I am a real estate agent looking for better images. The ability to bounce the light with the Nikon SB-400 has increased traffic to my listings and yielded more offers.

I gave this a 4 star only because this is my 2nd flash to replace the one that has a broken switch after a few years. What do I expect? Things to break don't they? As a Nikon owner for 30 years, my past flashes have all held up well, even with more extreme use. My last SB400 was babied. I would not say the quality has gone down, but maybe 10% cheaper plastic is used now....just an opinion. But would still buy again like I did now. It's a great flash for what it is.

This is a perfect flash that will easily fit into your camera bag. It has several movement options as well.

I bought this in hopes that my photos of my grandson's big first birthday party would be better than the popup flash on my Nikon D300 would give me. I must say there was a quantum leap in the quality of my photos with this flash. The ability to adjust the flash power was very helpful after I had gotten a good feel for what each level would do with some test shots. For what I do with my photography, this is all the flash I need. It seems to be well built as well. When I think of all the shots I could have made so much better had I only bought this earlier I could kick myself.

A great all around flash which is light enough to leave on the camera all the time.

For the most part, I have little need for a separate flash unit in my work. The SB400 serves my limited needs perfectly. It is simple and easy to use and provides plenty of power for my purposes. Others, who use a flash unit more than I do, will probably want and need a more versatile unit. Mine works for me.

With the omnibounce it provides a brighter softened light. It does require off camera mounting for macro. All in all happy with the purchase.

I really like this flash unit. Small and easy to use, yet enough power for most indoor situations. It was on back order, and well worth the wait!

Just had the flash for 10 days, so not sure about durability. Really well worth the money if it lasts.

This works great for general snap shots. Inexpensive and small. Gets rid of the black smudge on the bottom of photos when using the camera flash and a telephoto lens.

For general, indoor/outdoor, fill flash on a D5100. It's compact, simple, effective and perfect for smaller travel kit. Use the SB800 as well, but too bulky for general everyday use. This flash is a must have.

Purchased this unit to provide bounce flash to avoid harsh straight on flash from included flash on the D7000.

This is a great, lightweight flash that gives you more than adequate power without having a huge unit poking off of the top of your camera. It's not as intimidating to your subject and it has the ability to tilt the flash so that you can bounce the light, which is far more pleasant than the harsh on camera flash. The only downside is that the flash cannot rotate when taking vertical photos... but at this price you can't expect it all. Great flash. Great price. Great results!

This was a purchase to use at a family wedding this weekend so have used it little. From the test shots taken the bounce will greatly improve the lighting qualty of my P-7000. Also the recycle time over the in camera flash is great. Plan on taking 100s of shots and expect all to be great.

Great job, plenty of flash for my uses. Very pleased with shooting outdoors at night. Simple to use, just attach and shoot. The reason I gave it 4 stars was because it doesn't work in commander mode on my D90 but I bought a flash extension cord and works like a charm off camera. If you like simple and powerful this is the one for you.

SB-400 is small and compact but powerful enought to use for everyday low light photography. Flash lamp swivels so you can bounce flash off walls or ceiling to get crateive shots and not have to settle for just straight ahead flash like built in camera flash. Sits higher on the camera body so it does not get blocked by larger lenses and lens hoods like the built in camera flash. Uses standard AA batteries and recycles fairly quickly so can use anytime you need that extra touch of flash. Great flash in a small package and although the price is a little higher than I think it should be, still a good purchase.

If you do street photography or travel, this is the flash for you. I hate traveling with a big flash, not even a SB600. This one gives enough light when you need it, and I like you can throw indirect light with it. The other flashes are good for studio or location shooting where you have a lighting setup or plan. This one is when you move real fast and light.

This is a basic product not fancy but its inexpensive so you can't expect a highly advanced product for the same price as a basic one

This is my first Nikon Product, I purchased it with the Nikon Digital point and shoot P7100, I must say I am please beyond expectation. I am a canon enthusiast with all canon products. I gave my Canon G11 to my daughter, I was very disappointed with that camera, because the photos were not sharp enough. The combination of this flash and the Nikon P7100 rocks! and the photos are as sharp as My DSLR cameras I own for use during casual shooting. I will use these products while traveling and enjoying my family events. It is great to carry around in stead of my bulky DSLR and Canon Flash.
