Surprisingly good

I have tried this teleconvertor on a Sigma 18-50 f2.8, a Tamron 70-300 f4-5.6, a Nikkor 28-80 f3.3-5.6 and even a Nikkor 35mm prime f1.8. In all cases it functioned properly posting correct adjusted EXif data for aperture and zoom. Images suffered little to no degradation, distortion of aberration. Sharp focus and good AF performance, even zoomed to 300mm @ f5.6, though it was a little slow at that point. I am delighted with the new range this gives my lenses. At this price ($140) it was a steal!

Works great

Bought primarily for use with EF70-300L, which won't accept Canon TC's. I use it with other lenses and my telescopes also. Very pleased.

Not perfect, but okay

Using this on an EOS T6i with a legacy 70-200mm f5.6 lens (full frame, from a film body). Autofocus works--- must of the time, but sometimes becomes difficult at longer focal lengths. Not sure why; it doesn't seem to be a function of ambient light. Manual focus isn't always a bad thing. I didn't experience the switched-off battery drain mentioned by others--- I've made a point of leaving the teleconverter installed for several days. No effect on the battery. The lens stays sharp all the way out at the 200mm setting. For the money, I'm pleased.

degrades the image

If you are trying to extend a good-quality Nikon lens such as the 200-500 or 70-300 then my experience is you will not be satisfied with this extender; at least I wasn't. I did detailed pixel-peeping comparisons of raw images of rock grain shot with a D7200 with those two lenses with and without this extender, and in both cases the cropped images without the extender had slightly better detail. Admittedly the loss isn't much, but if I can do better without the extender than with it I don't see the point. If you put this on a telephoto that isn't razor sharp then you might not notice the loss, but with these two lenses the loss was obvious.

Great image quality

Excellent image quality when used with the AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4D. See samples. Build quality is quite good. As noted by others it results in overexposures on both the D750 and D7000 requiring a 1.3 to 1.7 stop compensation. And it severely overexposes with the AF screw drive lens I tried it on. But for my intended use, I find it to be an excellent investment.

This Kenko works great with my Canon L lens collection. Auto focus and lens/photograph information is also captured corrected with the image. I have found no downside with this teleconverter and find it more capable than the Canon OEM for about 1/3 the cost. Recommended.

Works better than the Canon adapters!

I needed this to attach Canon 100mm f2.8 for professional work. The CAnon adapters would not allow me to attach my macro. This worked without a hitch.

Exactly as promised

Purchased the Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DGX 1.4 to use with my Nikon 200-500 5.6 VR lens, making it a 280-700 F8 lens, plus on my Nikon D500 1.5 factor, making it a 35mm equivalent of a 420-1050mm lens. All of the data contacts are there with the TC, so nothing was lost, all electronics work as expected. Would recommend for anyone trying to get a little extra reach and at a 1/3 of the Nikon one, its a bargain.

Does everything I expected.

I'm very impressed with this converter, especially for an inexpensive 3rd party piece. I bought this primarily to give my 'walkabout' lens (24-120 f/4) some extra reach when I don't want to carry an additional longer lens. On a D610, with this extender, the 24-120 still focuses fast and accurate, even in very dim light, VR works, it reports the adjusted efl and f#, and it provides more resolution than switching to DX mode or cropping... Just what I wanted! No, its not Nikon build quality, but I wasn't expecting that at the pricepoint.

Drains battery on Canon 7 D when stored

I bought this about a year ago. I like the lens. It works well and resolution appears good. I use it on my Canon 7d typically mated to my Canon 24-105 zoom. Great versatility. So its a good lense. The problem I have encountered is that it totally drains the camera battery when the camera is in the off position and this lense is attached for a few days. It took some investigation on my part to isolate this 1.4 extender as the root cause of the battery draining. I did not think it was possible with the camera shut totally off. So i do not leave this lense on the camera anymore when idle for a few days. If i do, out of convenience I remove my battery.

Excellent

[Retired] Because of different reviews, I decided to do my own tests, trying to keep it as fair as possible.. Cameras; Nikon D750 and a Nikon D500, Lenses; Nikon 24-85F4.5 & 70-300F5.6 FX[full frame] , 18-55F5.6 & 55-30F5.6 DX[3/4 Frame], also 25 year old Tokina ATX film lenses 28-70 F2.8 & 150-500 F5.6[All Manual].. This is what I found; I shot Colored Stone, Trees, Airplanes.. Checking for Sharpness & overall Clarity.. I found the standered 1 stop loss with the 1.4 & Very very little Loss of sharpness & Clarity, For some Oddball reason my 18-55DX lens would not work Correctly, it's auto-focus kept jumping around.. All other lenses, auto-focus worked decent, as you still have to have enough light coming in to work the focus sensor.. I found that on the 300mm [W/the 1.4] it was better to use manual focus on anything other than Full sunlight.. In my case, with the 1.4 mounted, everything else worked just fine.. Oh, I also mixed the FX & DX lenses between the Full frame and 3/4 frame Cameras.. Have Fun Photographing..

Clean and crisp

Tried this with a Nikon 70 - 200 2.8 lens. Shot wild elk in a field. Could only get about 30 yards but this converter managed to grab a clean shots. Was able to crop the original image considerably to get a magnificently clear and very usable cropped final image. With this lens would recommend shooting between 5.6 - 8 for clean edges.

I am very happy with my purchase

This extender works well with my Canon 70-300L lens and Rebel camera body. It allows me to keep my pack as light as possible but still have the reach I need for animal photography. I received it a few days after ordering. I am very happy with my purchase.

Not so good with a zoom

I was trying this with a 70-300 zoom lens. I found that most but not all of my photos were soft. The AF worked if the camera was steadied on a monopod and the subject didn't move. If there was motion as any part of the equation, it hunted. Because f8 was its limit, it hunted in anything but bright sun. MF works okay. Just not a good combination for my purpose, birds, so I'm returning it.

works pretty good

I like it. Works pretty good. Image quality is better than the old converters I used in the film days. Fit is a little loose and I lost communication with the lens a couple of times shooting a football game, especially when I went vertical. A little jiggle and communications came back. Shortcoming but a good solution for gaining reach and worth 1 stop trade off.

It works well with the telescope also.

This teleconverter is being used in conjunction with a Nikon 180mm f/2.8 lens and with a 72mm f/6 telescope for astrophotography. I have been getting crisp images with no apparent loss of resolution compared to the 180mm lens alone. It works well with the telescope also.

Excellent

The quality of the pictures has more to do with the lens you mount this on. I use it on a Canon ef 70-200 f/4 with very good to excellent results. The limiting factor is in obtaining precise focus as the depth of field is reduced with higher focal length. Also on the Canon 85 f/1.8 at f/2.8 with great sharpness. There is some color fringing on the 85mm but that is characteristic of the lens not the converter. The connection between lens and converter is not lock tight, but presents no meaningful problem. There is very little to complain about with this product. It just works well.

Inconclusive So Far

I am still comparing images with this teleconverter. One thing is for sure, it saves money on buying even more expensive glass. I use this TC with my 70-300L, and so far, the images have been acceptable. My 420mm shots are not as clean as my 300mm shots, but I have 120mm more reach than I had before.

Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DGX AF 1.4x TC

Use it with my 100-400L. It does not seem to degrade the image at all. It does cause my 7D to hunt with the lens unless there is high contrast and lots of it. Lots of light is needed also to get AF. BIF do not seem possible.

After dealing with Nikon tech support (equivalent to no support) I bought a Nikon teleconverter which was incompatible with my lenses. I sent the Nikon back & bought the Kenko which solved my problems, is a quality product and is easy to use. I recommend it.

A trusty piece of equipment

I use this T.C. with several Canon lenses and it just works! AF is fast and accurate. Picture quality is excellent while using this T.C.! Another advantage is the T.C. reports all information to the camera body, so one knows all photo specific details. I like to know my focal distance when I review my photos. One thing I would like Kenko to include is: maybe there can be an asterisk somewhere on the file, so one knows when a T.C. was used, but not at max focal length. Maybe it's an Adobe or Apple issue? If an identifier already exists, then disregard my comment. It's my ignorance for not figuring it out!

Good value

Used with Canon 7D, Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. With typical landscapes and good light, the Kenko TC performs very well, focusing quickly with good accuracy. I noted some softening at the extremes, but that was expected and somewhat correctable in software. Much better than expected performance shooting macro from 5 1/2'. Birds in flight presented a much larger challenge and performance here was inconsistent with focus often too slow to capture subjects accurately. Overall, a useful addition to the bag for Canon shooters wishing to extend their range a bit without taking out a second mortgage for "L" lenses and the pricey Canon TC that only works on "L" lenses. The Kenko TC will NOT work on EF-S lenses and in some situations, count on focusing manually for best results.

Improves Resolution On Sigma 120-400

By EDWARD G.

Purchased this from Adorama to use with Sigma 120-400 /4.5-5.6 Apo HSM, also purchased from Adorama. Wasn't expecting what I have observed in static (tripod, remote shutter release)tests with my Canon 40D. With Sigma set to approximately 285mm x 1.4 mag factor = 399mm, the resolved detail on brick surfaces or Hardy Plank wall board textured surface (15 feet distance) is decernably better in an unadjusted RAW file than then equivalent prime lens magnification at 400mm without the Kenko in the ...

Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DGX converters are made with precision quality multi-coated optical glass supplied by Hoya Corporation, the worlds largest manufacturer of optical glass. These glass elements were designed to match the optical quality of the prime lens (even at the edges) and telephoto zoom lenses. The optical design of the elements and light path is wide enough not to cause vignetting.

The Pro 300 family are designed specifically to be used with prime telephoto lenses of 100mm or above, such as 300 mm f/2.8 lenses and work best with telephoto lenses of 200mm to 500mm. The Pro 300 can be used with telephoto zoom lenses as well as prime lenses. However, Kenko does not recommend them for zoom lenses that have a range starting under 50 mm.

Kenko Pro 300 AF Teleplus converters have genuine Gate Array IC (Integrated Circuitry). It means that the converter's own unique circuitry maintains signal integrity between the camera body and lens. These converters are designed to electronically operate the same way as an original manufacturer's converter. With the Pro 300 1.4x, DGX full AF operation is possible with camera lenses having a maximum aperture of F4 or brighter.

The same light and contrast requirements apply. The DGX Teleplus converters have updated circuitry to record exif data more accurately. In the exif exposure data (meta-data recorded with a digital picture) DGX converters record the equivalent aperture and focal length of the lens setting plus tele-converter. Optically and mechanically they are the identical to the prior high-quality DG series converters.
