This camera is amazing! Well worth the sub-thousand price if you need pure quality! And if you're wondering, yes I would pit this against the newest rebels and T#i's. There's truly a certain quality that just screams out professional. One bad thing about this camera is that once you try it, you aren't going to go down the chain so to speak. It's going to be the 1D line and nothing else. Or if you're me it's strictly the 1Ds line. Fortunately with this quality I won't be upgrading my camera for a LONG time to come.

OK sure, this is an old camera. LCD screen is poor, anything much over ISO 640 is noisy. BUT the image quality and focusing abilities of this camera are amazing. I have a new 7D but still end up using this camera 75% of the time.

Perfect for journalists, studio and wedding photographers, or anyone who wants the highest possible resolution from their digital SLR, the EOS-1Ds sets a new standard, raising the bar on image quality while retaining EOS performance. Withan 11.1 million pixel full-frame CMOS sensor, the EOS-1Ds is the first Canon digital SLR to use the entire line of Canon autofocus lenses without a conversion factor, making for no compromise wide-angle photography, and tremendous image files.
The EOS-1Ds has outstanding performance features such asfast 45-point AF, 3 fps for 10 consecutive frames, a 5-mode 21-zone metering systems, 10 modes of white balance and 5 modes of color options. It is capable of simultaneous RAW and JPEG recording, utilizes Canon's advanced flash technologies, including E-TTL wireless autoflash, and comes bundled with powerful new software utilities for both Mac OS and Windows.
The EOS-1Ds advantage begins with a full-frame CMOS sensor - developed and manufactured by Canon - with an imaging area of 24 x 36mm, the same dimensions used by full-frame 35mm SLRs. Finally, every EF lens will work the same on a digital SLR as it does on your 35mm film cameras, with the same coverage. Even for wide-angle shooters.
The CMOS sensor of the EOS-1Ds has 11.1 million effective pixels with a maximum resolution of 4,064 x 2,704 pixels. This almost doubles the resolution currentlyconsidered state-of-the-art by most professionals, resulting in a quantum leap in digital image quality.
The EOD-1Ds's imaging engine is one of the keys to its exceptional speed and image quality. This advanced "chip" processes image data to achieve the same color accuracy and wide tonal range as the high quality slide films often favored by professionals. And even with almost twice the pixel resolution of previous pro cameras, it still supports a 10-frame buffer memory at framing rates up to 3 fps!
3 fps continuous shooting for up to 10 shots, even at the highest quality setting, is made possible by the speedy data reading of the CMOS sensor and the rapid image processing of the high-performance imaging engine. The EOS-1Ds delivers all the strength, responsiveness, and versatility you expect from Canon.
The Area AF system offers a 45-point Area AF for framing freedom and reliable AFperformance. It also offes 45-point Manual, 11-point Manual, and 9-point Manual settings. Points are spread over an 8 x 15mm AF ellipse that covers a large partof the image.
Six metering options provide total exposure control in almost any situation. In addition to 21-zone Evaluative Metering, there is Center-weighted Metering, Central Partial Metering, Central Spot Metering, Focusing Point-linked Spot Metering and Canon's unique Multi-Spot metering - the EOS-1Ds can automatically average up to eight separate spot meter readings.
The EOS-1Ds has 21 Custom Functions, many similar to the EOS-1v film camera, some exclusive to Digital.
