I bought this lens for landscape and Milky Way photos. Sharp and fast from corner to corner. I wish that canon would make a <16mm f2 lens.

I'm very pleased with this lens. I've been wanting a fast wide prime for astrophotography for a long time. It would be awesome to have a wider lens at f/1.4 or f/1.8 but it would probably be huge! This VCM lens is such a perfect weight and size compared to the other RF L series primes that I would consider getting the 35mm and 50mm f/1.4 versions on size alone. I haven't used it extensively yet, but I did take it out for some astrophotography and the results were fantastic. I could limit the exposure time to 10 seconds to get pin point stars, while at f/1.4 and ISO 6400 I could still get brilliant colors out of the Milky Way. For astrophotography I don't think this lens has any competition. For all other purposes, the competition is steep. But given the video friendly features of this wide angle prime, I imagine it could fill an important niche. I only dabble in video so I can't insist upon it, but there's a lot to love about this lens. It should be no surprise by now that it does lean on digital lens corrections, as almost all RF lenses do, but not so heavily as to feel like you're being cheated. I think it's a great balance of high optical performance, digital correction, and perfect form factor. No color fringing. No coma aberrations on point source lights even in the extreme corners, uncorrected, wide open. Excellent sharpness! As a bonus, try Canon's neural network lens correction and noise reduction software! It's awesome!

Purchased lens about a month ago and have taken landscape and city pictures and really enjoy the lens. Optically very good corner to corner (using automatic corrections) and from wide open at f1.4, focuses quickly, light weight on camera (well balanced). All around excellent.

The RF20mm F1.4 L VCM is an entirely different L-series lens, targeting a wide range of still-image and video shooters, with a combination of strong wide-angle coverage, a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, and excellent optical design.
On a full frame camera this lens gives you a vivid wide-angle look which has for decades been used in landscape, street photography, architectural photography, and strong commercial imagery. On the video side, this lens really shines with a dedicated manual Iris ring, and a linear focus motor called a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) that is virtually silent.
The RF20mm F1.4 L VCM is part of a series of "hybrid" lenses that focus on video performance as much as still photography. One of these features is a change to how the focus system works. There is a Nano USM that controls the floating focus unit, and a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) that powers the primary rear focus unit. These focus motors are coordinated and work in tandem for incredible speed in near silence.
Thanks to the Canon RF lens mount, the RF20mm F1.4 L VCM lens offers great optical quality. Its optical design includes one Super UD element, two UD elements, and even BR optics (Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics) to minimize chromatic aberration. On top of that, this lens features the same dust- and water-resistance found on L-series lenses with seals around the Control ring, focus ring, zoom ring, operation panel, and lens mount.
RF20mm F1.4 L VCM lens features a manual iris control ring so you can smoothly change the aperture from f/1.4 to f/16 during video capture. Thanks to advancements in lens design, focus breathing on this lens is extremely minimal, and backlit images are sharp.
With a minimum focus distance of just under 7.9 inches, an f/1.4 maximum aperture, and a uniquely wide look you can capture some really compelling imagery that is sure to capture attention.
