With the Metabones Canon EF Lens to Micro Four Thirds T Smart Adapter Mark II in Matte Black, photographers and videographers can seamlessly integrate their Canon EF lenses with Micro Four Thirds cameras. This advanced adapter supports electronic communication between the lens and camera body, enabling features such as autofocus and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) on compatible camera models. It can be powered directly from the camera body or via an external 5V power source (not included), ensuring flexibility in various shooting conditions.
The adapter allows for precise iris and aperture control directly from the camera, offering smooth iris transitions with the latest Canon (2009+), Tamron (SP series 2013+), and Sigma (2016+) lenses. It supports image stabilization (IS) for lenses and is compatible with cameras featuring in-body image stabilization (IBIS), enhancing stability during handheld shooting.
For manual focus enthusiasts, the adapter supports electronic manual focusing, accommodating lenses like the EF 85/1.2L II and the discontinued EF 50/1.0L. It also provides EXIF data transmission, including focal length, aperture, and zoom range, and displays distance and zoom information with lenses that support these features.
The Metabones adapter is particularly beneficial for filmmakers, offering Cinema EOS lens support, including models like the CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 L. It enables autofocus, auto iris, and servo zoom functionalities, although some features may require external 5V power via a micro USB port. Additionally, it supports Panasonic Tele-Converters (DMW-TC14, DMW-TC20, and DMW-TC20A).
While the adapter offers extensive compatibility, there are some limitations. Autofocus may not function if the lens's maximum aperture, combined with any EF Extender or teleconverter, is smaller than f/8. Certain Tamron lenses may exhibit less accurate autofocus, and EF-mount lenses might produce audible clicks during autofocus and iris adjustments, which could be captured by the camera's built-in microphone. For video recording, using an external microphone is recommended. The adapter does not support focus stacking, focus bracketing, or in-camera corrections such as peripheral shading, chromatic aberration, and distortion.
The adapter's design includes a detachable tripod foot compatible with Arca Swiss, Markins, and Photo Clam ball heads, and features flocking to minimize internal reflections. A rubber gasket protects the MFT mount connection from dust and moisture, ensuring durability in various environments. It is compatible with all MFT mount cameras, including popular models like the G9II, GH7, GH6, GH5, OM-1, OM-D, Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, and JVC GY-LS300, and supports EF-S lenses.
This versatile adapter is compatible with a wide range of lenses, including Canon CN-E, EF, and EF-S series, Sigma Art and CINE lenses, Tamron SP and VC series, Tokina AT-X PRO, and more. However, certain lenses, such as the Tamron 70-300mm F/4-5.6 VC USD A005, are incompatible, and some lenses may have limitations regarding optical image stabilization (OIS), autofocus, or iris support without an external power supply.
