I bought this lens because I was looking at tilt shifts but couldn't afford what I wanted. While the Sweet 50 isn't a tilt shift, it's still a fun lens to play with and produces interesting, soft focus shots. Since it's a manual focus only lens there is definitely a learning curve. The focus depends on the aperture and which angle you tilt the lens. Overall, I'd recommend this lens to photographers that are looking to get out of a shooting rut or people that are interested in special effects lenses but are on a budget.

For the creative photographer this little lens is a blast. Sharp amazing f-22 / mind boggling narrow DOF at f-2.5 smooth focus. Adjustable locking ring for tilt. Full manual so dust off the light meter and give yourself a little old school photography fun.

I Was hoping I would like this lens! I found it extremely hard to take on & take off of my Nikon D7200.( Do not have trouble with any other of my lens.) Than focusing with just using manual focus is very tiring on the eyes especially if you are getting up in age. In starting out with this lens one should really use a tripod for tack sharpness . I’m not a fan in using my tripod for every shot & that is what I would have had to do. So after trying it out a bit I decided to send it back. One needs to be a fan of slightly out of focus. I was going for a painterly look but there is a strong learning curve using these lens.

If you expect to do anything on automatic this lens is not for you. If you are comfortable with manual focus and manual exposure this lens is a blast. In addition to the effects, an added bonus for me is it helps me focus on composition .

Outstanding lens and photo feature.
The Composer Pro II with Sweet 50 Optic is a 50mm f/2.5 selective focus lens with a 12-blade adjustable aperture. This lens enables you to illuminate the essential details at 50mm, creating wonder and feeling in your photos. Place the sweet spot of focus anywhere within the frame by tilting the lens to spotlight specifics in portraits and enhance everyday scenes.
Aperture ranges from f/2.5 through f/22. Along with controlling depth of field, aperture controls the size of the sweet spot of focus. Brighter apertures produce a smaller sweet spot of focus with more dramatic blur and darker apertures give you a larger area of focus with less blur. Sweet 50 Optic is part of the Lensbaby Optic Swap System.
