My wife loves this adaptor

Received the adaptor right when Adorama said it would arrive. It comes with no instructions but non are needed as it simply locks onto the Sony body and the Canon Lens snaps on the other side. The photo are sharp and all functions with the Sony camera work as they should. Good buy. I would recommend this adaptor.

High hopes; wished it worked; it didn't

Had high hopes. Pairing a Sony a7rii with a canon 50 f1.4, autofocus was dicey - sometimes it worked, sometimes there was up to a 1 second lag between pressing the shutter button and shutter activation, sometimes the shutter never worked. Detaching and reattaching the adapter changed the behavior but in unpredictable ways that never seemed to replicate. So looks like its going back and I'll invest in an FE mount 35 or 50 rather than wrestle with the canon glass.

Metabones Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Sony Mount T Smart Adapter

It's easy to apply, understand, and use. I purchased a Sony A7r IV and use Canon lenses with no issues so far. I would suggest this purchase if you're in the same scenario as me.

Great adapter

Works exactly as advertised. I've used it with my Canon 70-200mm F2.8 and it works great. It's within milliseconds of the speed that it is on focus as on my Canon 5D.

Great for photos, meh for video

The adapter works great on my Sony A73 with some Canon L lens (17-40, 24-70 f2.8, 24-105 f4, 40 f2.8), ok with Canon 70-200 f2.8 L. They hunt a bit but I can manage. Photos are on normal Green mode. (Looks blue) Video af will not work in this mode. Advanced mode (red) photos af will hunt a lot. Even in normal lit areas. Video af works but takes a while to find focus. I stuck with the 24-105 for video. We have a lot of Canon glass but will be saving for native Sony glass.

Better Instructions

The instructions on the use of the unit are very confusing. There is no mention of the IBIS switch.

Quality built adapter.

I liked the fact there is such a device to adapt lenses to different bodies. This adapter would be great if you are mainly doing landscape photography. I enjoy shooting wildlife and birds and the focus was too slow in capturing the action shots.

unreliable performance

When the adaptor works: I tried 24-105 v1, 70-200 f2.8 v2, 50mm f1.8 STM, these worked reasonably well. I didn't try them on sports or any tracking application. But when it doesn't work, these same lenses will hunt back and forth and not able to focus on anything. Even manual focus to put the lenses on the subject, it will go off and hunt continuously. I have tried to turn off the camera, change to a different lens...etc. I attempted to reset the adaptor and only a percentage of times it will work, but at times, it will go back to the hunting mode. I was using the Sony A7iii, and the AF mode is limited to AFS and AFC. When it is working, I found the AFC AF worked better. There is also a switch on the adaptor, I found when the switch on the upper position is more responsive. I did not update any firmware. The lack of reliability of AF performance that really hurt. I shoot mostly events, and when the equipment fails and I can lose that great moment.

Save your glass that you know and love

Overall well worth the price, hunts a little in low light conditions but the Sony manual focus features make up for limitation. Saves me from selling my Canon glass.

Zero support from Metabones

be advised: if you purchase this and have any issues whatsoever, do not expect a reply from Metabones. I have contacted the company on multiple occasions due to an issue with the sensor light fluctuating from blue to red while the lens is on. It appears as though there is a malfunction in the contacts. No answer from the company. No response to emails. No contact number on the web site.

Works well on new Sony A7iii

I'd say it works very similar to reviews of this adapter working on the Sony A7Riii using Canon lenses. Seems great for stills and reasonably fast with movies, maybe 1/2 second to refocus on a moving subject. Lens tested so far: Canon 24-70 2.8 L, 100-400 L, 50mm 1.4 prime, and Canon 28-300mm. Did not autofocus when I tried using a 1.4X extender. Manual only with the 1.4X. I'm happy with it but think only fast lenses would be good in movie mode. Amazing low light photos with Canon lenses and the A7iii.

A Lifesaver

I just received my Sony A7 III and the Metabones V adapter. I'm pleased to report that this device worked flawlessly with every piece of Canon, Tamron, and Sigma glass (11 lenses in all) in my case. I was originally going to try using the Metabones adapter (fully expecting it to only be moderately good) and then order some Sony glass. To my very pleasant surprise... no need to order new glass because everything in my case worked so well. The pairing of this Camera and the Metabones adapter is earthshaking. Yep, go ahead and get one. I think you'll be as delighted as I have been.

Use Canon lenses on Sony A9

Seems to work adequately with my Canon 70 - 200 II, Canon 50mm EF 1.4 and Tokina SD 16 - 28 F2.8 (IF) FX...Just remember, best to use native lenses on native camera - Sony lenses on Sony camera...I just wasn't ready to buy a whole new set of lenses at this time...and I use my Canon 5DIII as backup...But I will always go straight to my Sony first...

Switching to Sony body

Recently purchased the Sony A6500 with a 85 1.4 GM lens, but I want to be able to use my Canon 16-35 2.8 and 24-70 2.8 L len's. Have tried both with the Metabones, I'm very happy with how well they work together. Face tracking for focus works well, a new feature that I'm getting used too, did have it on my Canon.

Works great but...

The good news is it's the best of its kind. The bad news is native lenses are always going to be better at auto-focusing (AF). But manual focus is perfect, and AF is very good for most lenses as long as they aren't longer than 200mm or so. Plus with lots of lenses you even get eye AF, at least on the a7riii. Not so much on the a6300. Don't know about the other Sony bodies. It's small too (I guess they all are), you hardly notice it.

Expensive but the best

As an owner of the Sigma MC-11 adapter, I can appreciate what the Metabones adapter brings to the table. Retaining eye-AF in the Metabones adapter while using my Canon f/2.0L 135mm was the reason why I purchased this adapter. Although in lower light conditions, the adapter breathes from time to time, it is still a key part of my kit when it comes to the 135mm. I would recommend buying this adapter ONLY if there is a particular lens with qualities that you can't currently get natively. For me, that is the 135mm. Overall, I can't argue about the performance.

Works for a better part of Canon to Sony Lenses

Just moved from Canon 6D to Sony A7RII. I have a Canon 24-70 2.8 Mkii lens, Canon 70-200 f/4 IS USM, and a Tamron 90 mm macro A017.... Metabones V works pretty well with all of the above lenses with the a little bit of hunting on the Tamron for basic and general autofocus. It get a little iffy if you go continuous and try to get eye autofocus. Video may be out of the question.

Fit with both lens flanges is excellent

I've only used 2 lenses with the Metabones so far, a Canon 24-105 Version I and a Tamron 15-30. Both work well in bright light conditions. In low light, the Canon AF does a lot of hunting for focus, enough that I usually use MF instead. I don't know whether this is because of the Metabones or if it is a Sony issue. I'm thinking it is most likely a Sony issue. I usually only use the Tamron for Milky Way, but for daylight shots it worked well with the Metabones. Fit with both lens flanges is excellent.

Not recommend but usable

The adaptor works but make sure you update the firmware. I've found the focus when zooming does not work consistently. When shooting wide it seems to work great.

The best Canon EF to Sony E smart adapter out there!

I have had and used Metabones adapter for quite sometime. Starting out with the III, IV and now the V. Each time, they upgraded the functionality with each iteration. The difference between IV and V is not so in the FW but they made the throat of their adapter larger to accommodate Sony FE 1.4X and 2X tele extender. If you combine either one of those with the Canon 1.4X in front of the adapter, you get the FL extended even more so. I tried it my Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 IS Mark II and I ended up with an excellent 1,120mm lens with auto focus in the green mode. Probably the longest with the Sony FE system at this point. Again, with AF!

Hit and Miss

Tried the MetaBones briefly out of curiosity for its ability with the Tamron 28-300 with the Sony A9. The system kept locking. After trying for several minutes, I ran out of patience. For those seeking to use Canon, Sigma, and Tamron lenses, I recommend the Sigma adapter instead. Costs less and performance has been much better for me with zero lockups.
