The quality of light you get from this is really good, especially for the price. 48" is pretty large but if you have the space, you'll be really happy with the results you can get from this. My biggest complaint is how much of a pain it is to put together. I often find that the rods get twisted when transporting in the included bag and even though they're in the correct position, I'm usually not able to straighten them out enough to extend the umbrella mechanism. Because of that, I have to constantly reassemble the soft box almost every time I use it and it's kind of an unwieldy mess due to its size. In my opinion, this kind of defeats the purpose of the "EZ lock" system. That being said, most of my use is in the field where time is often of the essence. If you're mostly working in the studio and don't often move from location to location, I think this is a great option. I'm probably going to explore another option with a less fiddly rod system but will hang onto this as a backup.

I purchased this mainly for product photography, and if I ever need a bit of extra power outdoors from one of my strobes. This particular 20" Deep Para gives about 2 more stops when used strictly as an open reflector (without any diffusion or the reflection plate)! These products are such high quality and so inexpensive, they're a no-brainer!!!

It is my first umbrella shaped modifier. I like the versatility. You can use it with just the silver interior, or you can add the inner and outer baffle/diffusion cloths. The set up and takedown is really easy as well. It's great as a directional modifier that has varying degrees of softness. I know there are comments out there about this not being a "true" parabolic umbrella. I can see why, now that I know more. But I do not regret this purchase.

My previous review was for the 48" version of this softbox and there is little variance in the review for the 28." I love this softbox for it's quality of light and versatility. Switching between bare buld and LED lighting and being able to use the same softbox is a dream. There are times that I want the lighting that a bare bulb or a diffused tube type lighting can provide and sometimes for the sake of just getting the job done with LED makes this the "go to" tool. Build quality is good and a brand that is gaining a strong reputation for quality and durability. Highly recommended

I have been looking for a long time for a softbox of this build quality and that would produce the soft even lighting that this box produces. I have read other reviews and watched tons of videos on this device and the consistent complaint is that it is difficult to assemble. Well for me, that just isn't true. The build quality, the accessories supplied with the device and the price has made this my new favorite toy. The light is soft and diffused wrapping the subject making it easier to work with. I mounted mine on one of my C-Stands because it is pretty large and because the weight is not evenly distributed. Once opened and locked I attach the speedring and then mount to the stand. Thay way I am not having to fuss with getting the slots on the speedring aligned and the softbox attached. Because of its size and the volume of space the must be illuminated, I recommend that you not try to use this with an shoe mount speed light. My recommendation is that a monolight is used and one with sufficient power to illuminate the whole box. I am using a Flashpoint Streaklight 360 and no reflector. The shot was captured with a Nikon D700 ISO 200, f/8 1/125th sec. A gray card was used to measure the light and to reduce the amount of post production work required. SLR have come a long way in the last 40 plus years but, I still use a gray card to balance the light in every scene. The lens is a Tamron 45mm f/1.8 Di VC. Great shallow depth of field I really like this box and it will probably replace my Chimera for my portrait work as the main light. I will remove the interior baffle to change the quality of the light and in other cases I will add the eggcrate to limit the light spill outside of the frame. Highly recommended.

I'm loving this for portraits. It comes with the grid and two diffusion panels, to adjust spread and crispness. You can also adjust the reflector plate inside, which affects spread. The possibilities are varied, but if you need more spread, choose a wider parabolic shape/curve, or save money with an umbrella. Setup and takedown are easy, and I feel confident about the longevity of the metal arms inside. I would recommend this softbox or similar to anyone. I prefer the round shape of this one over Glow's octagonal offerings. The shape of reflections in the eye are much more natural.

This is a monster light modifier, not only is it 48" wide but when they say deep, they mean deep. Ultimately it was too large for my space and I traded it in. But if you have the room and some weight/strength to push down to lock it in place, it's a great modifier.
