Dazzling results.

Superior results at a minimun cost. The lens delivers clarity and sharpness that I never expected in a cheap lens. With auto-focus yet! Thank you Adorama.

Sweet & Simple!

I'd recently bought a beautiful Nikon and wanted a zoom lens for it. Even if I had decided not to buy the lens from Adorama, the value of the information I got about the lens from the Adorama website cannot be underestimated. (It's always where I start camera-related research.) So - the lens. The lens is much easier to use than I anticipated. It locks easily into the camera casing, and it's surprisingly light. The last camera I had with a zoom was somewhat heavy to begin with, and with the zoom, it was almost unmanageable. The Nikon lens is lightweight and very easy to manage, even for someone who is far from a professional. I've rarely had any out-of-focus shots when using this lens (and am prepared to admit that I'm to blame when I do, and not the equipment!), and the images returned are crisp and clear. I used the lens first for landscape pics in NYC and have no doubt that I've come home with images I simply couldn't have gotten without it. After having used the lens casually for a couple of weeks, I'm eager to take some time and see what I can really do with it. I suspect another Nikon lens is in my future. One last note - not about the lens. I have ordered online from Adorama before, but I purchased this lens in-store. The service I received was exceptional.

Excellant lens except focus at top mm

Excellant except focus at or near top end of the 55-200 mm range. Best focus is at or near the bottom range.

Failed lens

My lens failed while using it to photograph a blacksnake at my house. I took 5 pics and then it would not take another without the flash. The aperature does not open very far. The camera is a D80 and I took it to a local photoshop to verify it was the lens problem. I'm considering a off brand lens as I'm very disappointed in the reliability of the Nikon.

AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED A compact, lightweight and affordable 3.6x high-power telephoto zoom DX ideal for use with Nikon digital SLRs

This ultracompact, lightweight telephoto zoom lens has a 3.6x 55-200mm focal range and offers a remarkable cost-to-performance ratio. Its optics are optimized for use with Nikon digital SLRs, and it is ideally suited to the new Nikon D50.

The compact zoom lens offers powerful zoom performance of 55-200mm (providing a picture angle equivalent to an 82.5-300mm lens in 35mm format) and is suitable for everything from candid portraits to sports, nature and wildlife photography. The newly developed compact SWM (Silent Wave Motor) has given rise to an ultracompact, lightweight design with excellent handling characteristics. Including the new compact SWM, the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED measures a compact 68 x 79mm (2.7 x 3.1 in.) and weighs approximately 255g (9 oz.).

For optics, two ED glass elements achieve high resolution and contrast while minimizing chromatic aberration and other forms of distortion. The new compact SWM built into the lens offers the smooth and quiet autofocus performance that users have come to expect from our existing SWM.

By using this lens and the new AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED lens, photographers have a focal length range from wide-angle 18mm to telephoto 200mm (providing a picture angle equivalent to a 27-300mm lens in 35mm format), covering an extremely wide variety of subjects and shooting situations. The range of these ultracompact, lightweight lenses, combined with its high-quality performance, will expand the photographic horizons of Nikon Digital SLR owners. The AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED lens will be simultaneously released with the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED lens.

Note: This lens is not compatible with 35mm [135] or IX240 format film cameras.

Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens Features
