringing and well controlled ghosting. If you want an affordable real deal macro, that stays sharp to infinity, get this.

Purchased the L-Mount version of this incredible lens. This may be the sharpest lens in my stable. It's perfectly balanced for the Panasonic S series of cameras. The focus limiter switch makes is a great option for faster focusing, and the aperture switch can be set for click or smooth fstops. Great for macro and portrait work. The 9 diaphragm blades makes for great bokeh.
