I can't imagine my S1R without this battery grip! Functional in that it adds extended shooting time to the camera, but , in it's own right is also very "Beautiful"!!!!!! The design guys at Panasonic out did themselves in designing this camera and the battery grip. It will be attached to my camera permanently!!! I love the feel, the balance, the great ergonomics that the grip adds to the camera.

This battery grip is very well built and it has most of the important camera controls such as the twin dials, joystick, and the af-on button. It integrates into the camera without having to remove the battery door. Just remove the rubber flap on the bottom of the camera and the protective cap from the grip. Line up the terminals and screw it on the tripod mount. The grip has a clever holder for your battery grip cap and the camera's bottom rubber flap integrated into the battery grip itself so that you don't have to store them in a separate bag.

I'd received this battery grip along with my new Panasonic S1R. It is well made, duplicates many of the functions on the camera's body and improves the camera hold when a long lens is attached and provides the added benefit of containing an extra battery.

The S1/R needs power. Though it's not "power hungry." Mostly because it's SO fully featured (and that STELLAR live viewfinder!) Two batteries on board helps. This grip is super well made and fits the S bodies well. It has duplicate shutter button, control dials, Fn button and joystick. It feels grippy in hand and substantial. It's actually not heavy for its size even with the giant S battery in it. For a short time, the grip and spare battery were a no-cost part of the camera kit purchase price. If you missed out -- YOU MISSED OUT! Smokin' deal! Even so, the grip and spare battery are really an essential purchase for the S1/R camera.
