Consider buying a new DSLR and getting it modified for astrophotography. No need with this one, it's full spectrum right out of the box. Yes you will need a UV/IR cut filter for daytime photography but it's a cheaper alternative than 'astro-mod' cameras.

This is a great product if you know how to use it. It really needs to be used with IR or UV pass filters. The lack of filtering in the sensor provides a pink-red cast which excludes its use for usual photography, unless you fit the lens with the right daylight filter. You have to remember that UV and IR light focus in a different plane before you wonder why things are out of focus. In other words, you need special knowledge to take advantage of it, but for what it does, it does it very well.

I always want to experiment with UVIR photography, never could find one with this quality at such a reasonable price. That is until Fujitsu IS Pro. A Nikon D200 shell with Fuji Pro inerd. I am extremely happy with my purchase.

The IS Pro renders color beautifully with IR/UV cut filters, and has IR capability for striking effects. A Fujicolor sensor with Nikon lenses is a solid combination for enhanced creativity

I bought this camera for its' IR capability and found it to be graet for conventional photography as well. Comparable to a Nikon D-200, but with better color rendition. Uses Nikon lenses, which is a real plus, but be prepared to spend extra on filters. An IR cut filter is necessary for conventional photographs.

Used for Landscapes, industrial and other found compositions. A strongpoint is that it can be used with all my Nikon lenses. It's long battery life and easy to use preview makes focus and composition a breeze. The IS PRO gives me the IR capability I always wanted.

Because the imaging sensors in digital camera are sensitive to more than visible light, some manufacturers place an infrared cut-off filter in front of the chip to block IR light from striking it and causing color balance problems.

The IS Pro utilizes Fujifilm's Super CCD Pro and Real Photo Processor Pro technology to see light from the ultraviolet (UV), visible and infrared (IR) portion of the spectrum (approx. 380nm - 1000nm). It also benefits from compatibility with Nikon F mount lenses and Nikon iTTL flash systems, making it a cost effective solution for law enforcement agencies that already have Nikon components. It also has a specially formulated protective CCD glass filter that was designed to help protect the Super CCD Pro from dust and general maintenance damage while maximizing its UV and IR gathering potential.
Live Preview Updates A New quick activate one-touch Live Image Preview (black and white) mode has been added that can be activated by pressing the "Display/Back" button for three seconds. This makes fast access to Live Preview mode much easier when used on forensic copy stand tables in dark room environments. Its Mirror Lock-Up and Shutter Delay features also aid in reducing image blur during long exposures. To further improve the process, the Live Image Preview can be digitally magnified and brightness adjusted to improve focusing accuracy or to compensate for light intensity. The video image can also be viewed on an NTSC/PAL monitor or on the PC over the camera's USB 2.0 connection directly from Fujifilm's optional HyperUtility HS-V3 software.
Bar Code Reading An optional IS Pro firmware upgrade supports in camera TIFF file formats in three re solutions. In addition, Fujifilm USA offered an optional Bar Code Scanner option that allows for alpha-numeric data read by the bar code reader directly into the IS Pro's image file as part of the EXIF header in JPEG, TIFF and RAW file formats. This data can later be recalled so that images are synched to databases using special software programs. Examples: Bar codes of driver's licenses, employee IDs, automotive VIN tags, credit cards, evidence tags, or any object with a bar code can be recorded directly to the camera. The same can also be accomplished with an RS232 magnetic card reader.
