Love this lens as it replaced my two Kit lenses. This new lens has vibration control so when zooming in it stabilizes the Optics which is great!

I'm delighted with this lens. It is unusually sharp for a wide-range zoom (perhaps even sharper than my older 18-200 lens). It's essentially the same size as my older lens, so I can even use the same camera bag! VR is quick and very stable.

The focus is a little bit soft from 200mm to 300mm, but I suppose that should be expected as the aperture gets up to 6.3. I can't help that. I would not buy this lens again. I like my 28-300mm 3.5-5.6 much better.

Lens was everything I hoped it would be. My wife and I are taking an extensive trip in November with many stops in the Southern Hemisphere including Cambodia, India and Africa. I wanted one lens for landscapes, portraits, and wildlife and the 18-300 mm fits the bill.

I was hoping that this lens would be mounted on my D5100 and never be taken off. Unfortunately, its a little soft in the higher range.

I had hoped that this lens would replace two lenses that I own -- a Sigma 17-70 and a Nikon 70-300. Sadly, this Nikon 18-300 is not as sharp as either of those lenses. Though it would be convenient to have one lens that "does it all," convenience is temporary, but image quality is forever. So I'm sending this back. (I resent the fact that I have to pay the return shipping for this item.)

Granted, this is an early review, and I have only had several weeks of intermittent use of this lens, but I have not been impressed with the results so far. I even updated the firmware on my D7200 to see if that helped, but still find it difficult to get tack sharp photos using autofocus. I have been able to get some really sharp macro photos using manual focus, and the lens offers a very attractive bokeh background. I am not sure whether the lens I received has a slight defect, causing the issues with autofocus, compared to the inexpensive 18-140 lens that came packaged with the camera when purchased, or if the lens itself is lesser quality though considerably more expensive. I had really hoped to not have to carry my 200-500 zoom to get some good shots at medium distances, but the image quality with this lens is so far below the big lens, I unfortunately will have to continue carrying it around. I do have a friend who raves about the lens and intend to borrow his and compare image quality and function to see if it is an issue specific to this particular lens, but haven't had the opportunity yet. Based on my experience so far, I would not recommend this lens, but after trying my friends on my camera, I may update to confirm that I received a defective lens.

this is a lens that i bought to travel with. It is not a top line lens like the 24-70 2.8 but it does a good job and covers a lot of range and is not heavy.

I've had this lens for over a year now and it lives on a Nikon 7500. I've been extremely pleased with the results of this combination shooting jumping fish, boats in motion, as well as birds at distance and close ups and landscapes. This is a very light combination for easy carrying and versatility. Interesting watching the video here on the site I immediately recognized the NZ scenery! My first Nikon I took to NZ was a Nikonos II - great for hiking in the wet weather on the South Island and fabulous 35mm lens for landscapes and Kodachrome 64! After a series of 35mm Nikons to a 5300 and D300 for the heavy stuff, I'm really content with the 7500 and this lens. I also have the AS 70-200mm 2.8 VR (too heavy to easily carry) and it lives on the D300.

This lens is as described, and a great all-around solution for general photography. I’ve noted the vignette increasing as you reach the outer limit of the zoom, but it’s easily fixed by software once you’ve opened the file. The macro setting is yet another bonus and reason for getting this versus two or three lenses. Loving it so far!

I’ve wanted this lens for a while and the add-ons were mostly a bonus. Lens filters good quality. The one lens wrap is gigantic and not sure what it would be suited for - a super telephoto maybe? The other lens case is sturdy and has loops to fit on the outside of a camera bag if needed.

The lens is great! The ability to get long range and close up photos with a single lens and camera body is fantastic. Excellent bokeh, good in low light and sunny days, responsive auto focus.

I purchased this lens the other day to go with a D7500 body. I was amazed at the quality of the build of the lens, the smoothness of operation and the sharpness of the photos. It was very easy to use as well.

What a great lens! I had one before that was not as wide a range for the lens but it did have the Vibration Reduction. But this is far superior to that lens. The range from 18 - 300 is just absolutely perfect for all my needs. And I have seen a real difference with the VR. I can't wait to use this on our trip to Australia in February!

I bought this lens about a year ago and was convinced I received a bad copy. It would not consistently focus on moving subjects. I decided to give it another shot and bought it again. Same results poor focus accuracy on moving subjects. Did not matter if it was on my d3300 or d7200. Odd thing was randomly it would shoot an amazIng shot after shooting about 25 out of focus. I have purchased 13 Nikon lenses from the cheeper models to the high end models. I have never been disappointed with any of them other than this model. My 55-300 blows this one out of the water. I did not expect it to match my 70-200 F4 but for the price this was again disappointing. Fortunately Adorama has an awesome return policy. I will take my refund and probably by a teleconverter for my 200-500 just for fun. On a side note don't take Ken Rockwells on reviews seriously. He totally over rated this lens.

IMPORTANT- This lens does not come with a lens hood. I am a pro photographer so I have all the fast lenses. I bought this as my walk around outdoor lens and love The range. Somewhat unbelievable that it doesn’t come with the lens hood nor is it clearly indicated.

two Nikon 18-300 lenses from which to choose: a historical look...

I've had opportunity to study both lenses and how they are best for various shooters: I have sold Nikon products as a "Mom and Pop Dealer" for 20+ years. All-in-one lenses are convenient. They aren't the best choice for everyone. To describe them as only for amateurs or professionals is a little too simple. Nikon gives us many lenses to choose from: sometimes we sacrifice cash and extra weight and reap tremendous benefits! A host of fast prime lenses is ideal for some, but for many, a single...

Where versatility meets exceptional image quality, the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR lens stands out. This all-in-one wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens is specifically designed for Nikon DX-format DSLR cameras, equipped with an APS sensor. Offering a remarkable 16.7x zoom range, this lens is not only compact but also a versatile choice for diverse photography needs, from travel to family photos.
Ideal for both amateur photographers and photography enthusiasts, this lens delivers the superior image quality synonymous with Nikon APS DSLR cameras, but in a more lightweight and manageable camera-lens combination. The lens features vibration reduction technology, making it hand-holdable in lower light conditions and at longer focal lengths.
The lens elements are meticulously designed to produce the sharpest, clearest, and most accurate images possible. The zoom range is equivalent to a 27-450mm lens on a 35mm camera, making it a perfect choice for sports and wildlife photography. This lens is a significant upgrade from a typical kit lens, offering an extended focal range that covers everything from landscapes and interiors to portraits, wildlife, and sports.
Nikon's Vibration Reduction technology effectively combats camera shake, providing up to 4 stops of blur-free handheld photography in low light or when zoomed all the way out. The lens is optimized for sharp images, delivering stunning image quality with vibrant color, sharp detail, and minimal distortion.
Constructed with three aspherical (AS) glass elements and one Extra-low Dispersion (ED) element, this lens ensures fine focusing. It employs Nikon's advanced Silent Wave Motor (SWM) AF technology, which focuses quickly and almost silently, a great feature for both still photographers and HD video enthusiasts. The lens focuses internally, so the physical length of the lens doesn't change when focusing. With 7 rounded aperture blades, this lens promotes natural-looking out-of-focus areas and rounded specular highlights.
