Fast wide close, and reasonably priced. Compact and light weight. Can't ask for much more. Perhaps it has issues in test scenarios, I haven't noticed them, but in real world use this is a great lens.

After two days of shooting with this lens, I have to admit that I'm impressed with the image quality. Pictures are clear and sharp. The lens is wide enough to get a good wide angle shot but not so wide that I can see my shoes when pointing the lens straight ahead.

I bought this lens and after using it for two days of photography, I have to say that I'm impressed. The view angle is wide enough for a good wide angle shot but not so wide that I can see my shoes when pointing straight ahead. The images are impressively crisp and detailed for the price.

This is the first lens I bought with my R8 and I couldn't be happier with it. It's very bright and crisp, and the close zooming is impressive!

Purchased this lens for low-light general photo and video on my R7 (where it acts as a 38.4mm full frame equivalent), and it has certainly delivered for that purpose. The weak corners are cropped out on APS-C, leaving behind sharp and colorful imagery throughout. It's quite silent for video work too, perhaps due to the "Slow Focus Transition" setting. The image quality is even great wide open at f/1.8, however I've found the chromatic aberration at this aperture can ruin certain high-contrast scenes (such as snowscapes with dark tree trunks) despite not being overly visible on the LCD/EVF. Stop down to f/2.8 or darker in such scenarios. Unfortunately, I found it awkward to use for macro thanks to the focus breathing, which is a shame as the colors and sharpness are great. The moving focal element can be awkward too, and feels fragile even if it isn't particularly. The lack of an included hood it very petty on Canon's part. For $300 during a refurbished sale, this lens was well worth the money, especially for a crop camera. As a bonus it looks quite nice aesthetically mounted on the R7 too.

Refurbished lens arrived quickly and in great condition. It was like new. Happy with the savings over buying new.
Canon's signature line of lenses is back with the 24mm 1.8. Experience a lighting fast F1.8 maximum aperture for full control over depth of field and bokeh, low-light shooting, and video recording, with fast and reliable autofocus. Minimize ghosting and flare and maximize image quality with UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass element, one aspheric element, and Canon SSC (Super Spectra Coating). This lightweight, compact lens makes for a large than life image you can only experience with Canon.
While compact and lightweight at just 270g, the RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens is a high-quality, versatile tool that significantly broadens your photographic and videographic capabilities within the EOS R System. This wide-angle, fixed focal length lens is perfect for capturing dramatic still images and offers a wide field of view for vlogging, all while maintaining a natural aesthetic.
The lens boasts a bright f/1.8 aperture, enhancing your ability to shoot in various light conditions and enabling you to create beautiful, soft backgrounds for your subjects. This feature is particularly beneficial for low-light shooting and video recording, with fast and reliable autofocus.
The RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens is equipped with built-in Optical Image Stabilization, providing up to 5.5 stops of shake correction, and up to 6.5 stops with coordinated IS. This feature significantly enhances your low-light shooting abilities, ensuring consistently sharp results and reducing the need for a tripod.
One of the standout features of this lens is its close-focusing capability. With a minimum focus distance of approximately 5.5 inches and a close-up magnification of 0.5x, this lens allows you to work intimately with subjects, capturing even the smallest details with stunning results.
The lens's optical design includes an aspheric element and an Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass element, ensuring high image quality from center to corner. Additionally, the Canon Super Spectra Coating minimizes ghosting and flare, further enhancing the overall image quality.
The RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens also incorporates a control ring on the lens barrel, allowing for direct adjustments to numerous settings including shutter speed, aperture, and exposure compensation. This feature, combined with Canon's stepping motor (STM) technology, ensures smooth, quiet autofocus during video recording, making this lens an excellent choice for multimedia content creation.
Finally, the lens's circular 9-blade aperture creates a pleasing bokeh effect, adding a visually appealing backdrop to your subjects. Whether you're capturing landscapes, architecture, interiors, or close-up shots, this durable and innovative lens is a reliable choice that can take your photography and videography to new heights.
