excellent optical performance in a small lightweight lens with good light collecting power. Fairly fast focussing, recommended as a standard 35mm lens.

I use this with my Tamron 24mm for family and street photography. Great lens with clear and bright images. The only criticism I have is the minimum distance which makes it limited up close. Defiantly a great prime lens

This is a standard 35mm lens work well on A7III. My copy has good sharpness. Clarity is pretty good but I wish Sony made a G version. Lens also works quite well with video and continuous focus.

Although I'm not happy with my camera image quality with any of the lens I've tryed, this little lens is actually good for it's price.

After damaging my 18-55 kit lens, I researched for a long time before deciding to buy this Prime lens. Its realyl fast, silent, small and produces some wonderful images with great Bokeh. I just need to improve my photography skills now to get the best out of it!

Waited a while for a lens to make me smile, cheap at the price and the results were more than nice. Shoots the best RAW files partnered with the ACR profiles.

I would recommend this lens to 90% of Sony photographers who want a 35mm lens. It's sharp, small, light and reasonably priced when compared to other options. It's always on my camera.

Fantastic for the price! For those that want to spend 2.5x more for the GM 35 1.4 I get it, but if you’re not shooting where you absolutely need 1.4, this totally suffices. Very happy.

Looking to fill the 35mm gap in my prime lineup, I contemplated the 35mm 1.4 GM at twice the price but figured at half the price I could test the 1.8 out to see if I liked the size before shelling out so much dough. After a few hundred landscape and portrait shots with this lens, I can't find any reason to upgrade. I love this lens, especially shooting in low light situations.

I absolutely love this lens. Super lightweight, compact and a joy to use. The sharpness is excellent edge to edge and focusing silent. I shoot weddings, and was missing this focal length as I have the 24mm 1.4 GM and 55mm 1.8 in this focal length area. I found the 24mm a little wide for family formals and the 55mm too to tight. This lens is perfect for the job and many other types of subjects. I’m also getting into video and having done a few test shoots it’s fast becoming the lens I’ll keep on my A7R4 for the job. Fast AF, silent and so lightweight. Love it!

It is a great lens, the autofocus is silent and fast, works great in low light situations, solidly built and light weight. On manual mode (my preferred) you can easily change settings via your camera as well as using the focus ring. This lens is versatile from a use perspective and will be apt for both professional and amateur photographers. If you are on-the-go, the automatic settings won’t fail you or if you are meticulous about taking shots you can work on your exposure settings to work on your composition. For those new to the Sony ecology, this would be a awesome starter lens if you are not into using kit lenses.

I am so glad I brought this lens. It is well built and the image quality is amazing as expected from a Sony Lens. I had a third party 35mm which I was not happy with so I bought this and the difference is like night and day. I mainly use it for video work. Used it for some youtube work and my wife's cooking channel and she is also happy with the quality this lens has brought. The focus hold button and auto to manual switch are some nice features. Photography has been excellent as well with the images being sharp. Bokeh is vry nice as well.

I use the prime lens on my A7Riii. It is fast, light and it is just what I was hoping it to be. I was suprised at how sharp it is. It’s sharper then 55mm F/1.8 Ziess. Great ultra fast and quiet lens offered by Sony. F/1.8 works extremely great in low light condition. Lightweight and well balanced on my A7Riii.
Extremely Sharp

Sold my Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 in favor of this lens. The Sigma was incredibly sharp wide open but in my tests the Sony is sharper wide open. The Sigma does have a little better bokeh due to 1.4 but not a deal breaker for me. I have come to find that native Sony lenses just perform better regardless of the situation and I don't mind sacrificing bokeh. This lens is on par sharpness wise with the sharpest lenses I have owned including the Zeiss 55mm 1.8 and Sigma Art 85mm 1.4. Highly recommended.
Sony adds to its E-mount line of full-frame lenses with the new Sony FE 35mm F/1.8 wide-angle prime lens. This new lens weighs 280 grams and has a compact 35mm focal length that covers a wide-angle perspective. It has a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture which can create images with a shallow depth of field and enables working under low-light conditions. It also has a 9-blade circular aperture for rendering aesthetically-pleasing bokeh, while its aspherical elements negate aberration to give you high-resolution images. This lens also has a linear autofocus motor and internal focus design which allows for quick, precise, and quiet autofocusing. Its dust and moisture-resistant build and compact design make the new Sony FE 35mm F/1.8 wide-angle prime lens a must-have for leisure and professional photographers alike.
The Sony E-mount full-frame lens series is getting a brand new addition. The newly-announced Sony FE 35mm F/1.8 wide-angle prime lens is the latest release that’s sure to delight landscape, food, and everyday photographers.
“Our E-mount lens lineup now includes 34 full-frame models and 52 lense....
The 35mm focal length is a perfect choice for everyday snapshots, food photography, landscapes, night scenes and more as the maximum F1.8 aperture opens up a world of beautiful prime-lens bokeh. The large F1.8 maximum aperture enables beautiful defocusing effects and enables massive amount of light for low-light or dimly lit shooting scenarios.
The 9-blade circular aperture maximizes the beauty captured by this large-aperture prime-lens, contributing to impressive images in which the subject stands out against a smoothly defocused background bokeh as well as naturally rendered points of defocused light.
The refined optical design includes an aspheric glass element which dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight. Field curvature is carefully corrected by this specially shaped aspherical lens to restore alignment of light rays at the image plane. Superior contrast is maintained across the entire image, even at large aperture settings, resulting in corner-to-corner sharpness.
Weighing in at only 9.9 oz. (280g) and measuring a mere Φ 2.58” x 2.87“ (Φ65.6mm x 73mm), the 35mm F1.8 is an ideal compact and lightweight everyday lens. Additionally, its compact dimensions make it an appealing choice for both Full-frame as well as APS-C bodies, offering a 52.5mm equivalent focal length on APS-C cameras.
The focus hold button not only performs its primary function to lock focus when recomposing, but can be customized to a number of other functions depending on your needs. In addition to Focus Hold, these custom functions include: Eye AF, AF On, Aperture Preview, Shot Result Preview or Bright Monitoring among others.
Get close-up with a minimum 8.66” focus distance and maximum 0.24x magnification for macro and other interesting shots.
A direct AF/MF switch on the lens barrel conveniently allows for fast selection between autofocus or manual focus without having to access any menus.
Linear Response manual focus (MF) allows for fine, responsive Manual Focus control, especially needed when shooting fine detail, close-up images or pulling critical focus while shooting in movie mode. Linear Response Manual Focus delivers predictable and repeatable manual focus control.
The overall length of the lens does not change when focusing which is especially important when using for video recording. Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance. Also, the filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient when using a polarizing filter.
The dust and moisture resistant1 design makes this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures.
