I'm really happy with this lens. I bought it to use on my Cannon EOS Rebel SL1 to take portraits and shoot architecture when I'm traveling. So far it's been great - the images are sharp and it takes up almost not space in my bag.

Great for the price I paid. Sharp at all apertures above f/4 and tack sharp at f/8. Adorama customer service great as usual.

I bought the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM in November of 2023 as a 35-40mm equivalent prime for Canon's APS-C crop and it's actually surprisingly pretty good! The size of this lens is so small, you could fit it in your pocket. Once it's mounted to your camera, it basically feels like you don't even have a lens on it, its quite nice for keeping your setup extremely light. The 24mm focal length on the EF-S mount is close to the 35mm-40mm on a full frame camera, making this lens quite versatile. I have used this lens while walking around with only a wrist strap, it's extremely comfortable to use considering it's so small. However, it doesn't sacrifice too much image quality even with it's small size. There is stronger vignetting around f/2.8, but stopping down to f/4-5.6 yields a lot brighter corners and more sharpness as well. The f/2.8 is extremely handy though when light is not as available, just keep in mind this is not the sharpest f-stop for this lens as is to be expected. You can get reasonable amounts of bokeh with this lens, although you have to be fairly close which can cause some distortion, so be careful when taking portraits. The lens is also able to focus fairly closely which is a big positive, however the STM focusing motor can be a bit noisy and slow, so keep that in mind for video applications. There is also no Image Stabilization, so I would recommend using this lens with a tripod if you are using it for video. Overall, it's hard to not recommend this lens considering how small and light it is. It would be perfect for landscapes, street photography, car photography, and more because of it's reasonably low minimum aperture and tiny, friendly size.

I wasn't sure about this lens at first but once I had a chance to play around with it I saw just how useful it could be. There's no more, "OK, everyone get in close for the picture." Obviously it's amazing for landscapes as well. Pictures are tack sharp. I'm looking forward to make photographic experiments!

got this specifically to take workout videos. once i figured out all the settings, it works like a charm. only con is it films in wide screen, so i can see on the camera a full screen, but some of that is cut off

WOW - great simple little lens for learning and teaching photography - I just started using use it with an old Rebel T4, and it like makes it into a new professional camera again! Light-weight, affordable, sharp, with great definition (even tough condition like at 1/60, ISO100, f2.8 indoors on my moving children - came out beautifully! Outdoor photos were surprising mediocre - on a sunny day a lot seemed overexposed and washed out--that may just be my mistake on camera settings though...

An inexpensive and useful lens. Great for hobbyist and "prosumer" customers. Very light weight. Auto focus is a bit noisy, but quite tolerable.

So glad I bought this lens! For the price, I really don't think there's anyhthing out there that can beat it. Nice, fast and bright f2.8 aperture really helps in low-light situations. The metal lens mount looks and feels very sturdy. Being an EF-S mount, it will only work properly on Canon's crop sensor cameras. Though it will physically mount on Canon's full-frame DSLRs like the 5D, you will see significant vignetting, since this lens does not project a large enough image circle to be able to fully cover the full-frame image sensor area. Stick to using it on crop sensor bodies, like the XXD series (40D, 77D, 80D, etc), 7D and the Rebel series, and you'll be just fine. When mounted to crop sensor bodies with Canon's 1.6x crop factor, you will end up with a field of view roughly equivalent to that of a 38.4 mm lens, which is a terrific, natural field of view that is perfect for general photography and especially good for street photography, which, I feel, is where this lens really shines, since it's small, light and unobtrusive. It keeps your kit small and less intimidating, so you can get those candid shots that you might miss with a larger camera/lens combo. Speaking of size, this lens, when mounted to the camera body, sticks out barely an inch, and weighs only a few ounces, so it's light and easy to carry all day. It is autofocus, and features Canon's STM autofocus motor, which is quick and very quiet. Great for video. The front element does not rotate when focusing, so you can use circular polarizing filters with no issues. It's recommended though, that you do not attach anything really large or heavy filters, since the STM motor -- while quick -- is not very strong and could potentially be damaged by too much resistance. There is a very thin manual focus ring too, should the user wish to make manual fine focus adjustments. There is no image stabilization, but I have not found that to be very necessary with fast, wide primes, so i personally do not find that a significant drawback. Images from this lens are sharp, clear and punchy, with good depth and contrast, and excellent color rendition. For its price point - around $130 - this is an excellent purchase, and very worthy of a place in your kit.

This is a nice lens. The focal length on my SL1 make it great for getting group shots. The f2.8 aperture is good in low light making for some sharp pictures. This is a great balance to the 50mm as I don't need to be as far to get multiple people in a shot.

Photographing cars is lots of fun. They come in a staggering variety of sizes, shapes and colors and each one is interesting to photograph for different reasons. Sure it's fun to gawk, but bring your camera (you might even sell a few photos).

Bought this lens for my Canon 7D Mark II. Acts like a 40mm on a FF camera. Keeps a low profile, smooth focus. Matches my 40mm pancake lens. Good little lens!
Perfect walkaround lens!

Awesome lens! Perfect walkaround lens at a near 35mm equivalent! Pros: - Fast f/2.8 aperure. - Extremely lightweight - on my SL1 w/ battery included the whole thing weighs only 1.16 lbs. - Very low profile. - Sharp in the center. - Accurate color rendition. - Pair this with the 40mm pancake lens and you'll have quite the travel kit! Cons: - A tad soft in the corners. *****5 stars to Adorama for the free overnight shipping. I ordered mine from Adorama last night at 9 PM and it arrived toda...

This compact 'pancake' lens, with a width just slightly wider than a nickel, is perfect for photographers seeking a portable and versatile lens for their Canon DSLR.
Engineered with an aspheric lens element and an optimized lens arrangement and coating, this lens is designed to minimize flare and ghosting, ensuring your images are clear and vibrant. The seven circular aperture blades contribute to a pleasing bokeh effect, adding an artistic touch to your photos.
