Great....but...

The extension head is a must have to take the weight off your stand, especially if you are using a boom stand. As others have noted the chord is too short. It should be about two feet longer. But it is what it is. Here's something to be aware of. I was surprised when I mounted the remote headand when I turned on the flash the fan in the head started whirring away right at startup and is fairly loud.I was not even using the flash yet, it was just powered on. When running without the remote head the main unit fan only comes on with the modeling light or after several successive high power flashes which is the way it should be. The remote head the fan is always on because this unit came shipped with firmware version 1.06 which is not the latest. Not ideal. After researching this on the internet, there is a solution but you'll get very little help with this from Adorama or Godox. It took me a few days and several hours to figure it out and fix it. There is an updated firmware which is version 1.07 but you can't get it from Adorama for some reason. The latest on the Adorama site as of today (Jan 15, 2024) is version 1.06, you have to go to Godox who makes this unit. Since I use a Mac, I had to use the G3 installer (called F3 installer for Flashpoint) and download the 1.07 firmware from Godox for their version of the 600PRO II. You can skip all the instructions on the Flashpoint firmware page for installing on Windows PC. None of it applies. Just unzip the G3 installer and bypass the Mac security window to install it. Yes, this is safe. Unlike the Windows version, the firmware version 1.07 is NOT a .dfu file as described in the tutorial. For this flash on a Mac, you will instead have a .bin file which DOES NOT need to be extracted. When using the installer just select the .bin file. You DO have to follow the instructions to remove the battery from the flash. AND you DO have to use a powered HUB to connect between the Mac and the flash. The Mac port will not supply enough power to power the flash for the firmware upgrade. Now the upgrade will install correctly and once done the extension head fan only turns on while using the modeling light. The way it should have worked all along. Flashpoint was horrible when I emailed them. I received no reply. The documentation on how to do upgrades on a Mac is non existent. Godox documentation leave a lot to be desired so it took a lot of guess work to figure this all out. But rest assured the Godox installer and driver is the exact same as the Flashpoint and it works perfectly. I hope this helps some of you save time and frustration

The Best Accessory To Have

I feel this is a must-have accessory to this portable strobe light. I have taken this out to dozens of outdoor crowded public events and not yet had my light stand knocked over or get blown over to date. Even with a 44" Para-Snap light modifier. It is very important to lower the center of gravity. I have not had to use a sandbag since.

Borderline mandatory purchase with the XP600 Pro, and WORTH IT.

The XP600Pro is an amazing unit, but this takes it to the next level. A clever photographer will use something like a Kupo 3 or 4-way Clamp to mount the unit low on their stands, and boom this light extension head out with their favorite modifier. The unit will give your stand stability, the extension head will give you flexibility. The design and quality of the extension flash-head is right up there with the XP600Pro's construction. You barely lose any power from the head, and gain so much space on-set. I love being able to move and shoot under a boomed light.

Good but 6ft is barely an extension for professional use. Better than nothing.

This extension head is fine although by now they shouldve found a way to make it longer, lighter and more compact. I tried extending this head to around 10ft high and ideally want the mono block mounted as low as possible to the stand but nope its going to be more like mid level not help stabilize the stand. I hope they make a 12 ft long version and also revive the double connectors to combine two xplor600pro together to output 1200ws.

Best way to boom the 600Pro

I do boom my main light often and this allows me to use a lot less counterweight while having the power of the 600pro 7 or more feet in the air. The other bonus is if I forget to turn on my light before I get it up high, the controls are within reach now.

The Flashpoint XP600 Pro is a must-buy for photographers doing outdoor pictorials.

I am an outdoor portrait photographer. In my pictorials, I am consistently challenged by the elements, from the beach to mountains, waves, wind, and snow are just a few that I must contend with. The Flashpoint XP600 Pro Portable 600ws Extension Flash Head enables me to put the AD600 Pro on the lower part of the light stand. This makes the light stands top-light and bottom-heavy, which makes them less prone to wind gusts, therefore, less likely to topple down. There is no longer a need to carry sandbags to stabilize the light stands, resulting in fewer things to bring during a photo session. All three of my AD600 Pro have XP600 Pro Extension Flash Heads.

Great way to put your strobe a pie without worrying about it falling over

Works great when you want to put a strobe high in the air without having the unit all the way up at the top. Less likely to tip over. Would not use a large soft box with this as it will not be balanced well.

Turns your mono to a pack & head - great for booming and angling

Love this. I've got one, and might go for a second. I pair this with a Manfrotto superclamp and 4" stud to hang the strobe body on the stand column, while booming this head. Technically you can get away without using a sandbag or pumpkin (but the BOA bags are great if you want to drag a bag on location).

Essential addition to a great strobe

Excellent addition to a great strobe. This enabled me to do a whole day job with the modeling lamp on all day without any worry about battery life. It makes the 600 Pro very versatile!

A must for location work.

In my view pretty much essential for the monster 600 Pro when on location. Would not be needed for studio work, unless would wanted the ability to p[lace light on boom arm.

Great lightweight extension

This is a great lightweight extension, so that I can place a strobe at the end of a boom over my subject, with less worry that the whole light stand is out of balance.

Flashpoint 600 extension flash head.

This head is great. It is light enough to allow the light to be handheld, or extended overhead on stand beams without creating weight overloads. Especially if the 600 pro is used as a counter weight. It has really simplified getting lights into hard to reach positions. I also have one for my Flashpoint 600 Explor. Cord could be a little longer than 6 ft., but that is the only possible downside.

Essential accessory for working with the XPLOR 600 Pro

OVERALL: I already own two of the original XPLOR 600 lights and have the FlashHead Extension for both of them. I just bought the 600 Pro and the upgraded extension (the older extension is not compatible with the Pro). I find the extension to be an absolute necessity when using soft boxes or any heavy modifier on my lights. It also makes it possible for the light to be mounted on a light pole and held by a grip/assistant -great for location shooting. While I'm impressed with the improvements made to the new extension, at more than double the price of the original (triple if you get the shoulder bag... more on that later), I'm not as convinced about the value. PROS: 1. Build quality is very good. The head unit feels solid and should take a moderate amount of abuse. The head is about 2 inches longer than its' predecessor, and the cable is noticeably thicker. Just like the body of the 600 Pro, the mounting bracket is made of metal and the tilt lock features smooth action, an improvement over the plastic bracket and ratcheted action of the non-pro version. 2. At the other end of the cable, the redesigned plug that attaches the cable to the XPLOR body is now larger and protects the contact pins from being damaged. The non-pro version leaves the pins exposed, and while sturdy, they could be damaged in handling/transport. 3. Another nice feature is that you no longer need an adapter ring to lock the plug into the body. The plug now locks directly into the Bowens mount, which makes setting up the extension slightly easier and faster. 5. The head now features a very robust heat-sink and internal fan. The fan does make some noise and you'll hear it kick in especially if you use the modeling lamp. 6. Compared to the non-pro version the Pro extension is more efficient and you won't lose as much power being sent from the body. The tradeoff here is that the cable is only 6 feet long which nearly 2 feet shorter than the non-pro. 6. Just like the body of the 600 Pro, the internal LED modeling lamp is much brighter than the non-pro version. CONS: 1. It's bulkier for transport if you leave the bulb on the head. This is mainly because the reflector unit and cap from the body are used to cover and protect the bulb instead of the smaller dedicated cap from the non-pro unit. 2. I was a bit shocked to find that the Pro version did not come with the shoulder bag that was included when purchasing the non-pro version. The shoulder bag really is a necessity in most situations when using the extension (which I'm almost always doing when using the XPLOR lights). The shoulder bag can be used by an assistant when carrying the light, and can even serve as a counterbalance on a boom arm. CONCLUSION: If you are going to use the XPLOR 600 Pro, you need to seriously consider the extension for both convenience and safety reasons. It's more expensive than the non-pro version, but the upgrades are substantial. Is it a good value compared to the non-pro version? If you already have the XPLOR 600 Pro light, then it doesn't really matter because the non-pro version is incompatible and you have no choice. Compared to Profoto or even the Baja lights by Dynalite, well they don't even offer an extension solution as far as I know. If you are deciding between whether to purchase the XPLOR Pro vs. non Pro, I'd have to say that the non pro version is still a very good light at pretty much half the price of the Pro. At the time of this review, the cost of an XPLOR 600 Pro combined with this extension will run around $848. The shoulder bag is an additional $22. The non pro equivalent is $472.

Needed

I put this head through a pretty heavy four day catalog shoot. Mainly on location, to alleviate the weight of the full head while on location. It preformed overall very well. I discovered two issues: the head overheated at some point in the afternoon ( modeling lite OFF) I sensed the fan on the extension head is limited. I was not bursting but consistent approx 10shots every 1.5-2seconds; It was a cooler day in California and no direct sun... I also discovered do not put the main pack back in its bag while in use ( my thinking was to protect the head on location, zipped in its bag and hung on a C stand or shoulder of an assistant (that head needs the air flow and hung on its own) otherwise success so far )

New design and more compact

The newly design with the build in handle to make adjustment of head position much easier. The only drawback is that I wish they have the 1200W version similar to the 600ttl which could connect to power heads.

Good, not the original

This piece is a big help when you boom your lights. Well built and smooth adjustments. They decided to drop what’s got to be close to a foot off the extension cord, which is a huge mistake. Makes booming more difficult as will no longer reach the back boom hook, so you hang it on the stand. Still a good product, just poor thinking and design.

Excellent Solution!

Perfect solution to keep the weight at the top of the light stand to a minimum. The added weight of the power pack at the bottom of the stand increases stabilty and give me peace of mind.

Makes the Xplor 600 pro SO much more useful

By Marek K.

The AD600 pro is already an incredible strobe, but it's a bit heavy for location use. Booming it overhead with a large modifier is nearly impossible without some crazy heavy super duty stands which are not practical for quick paced location portraiture. With the extension head you can use any light duty stand just fine and have someone sling the strobe around their shoulder in a bag. Makes it so much more portable and usable. I haven't measured for power loss from the cable yet but to my ey...

The Flashpoint XPLOR 600Pro TTL 600ws six foot extension head transforms the new XPLOR 600Pro series monolight into a boom friendly powerhouse, perfect for use with softboxes or as a gridded hair light. Connects directly to any XPLOR by unplugging the glass shielded flashtube from the XPLOR monolight body, locking the pronged cable link in place and then inserting the original flashtube on the head extension sockets. The lightweight remote head is then acting as an extension cord between the strobe and remote flash tube, efficiently enabling remote, difficult to place precise lighting. The extension head has a built-in LED modeling lamp, just like the 600 Pro. You don't give up the convenience of an umbrella holder, a free moving 180 degree tilt lock, and handle, and all popular Bowens S-type mount light modifiers that fit directly on this monolight extension head.

Makes the XPLOR 600Pro TTL even more!
