I upgraded to this camera from a PEN-EPL5 and boy was it worth it! I still love the PEN camera for it's compactness, but the features on the Mark II are so impressive. I've been playing around with different lenses and situations, and I think if I used this camera every day for a year I still wouldn't know about all the things it can do. I've used it for portraits, macro, landscape and street photography and really enjoyed it in all of these settings. And it does all of this while still managing to be relatively compact and easy to carry. It's just hefty enough to help me balance it well, but doesn't cause neck strain if walking around with it. While I know it's no longer the newest E-M1 camera, if you're looking to upgrade your M4/3 system (or switch to M4/3) on a smaller budget, this is your camera!

Unless you do a lot of low light photography, this is a great camera. But the reason I bought this was the weather sealing for bird photography. I love this camera. Can't wait to get my hands on thw 100 to 400mm lens to go with it.

I could not find a negative review that one could take seriously about this camera. This camera has far exceeded my expectations for a video camera, which is why I bought it. This isn't to say that the photos aren't great as well but if taking photos is your main objective then there are better options. I love the autofocus and I love the fully articulated screen. Both make vlogging a whole lot easier. I waited until the last minute of the sale when it was going for $849/body only. I bought an autofocus zoom lens separately for $100 which was also on sale for $100 off. Both were a great bargain.

Wonderful camera. The price fell because the Mark III came out, which makes this purchase a steal.

It has been a joy to work with this camera. Shortly after receiving the camera, I looked for youtube videos and found Robin Wong videos on the OMD E M1 MarkII. He has many videos from shooting in low light to what makes your camera slow. The videos explain how to use some of the features and what is best way to setup your camera in different situations. He offers tips and tricks as well and suggest certain ways to shoot with the camera. The pic I shot with the camera was from across the boat and had to react quickly to capture the shot. This pic is only cropped, nothing else done with it, though it need some basic editing, the camera stabilization was good enough to allow me to capture the shot while the boat was bouncing around in the water. I receive the camera just on time for my vacation, I was able to capture a few good pics of whales even with the kits lens 12-200. The lens a good all round lens but does best in sunny days it is not the best for night shots. Best to use a lens where the f-stop is 4.0 or 2.8 all the way throughout the aperture. Make sure to catch up on the Robin Wong videos which there are many to help you on your settings for capturing quick shots. He also has other videos for setting exposure and much more. The color on the pics are awesome once the camera is set up properly. You do have the option to set a custom white balance if you have something like a x-rite colorchecher card or possibly a white sheet of paper, though I haven't tested it out with a plain white sheet of paper I would recommend this camera as it is much lighter than DSLRs and the easier to handle. Your hand does not get tired as much especially when using the larger lens as the weight is almost a quarter less than the DSLR with the bigger lenses. The speed of this camera is quick and the stabilization on this camera is outrages as it help me to get some good shoots while on a boat that moved up and down a lot in the ocean.

The best move I've ever made. The camera is everything it's billed up to be. I've been able to take outstanding low light pictures.

I have been happy enough with my E-M10 Mark II though I found it a bit too small and added an L-bracket to make it easier for me to hold. The E-M1 Mark II took care of that. It is bigger enough over the E-M10ii that the ergonomics seem ideal for my hands. Even though my pinky hangs off the bottom I have found it a good stabilizing force. Autofocus is superfast and accurate and the 20MP - four more than the E-M10ii make a noticeable difference for higher ISO photos. It is very easy to hold and all my lenses work perfectly on it.

The OM1-MK II is a rugged, fast, and utterly reliable workhorse of a camera. Firmware updates have made an already great camera better. Add in Olympus’s excellent color rendition and the lightweight lenses and this camera remains a winner.

Great Camera, very impressive build quality and lots of flexibility. Takes a bit of time to get use to the menu but with the touch GUI back it makes things a lot easier.

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 II has met and has exceeded all of my expectations. I moved to this system after shooting with Full Frame cameras for close to twenty years. The sensor in the camera is very good, and captures more than enough detail, while the dynamic range capabilities are also stellar. Don't let Micro Four Thirds detractors tell you that this system is not capable because it is. The features of the camera are excellent. The live composition is awesome, the high res modes are great, the flippy screen is excellent and the IBIS is the best in the business.

I bought my first digital camera at Adorama Camera, with accessories. This new camera I ordered on the phone. Stanley K. He a answered all my questions. Adorama sent me an E-mail with all shipping info. The camera arrived the next day, I own the previous model and am very satisfied with this product. Adorama is the place for all your Photography needs.

This is literally the top of what M43's can do in the realm of photos. I'm hesitant to ever want to move up to a larger sensor size because this camera has so many features not found in Full Frame cameras. The composite shooting modes are awesome. People wonder how I get lighting photos so easily. The stabilization is actually almost eerie in how well it works. I know Olympus is coming out with a new more expensive camera with a few additional features but I have zero interest. This the most I will ever want from a M43 camera.

Excelente camera with a lot of features.. photos are awesome. The only problem is that the menu is complicate to navigate but there are a lot youtube videos for that. Highly recommended if you want a hi end equipment with a lot of customization.

I had listened to many say the Mark II wasn't much different than the original E-M1 so I had never upgraded. Well, it is different and much better than the MKI. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm much happier with the images from the MK II. If you are on the fence, don't be. It's worth it.

I bought this EM1-MII to replace my older Olympus E-3. It has been awesome so far, as I just had it for less than a month. Because I still wanted to use my older Zuiko lens 12/60mm Pro, I also purchased the micro adapter to make this work. So far, the focus has been very good/fast, but then again, I've only tested by shooting portraits and macro. I will test out some sports shooting soon to see how fast the focus will be with the adapter. There are tons of features to select from the menu so it will take me a little time to understand and use them. As of right now, I really enjoy this camera and most importantly, I can still use my old Zuiko lenses thanks to the adapter.

A huge step up from EM1 mark1 (still like it). Now have the option to use both cameras. Mark II is quicker and has more updates. I started to enjoy using it from the first day; always take the camera with me. The only small down mark for me is charging the battery - still old "school" whereas other brands started long ago to use USB cable.

I tried both the OM-D E-M1 Mark II and Mark I and I must say, these two cameras are to die for (of course, in my opinion). I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a micro 4/3 system. I can't wait to get this for my daily when I sell my DSLR. Great product Olympus, just great!

This little camera is a powerhouse of performance with very few negatives. First off, image quality is great. It’s easily as good as my Canon 7D Mark II, with the added bonus of the files seeming more malleable in post without falling apart. The FPS is crazy fast for a stills camera and rolling shutter is extremely well controlled, so the electronic shutter is actually useable in most situations. Ergonomics are great and batteries last a long time, so that mirrorless hassle is no longer relevant with this model. Video quality is great as well, but I’m primarily a stills shooter so take that into account. The S-AF is incredibly fast and face tracking also works really well. I don’t think C-AF is quite there yet, in comparison to other similarly priced models like the 7D2, 5D3, or Sony A7III (I own/have owned all of these). It’s good enough for most situations and they’ve already improved it once via firmware updates, so it only gets better with time. That said, I’ve successfully shot softball games with it and it did fine. It’s also highly customizable, with plenty of custom buttons and an assignable switch. Finally, the weather sealing and IBIS of the E-M1 II is incredible and second to no other camera I know of, simply amazing. So what do I not like about it? Just a few nitpicks really. The C-AF, as I mentioned before, could be better... but I’m comparing it to my experience with some top-end performers. The menu system is a con for some, but I haven’t found it to be bad at all. It’s certainly better than the menu in my Sony A7III, but maybe not quite as user friendly as Canon. Finally, probably the only real issue I have with it is the loss of extreme shallow depth of field on larger sensor cameras. You can still achieve it with micro four-thirds cameras, it just takes an awareness of how it renders for a given f-stop and compensating for that. For those who aren’t aware, the DoF doubles for a given 35mm equivalent mm/aperture on a micro four thirds camera as compared to full frame. So if you shoot at 200mm f/2.8 you get the same DoF as 200mm f/5.6 on full frame (the actual exposure value isn’t affected). This has been addressed somewhat since Olympus announced a whole line of f/1.2 PRO primes, and their premium line of f/1.8 glass is extremely good as well. As an additional thought, Olympus premium and PRO lenses are amazingly good. I own the 12-40 PRO, 40-150 PRO, 17 1.8, 45 1.8, and 75 1.8 and they’re all stellar, and the non-premium 9-14mm zoom is still pretty darn good too. My wife has the 14-42EZ and 40-150 (non-PRO) for her E-M10 II and they perform really well for budget “slow” lenses. Add on the Godox/Flashpoint lighting support for Olympus and you have a real pro quality system in a tiny package.

After purchasing this fantastic camera, we decided to test it's capabilities at the Myrtle Beach Air Show, where the Blue Angels were to perform. These planes are fast and you need a fast camera to keep up. It met all the demands we made of it and all I can say is, I need to develop my own skills to even begin to fully utilize the features on this camera. I will attach a photo to show everyone what I mean about fast. Keep up the good work Adorama of making dreams come true for not just professionals but hobbyists as well. Special thanks to Daniel Brenkler for fabulous support.

Caution! This is a computer with a lens. Incredible photos, incredible image stabilization system. Pretty much every button on it is customizable. Pro lenses are also incredible. Been using it with 300mm and also with 300mm and 1.4 extender for bird photography, that's like 800mm . . . and that's handheld . . . . incredible, incredible, incredible! Appears complicated at first to understand, but once you've gotten oriented to how the menus are arranged and what you can do with it . . . . WOW!

Certainly the best camera at it's price point... likely the best at higher price points too. Light, fast and intuitive. It has a good menu system AND enough buttons you don't need the menu much. Definitely my favourite camera, it just gets better as I learn it's many functions. The lens selection is excellent as is the quality of the glass.

Absolutely Amazing. After shooting with 2 Canon APS-C cameras for over 10 years I decided to try M 4/3. This M1 MKII is unbelievable in low light, blazing fast speed, and extras. So worth the change.

I don't know if anyone will ever make the "perfect" camera, but Olympus has come pretty darn close with the EM1 Mk II. This little thing has great image quality, an incredible feature set, and it won't break your back carrying it around all day. First, my nitpicks with this camera. After coming from Canon's 5D3 and 7D2, I'm used to highly customizable top-notch AF. The E-M1 Mk II has excellent AF, but at this point it's not quite to that level IMO. Of course, this could probably be remedied with firmware and more experience on my part with the new body. My main gripe is that there is no "small" AF point anymore. My wife's E-M10 II has it, the original E-M1 has it... so why is it missing in the E-M1 Mk II? Maybe there's some technical issue, but it's a big oversight from Olympus. Second, the tracking is good, but isn't quite as advanced as Canon's, but that's to be expected I suppose. I haven't put the Olympus through a ton of AF tracking testing, but with my daughter's softball season starting up now, it'll soon get a workout. My only other gripe is that I've only had this camera for a few months now, and the paint is already starting to show some brassing. I've never had this issue with any camera I've ever had in the past, so it'll be interesting to see how well the finish holds up over time. Of course, a little missing paint doesn't affect performance in any way. So why did I look into the E-M1 II in the first place? I've been shooing general photography, kids sports, weddings, and senior portraits with Canon DLSR's for going on 10 years, and I've got a roller case full of L's and other great lenses for them... but it was just getting to be too much to haul a ton of gear around all the time, especially once you add in lighting. I started hearing about mirrorless from some friends and one day walked into my local Best Buy to buy a Sony alpha to see how amazing it was. Well, it wasn't for me. I started walking out of the store and happened to pass by the Olympus section, so I picked up an OM-D and fell in love with it. The layout was intuitive (unlike Sony) and with them being MFT, even the PRO lenses were much smaller than their FF equivalents as well. I've compared the EM-1 Mk II (with Oly's 12-40 PRO, 40-150 PRO, 1.4x TC, 17 1.8, 45 1.8, and the 9-18mm) to my 5D Mark III and 7D Mark II (with Tamron 24-70 VC, Canon's 70-200 2.8 IS II, 300 2.8L IS, 85L II, 50 1.4, and 17-35L), and the image quality and ease of high ISO noise cleanup amazed me. I've heard horrible stories about MFT being noise monsters and that's certainly not the case with these newer sensors. Sure, they'll probably always lag a bit behind FF, but they're certainly more than adequate for most needs. While looking at a selection of images, it's really hard to tell which ones are from which camera! Sure the FF has a bit less DOF and a bit smoother bokeh for a similar angle of view, but the MFT is no slouch. I'm extremely pleased with the performance I'm getting out of this tiny little package.

Awesome camera in a small package!
By JOSHUA S.
Ergonomics are great and batteries last a long time, so that mirrorless hassle is no longer rele...

Break Free represents a lifestyle of expanded creativity, flexibility, and originality. Declare your freedom from heavy cameras, bulky lenses, and move into our lightweight portable system.
Olympus today released the second generation of its flagship mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera, the OM-D E-M1 Mark II, featuring significant improvement in performance, construction and autofocus accuracy.
The OM-D E-M1 Mark II is an advanced system of innovative technology and features designed to forever change your photography: up to 18 frames per second sequential shooting with precision C-AF Tracking, 121 Cross-Type On-Chip Phase Detection AF points, up to 5.5 shutter speed steps of compensation with powerful in-body image stabilization, plus a 50MP High-Res Shot Mode. It’s all enclosed in a lightweight magnesium alloy weatherproof body. Paired with the superior resolution of Olympus M.Zuiko PRO lenses, the E-M1 Mark II will deliver brilliant imagery that’s coveted by professionals everywhere.
Experience sequential shooting speeds that far surpass those of DSLR cameras. Using its advanced silent electronic shutter, the E-M1 Mark II captures 20 MP RAW image files at up to an astonishing 60 fps in S-AF Mode and 18 fps in C-AF Tracking Mode. Or, use the E-M1 Mark II’s high-speed mechanical shutter to shoot full resolution photos at a blazing 15 fps in S-AF Mode, far surpassing other cameras in its class.
The high-speed autofocus built into the E-M1 Mark II captures split-second moments with precision and ease. Its Dual FAST AF system boasts an outstanding 121 points of On-Chip Phase Detection plus Contrast Detection AF. Every point of On-Chip Phase Detection is cross-type, facilitating detection of vertical and horizontal lines for superior accuracy. Four AF Target Modes – All Point, Single Point, 9-Point Group, and 5-Point Cross – can be easily switched with a single button press. Plus, the new Subject Tracking Cluster Display lets you easily focus on moving subjects using the camera’s C-AF Tracking.
The 20 MP Live MOS Sensor delivers rich gradations and excellent image quality, and its anti-reflective AR Coating reduces flare directly on the sensor. The 50 MP High Res Shot combines 8 shots to generate a single ultra-high res image. With a double quad-core system and dedicated AF calculation circuit, the TruePic™ VIII Image Processor easily powers the blazing sequential shooting and autofocus speeds. 4K (3840x2160) and C4K (4096x2160) video capture with a max bit rate of up to 237 Mbps is ideal for video production. And in-body 5-Axis Image Stabilization provides up to 5.5 shutter speed steps of compensation for blur-free handheld shooting.
Capturing precise moments often proves to be difficult, especially when your subject is in motion. The E-M1 Mark II’s Pro Capture Mode ensures that you catch the exact moment you want without any lag. Pro Capture starts taking and buffering a running series of full resolution JPEG / RAW images as soon as you press the shutter release button halfway. Fully press the shutter button to instantly record an image plus up to 14 previous frames. Keep the shutter button fully depressed to continue shooting. With Pro Capture’s silent electronic shutter and high speed sequential shooting, you’ll capture once-in-a-lifetime images in no time.
Whether you’re taking to the streets, traveling the world, or working in the studio, the E-M1 Mark II is built to keep you capturing great shots without worrying about your gear. It's designed to be compact and lightweight, providing easy handheld shooting with more freedom. The metal body is hermetically sealed to be splashproof, dustproof, and freezeproof down to 14°F (-10°C), so you can take advantage of every photo opportunity. The new high-capacity Li-Ion battery enables more shots on single charge plus requires significantly less charging time. And the dual card slots make it easy to backup and manage your image files.
Silent Shutter Mode completely eliminates shutter noise and all electronic sounds, perfect for wildlife, concert halls, or other quiet environments. With the Live Composite and Live Bulb Modes, you’ll shoot beautiful nighttime compositions as you watch the image build up on the monitor, giving you full freedom of exposure adjustment. For incredible macro shots, Focus Bracketing and Stacking lets you take several photos of a subject and then stack them into a single image with edge-to-edge clarity.
