Used Manfrotto Black Heavy Duty 3-Section Boom with 3071 Stand (#085B)

After giong through several average to "high quality" booms in our photography program (at a University) we wanted something that was truly high quality. This boom stand fits the bill as it is very study and very well built. Be aware that it is HUGE. With the super boom entirely put together, it is very tall/long. There are two problems though. First of all, but this price and given the weight of the stand/counter weight, it should be air cushioned. Second, it did not come with instructions, but it wasn't that hard to figure it out. What was hard was putting the super boom toghether because one of the pieces was not machined perfectly, and it had very tight tolerances. This boom would be PERFECT if the stand was air cushioned or spring loaded.

Manfrotto does it again. Killer design. This thing manages to be sturdy and yet not overly heavy at the same time. Locks into position beautifully. Never had any problems never had any complaints. Would purchase again. At the current price its an excellent value.

I always trey to buy the best I can afford. I have never been disappointed with a Manfrotto product and this stand is no exception. I bought it for location work and while it will work fine, it is a heavy duty monster! It breaks down very easily. I would definitely recommend this stand. It is well balanced - I like the ability to move the included weight on the shaft.

I'been using the cine stand with boom for 15 years, finally I decided to buy a second one because broadens my posibilities of controlling the light. Mainly I use it for create controled reflections on shiny surfaces on tabletop photography. Or for soft o hard effect light from behind the products or people.Or as a major diffuse source to control the contrast. Many times you need to place the light source over and centered and this stand does the job perfectly. The stand is well constructed. Without the casters and the boom is perfect for field work . Believe it or not but has no plastic parts, I hate plastic on light stands. Over the years I have not found cons, this is a well constructed stand. Very resistant. I'm happy, and looking for another one.
