There are no instructions packed with the item to tell you how to open it. You can probably guess but I was fearful of damaging the "splines" if I didn't open it properly. A phone call to Godox didn't help (agent promised to send a video but never did). However, a quick perusal of youtube provides you with the basics, and it's not at all complicated after all. However, one of those youtube videos gave the best advice: once you get the "splines" aligned enough to fully open the lantern the first time, let it sit for a day or two and on subsequent openings, the splines will very easily expand as they should without interfering with one another. Gave it only 3 stars because of the poor support from Godox and the lack of a simple quick start guide or registration/warranty papers, etc.

It is big, easy to setup. I would recommend this modifier just be sure you need this size, if not go smaller.

So far I like it. Given another chance I would of bought the size 1 smaller. Give off good light but am using it for large room on Real Estate shoots and it is a little much on the end of a 600 handheld strobe. Well built and easy to set up.
