Use as a normal lens

Use this lens as my normal lens. It?s mounted on my camera all the time. I can go from a macro shot to a long shot without changing my lens. Images are sharp as a tack,

Tamron 16-300mm

Great travel lens. I was able to capture whale watching, open door helicopter tour as well as more normal sightseeing and people watching. Fast and sharp.

Not for me.

This lens did NOT keep up. The focus was constantly off, and it just wouldn't lock at the longer end at all. Big paperweight unfortunately.

Very versitle

A good lens across the entire zoom range. Great for travel as you have a 300 mm lens for those long shots and a 16 mm lens for when you want wide angle.

great lens

Have enjoyed this lens for several years. Actually has become my 'go to' lens most of the time. Pics great, no drift when unlocked and has a great range. If the 16-400 is like this, would also be good investment.

Issues in Autofocus mode.

I liked the lens initially. It's light weight and fast auto focus. It had some issue with larger focal length, around 270 to 300mm range. But it started malfunctioning within a year and completely stopped working in auto focus more. I'm autofocus mode The lens does not allow the shutter to operate. It's manual focusing is working though.

I love this lens

I was torn between getting the 18-400 or this one and after reading dozens of different reviews I am happy that I choose this lens. It is a great all in one travel lens and does not add a huge amount of weight to the camera,

Wonderful for us one-lens people

If you pack and regularly switch lenses, this may not be your best option, as should be expected, sharpness falls off a bit at the near and far limits of this lens. But if you are like me and routinely carry/use one lens to reduce clutter, hassle and weight, this is a wonderful option. I especially appreciate the water-resistance. I shoot a lot from small boats moving fast in salt water.

Love this lens

In full daylight, this is the only lens I use. Simply stated, it's like two kit lenses in one but with a better build.

Tamron 16-300mm lens

A very good walk around lens. I believe that this in the only long zoom that is also ultra wide I.E. 16mm. The 2mm between 16mm and 18mm is quite large and very usable. I tried the Nikkor 16-85mm lens and it was very good but cost about twice the cost of this lens. The lens is very sharp from 16mm to 200mm. From 200 to 300 it is still close to excellent and very usable and few will see and difference.

Good travel and all-purpose lens.

This is my second Tamron zoom lens. I've been very satisfied with both lenses. Just took it on a 2-week trip to Colorado and got some great shots. The 16 mm to 300 mm zoom capability is great. It's wonderful not having to change lenses, especially when hiking or traveling. I also have a good 2.8 16mm to 50mm zoom which rarely requires a flash I really requires a flash. I tried this lens indoors without a flash and I was disappointed. It's definitely a capable, all-purpose lens. You get what you pay for. What more can you ask.

Takes some getting used-to

This is my first lens of this type. I've only had it about a month, but in that time I haven't been able to use it as much as I hoped (we've had a string of cruddy weather, so I couldn't get out to shoot). Just toodling around my backyard with my dogs- the lens feels good for weight and works well enough. There's some minor stuff I need to get used to when it comes to using a lens this long (at its longest point, that is). The real test will come next month when I use it at the Bristol Renaissance Faire (I'm one of their photographers). I dress up and carry my gear in a basket (which is both nerdy and kind of silly, because I whip out the camera whenever I need to, thereby negating the point of blending in with garb) so the lightweight feel compared to having two or three lenses in my basket was what drew me to this lens. Also- not needing to change it out will come in handy as renaissance faires are notoriously dusty. Do I like the lens? Yes. Would I recommend it? I suppose, but I can't say for sure till the "ultimate test of the ren faire" in July. If I can update this review then, I will.

1st time with a Tamron

Paired it with the Nikon D500, and so far I'k very impressed; from macro to near the end of the long reach 300mm. The image stabilization seems quite effective.

Excellent update to previous extended zoom lense

Seems to perform as well as my previous 18-270. What I like is the extended zoom range and manual focus which is active even during autofocus. The focus ring and zoom ring positions have been reversed. This has been giving me problems since I am used to the old positions. As with the previous version, this is a great lense to take on hikes. You are always ready to photo wildlife.

Very satisfied

Like the convience of shooting at different distances without changing lenses. Not overly impressed with shots at 300mm compared to my nikkor 70-300mm. Overall very satisfied

best walk around lens

This one lens too the place of a Canon 18~200mm and a Tamron 70~300mm lens. Less in my camera bag is better especially when I fly. No more swapping lenses while on vacation.

I really like this lens

By james g.

I've been studying photography through the newyork state institute of photography. I'm still somewhat of a novice in the sense I'm still learning about all the things I've already been taught. I've acquired about 9 lenses most of them from adorama. This lens is the first non Nikon lens I've purchased. I read up on this one and the sigma 18-300 as well as the nikor 18-300 and I found this lens to be most bang for buck and so far I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Abesofmain had the sa...

Best lens of this type that I've had

By Charles W.

This lens in NOT perfect. I wouldn't recommend it for a portrait professional, a wildlife professional, or any professional that shoots just one thing like sports, landscapes, architecture, etc. But if you shoot many different types of genres, and only want to use one lens, in my opinion, it may be the best. For comparison; on my D300, D7000, D7100, D7200, I have used Nikon 18-200, Nikon 18-300, Nikon 70-300, Tamron 18-270, and this Tamron 16-300. I shoot all types of genres, team photos,...

Tamron 16-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO an advanced new All-in-One zoom lens, designed exclusively for DSLRs with APS-C size image sensors, that provides an amazing 18.8x zoom ratio.

A further expansion of the imaging range with a minimum focal length of 16mm (35mm film equivalent: 24.8mm) at the wide-angle end of the zoom range, and a maximum focal length of 300mm (35mm film equivalent: 465mm), this remarkable new lens provides the world's first zoom ratio of approximately 18.8x.

Superior, reliable image quality.
The lens construction features 16 elements in 12 groups. This includes three Molded-Glass Aspherical elements, one Hybrid Aspherical element, two LD (Low Dispersion) elements, one XR (Extra Refractive index) glass element, and one element of UXR (Ultra-Extra Refractive Index) glass, which has a greater refractive index than XR. The full use of specialized glass elements in the design contributes to thorough compensation of optical aberrations. In addition, the use of the latest coating technology for suppressing reflections on lens element surfaces minimizes unwanted flare and ghosting and assures sharp, crisp, high-contrast images.

Using a new design approach to create an ultra-compact lens.
The latest optical technology has been used to provide an expanded zoom range (compared to the B008) at both the wide-angle and telephoto ends, without necessitating the use of an oversized lens body. By employing UXR glass (which helps to reduce the size of the front lens diameter), an optimized layout of the Molded-Glass Aspherical elements, and adopting a 5-lens-group zoom system approach to provide enhanced design flexibility, the new lens embodies the fusion of state-of-the-art optical design, sophisticated mechanical design, and high-precision lens manufacturing technology, thereby attaining a compact size, an unprecedented zoom range, and superior image quality.

A minimum focusing distance of just 15.3 inches supports an extensive range of macro photography capabilities.
The new lens provides a minimum focus distance of 15.3 inches over the entire zoom range, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9. This makes it possible to get right up close to the subject of the photo to enjoy easy, stress-free macro photography.

PZD (Piezo Drive) delivers faster, quieter autofocus action.
The PZD (Piezo Drive) advanced standing-wave ultrasonic motor system delivers faster, quieter, more precise AF action when the autofocus is engaged. There is enhanced support for contrast-detection AF capabilities, and focusing when in live-view mode has been made smoother. The new lens also features full-time manual focus, a function that was not provided on the B008, making manual focusing more convenient.

Sharper images with VC (Vibration Compensation)
Tamron's acclaimed VC mechanism is incorporated into the new lens. VC reduces image blur caused by camera shake to deliver significantly sharper images even when shooting handheld at long telephoto settings.

Moisture-resistant construction for worry-free outdoor shooting.
Moisture-resistant construction helps prevent moisture from penetrating the lens.

Upgraded cosmetic design.
Tamron has upgraded the cosmetic design and finish of this lens to create a more sophisticated, high-end look in keeping with the demands of discerning DSLR users. Employing a sophisticated linear pattern rubber grip on the zoom and focus rings, and an elegant tungsten-silver name-brand ring, etc., this newly designed model accentuates its visceral presence with understated elegance and class. For Cameras with APS-C Sensors
