This is a pretty awesome all-purpose zoom lens that has worked great for me (being a beginner on a small budget). I wanted something that would cover all manner of projects - from portraits to real estate to low light. The cons are definitely in the auto focus and the lack of sharpness that comes from that...HOWEVER - it has been a wonderful day to day lens for me that has helped me gain the confidence I needed to start moving forward with more pricey equipment.

It is a nice compact camera, with brilliant quality on my D750! It is honestly my favorite lense!!

I had an old lens on my Nikon D 50. Now, with this new lens, the camera is like having a new camera. I love this lens!

I purchased a refurbished lens and am very well pleased with it. It appeared to be brand new when I unboxed the lens. The auto focus is so quiet I had to double check to make sure it was working! The lens is very sharp and I have not noticed any problems with the quality of the images it produces. I use it with my D7100 which was also purchased refurbished.

Three years after I received this lens in a D3100 kit it continues to perform very well. It is a general workhorse I use for hundreds of web portraits, small product shoots, 16x20 inch wall portraits and artistic images.

First it wouldn't focus right then the inner workings of the lens started rattling , then it broke altogether. Very poorly made.

This is the kit lens that came with my D60. I was more than happy with it in the first couple of years until I bought the AF-S DX Nikkor 35 mm f/1.8 lens. Then I knew what I was missing in terms of sharpness and the ability to take pictures in low light. Now I don't consider it a good lens at all, but it is a great choice for those who are on a tight budget and those who are picking up photography as a new hobby. Also for travelers, it has light weight and has a decent range.

I bought it to replace the factory lens which broke. Everything works and looks exactly the same as the original. My only issue was when I first attached it, my camera wouldn't recognize the af-s until I restarted the camera a few times. Might have been my camera but it works like a charm now. If I had to say, better than the stock lens.

I use this lense for general shooting. While I like photography, I am really an un-gifted amature and I will never learn it all. However, this lense is fantastic for taking pictures of the things I like to shoot. My backyard is full of interesting critters, snakes, liserts, squirles, insects, and birds that fly in. In addition my wife has planted flowering plants and their blossoms are very beautiful this time of the year. This lense is an important adjunct to my kind of photography and it helps me to capture my world.

I bought this lens and took it to a rally race with me and it did everything I could have asked of it. For a kit lens this thing is amazing. 100 dollars and this quality of lens is mind blowing. I do not have any complaints as of yet and I have taken 800~ pictures with it so far.

I'm fairly new to photography, and this lens was recommended by my photography "mentor." It works very well for portrait photography and is great as my first lens. The outdoor pictures are beautiful, but I can still take nice indoor photos as well. The bokeh is also very nice. It'll definitely be in my photography toolkit for a long time.

Wish I would have got the model with the vibration reduction. But love the lens

This lens is great for when you need to get a shot and it is too close for the 75-300mm lens to capture. I use it with a wide angle lens attachment for large group photos also. The auto focus feature is great and quick, good pictures everytime. I am not a professional but I recommend this lens.

I am handicapped and the weight of my kit is extremely important. Anything that doesn't prove useful is gone in short order. This lens is an impressive blend of price, size, weight and performance. I don't use it a lot but its good enough to have found a permanent place in my "always carry" kit. It may not be as durable as some other items in the Nikon line, but I recommend it as a fine value for any amateur photographer.

I love this lens! It came with my D3100 Camera, and it is great for general shooting. I've heard complaints about the Macro and low-light conditions, but it isn't for those purposes first of all, but I think they are pretty stinking good for the price. It is a great lens for beginners, like me.

I purchased this lens as a replacement to the original one that came with my camera. I fell & hit my old lens on the hardwood floor, but it worked for a year even after I broke it! This one is the exact same lens. I am completely happy with it & would buy it again if I needed to. It is a great overall lens. It doesn't have a real powerful zoom but it's great for everyday type shots.

Exactly what I ordered. Goes great with my 55-200mm lens.

Found one of these on the floor and behind a desk of the newsroom of a near-bankrupt publication I got a job with. It works relatively well, even though it's horribly dirty and I've even dropped it five feet onto a concrete floor while changing lenses. For a half-busted (the zoom gives me resistance now since dropping it like an idiot), dirty, inexpensive lens, it has done remarkably well and stays in my camera bag for those need-to-get, last ditch wide-angle shots. The fact that it comes in most starter kits makes them ubiquitous too. Every reporter who shoots Nikon should have one of these things.

A lente é leve. Como primeira lente me atende perfeitamente.

The lens delivered good images with consistent results, as long as you understand its limitations. Cons include slow focusing, loud focusing/shutter and some vignetting.

Can't beat it for the price. Grey market item came in an actual Nikon box, so I can't really complain in any way.

I've been using this lens as my general purpose lens for my D80 for about three years now. I love this lens! It's been problem free and it shoots great pictures, free of distortion and true to the subject.

Okay, so you’ve already read my article on my iPhoneography kit (if not, read it here) but let’s be honest – sometimes, despite its convenience, the iPhone camera simply cannot provide the type of photographs that you’re looking...
Great lens!!

My 18-55 came as part of my D40 kit. I must've gotten a fantastic copy of the lens b/c I've never had issued with this lens when used within its range. Of course I have trouble w/autofocus when in low light. It's not a meant for extremely low light. It IS however an amazingly fast lens that takes crisp, clear pictures. I've grabbed awesome

Three years after I received this lens in a D3100 kit it continues to perform very well. It is a general workhorse I use for hundreds of web portraits, small product shoots, 16x20 inch wall portraits and artistic images.
An ultracompact, lightweight standard zoom lens with a 3x focal range that is ideal for everyday photography, offers a remarkable cost-to-performance ratio and features optics optimized for use with Nikon digital SLRs. It is ideally suited to the new Nikon D50.
The lens offers users the popular 18-55mm focal length range, which conveniently covers everything from tight indoor portraits to standard snap shots. (The picture angle is equivalent to a 27-82.5mm lens in 35mm format.) The newly developed compact SWM (Silent Wave Motor) has given rise to an ultracompact lightweight design that offers excellent handling characteristics. Including thenew SWM, the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED measures a compact 69 x 74mm (2.7 x 2.9 in.) and weighs approximately 210g (6.8 oz.).
For optics, one ED glass element and one hybrid aspherical lens element guarantee high-resolution, high-contrast images while minimizing chromatic aberration, astigmatism and other forms of distortion. The new SWM built into the lens offers the smooth and quiet autofocus performance that users have come to expect from our existing SWM.
By using this lens and the new AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED lens, photographers have a focal-length range from wide-angle 18mm to telephoto 200mm (equivalent to a 27-300mm lens in 35mm format) that is well-suited to a wide variety of shooting situations. The useful range and high-quality performance ofthis lens will expand the photographic horizons of Nikon Digital SLR owners. The AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED lens will be simultaneously released with the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED lens
Note: This lens is not compatible with 35mm [135] or IX240 format film cameras.
