Great lens for the price!

Works great with my Canon 6D full frame body. Please note this is a manual lens, so it doesn't have electronics, stab or autofocus motors, so you'll be shooting in manual, bulb or aperture priority (in the latter case the camera will adjust the shutter speed for proper exposure). As a manual lens, it's very well suited to landscapes, nightscapes, and astrophotography.

Excellent budget astrophotography

I can’t wait to find a clear night in the PNW to do some astrophotography with this lens. Super wide angle and decent speed.

Mixed feelings about this lens...

I gotta be honest on this one, I was not able to get sharp images with this lens right out the box. I had to calibrate this lens using some tricks I found online which required some risks. The Infinity mark was off and I had to calibrate that too. I'm not 100% satisfied with this lens, for a very odd reason I simply coulnd't get anything in focus, not even close objects. Maybe I had a bad copy... I just don't know! After the calibrations I made, the lens work better now, still not super sharp but it is better than before. I really like the quality of this lens but the focus it's really a nightmare for me! Again... give it a try, maybe I got a bad copy!

Best value for an ultra, ultrawide

Great value for a fast, sharp, full frame ultra, ultrawide. Yes, it does have distortion, and my D750 FX does not have a correction factor for it. But Adobe's free Lens Profile Creator generated an accurate correction factor that was automatically imported into my copy of Lightroom 6 that straightens it out at a keystroke. Very nice option if you don't want to spend thousands.

A good wide-angle starter

For the price, it can't be beat; I picked this up to cut my teeth in real estate photography. But because it is a budget lens, there is a significant amount of distortion and fuzziness around the edges of the images that are taken in small spaces that even with Lightroom corrections can sometimes be hard to fix. Best way around this is using panoramic techniques. Though it shines in large spaces, see my image of the church for an example.

If you get a good copy, this is a fun lens to use at night. I gave up trying to get a good copy...

A great value!

Best bargain there is in a manual ultra-wide. Having a lens this wide be manual is also not an issue like it might be on a longer focal length.

Beware: Not for RP

Listed as being for Canon. But BEWARE: But it does not work with RP when mounted on EOS-RF Adapter. Camera will not shoot. Yes, we know it won't control focus or aperture. But camara simply will not fire at all.

great astrophotography lens

This is a great beginner lens for astrophotography and night sky photos. I am just starting to teach myself how to take night sky photos and wanted a wide angle lens that I could use on my crop sensor Canon Rebel T6 and also on a full frame in case I ever upgrade in the future. This looked like the best lens I could find under $600, and I can't afford to spend much money on lenses as I am a college student! I've been spending the fall in Arizona so have had lots of chances to test it out on both astrophotography and landscape. I really like it for night time shoots, and have been very pleased with star trail photos especially! The slight fish eye is hard to work with when trying to stitch photos together, but I think that is my inexperience rather than the lens. It is somewhat frustrating to use during the day for landscapes; no autofocus, and I can't shoot on automatic mode ever because the camera body doesn't "know" what aperture the lens is set to. I also find that the lens gets fluff/dust and little hairs on the face of the lens very quickly that are noticeable in my daytime photos (and I am very careful about keeping the lens cap on unless actively shooting a photo). I would highly recommend this lens for astrophotography and milky way photography, but am not sold on its use as a more general wide angle lens.

I am very happy with this product. Sturdy and responsive.

I ordered this lens for Sony. It is a well built lens with smooth operation. I have used it for Astro photo and for flowers. It also worked very well for my wedding environment shots. Eg church and reception. I did want to draw attention to the extended barrel for Sony mirrorless. Not an issue, just an observation for size.

It's good for a budget lens

This is good for a budget lens but not the best. You will get a little distortion. It's sharp but you will get a little vignette.

Ok for the money

For what the lens is priced at the quality seemed good. I thought the manual focus would be fine on the Sony A7iii but I was using the lens for real estate photos it was hard to focus while the camera was in a corner. Overall the lens was fine but I would for sure go with an af one in the future or maybe not as wide.

Perfect Option for a MF Ultra Wide Lens

Great option for an inexpensive ultra wide lens, especially for someone like myself who is only dabbling in environmental shots and portraits. I mostly have used this lens for astrophotography, thus far, so the manual focus is a given. I would definitely recommend this set up for the hobbyist/enthusiast looking to add a great ultra wide option to their collection.

Great lens for the price

When I received this lens, I did not expect much in a way of sharpness. Boy was I wrong. When used correctly, this lens will give you great looking images. If you are on a budget, this lens will adequately meet your ultra wide angle needs.

blurry

recently bought a Samyang 14mm f2.8. very wide and useful. however, the focus on my copy did not work very well. I tried to focus on the far view, even though I used the focus peak and tripod, I still can't focus on the objects that I want. the objects are blurry, and this situation also happened when I focus on something close (distance over 20cm), even my kit lens 28-70 is clearer than the Samyang (in the same condition, iso, shutter, aperture, distance)

Sharpest in its class, Astrophotography champion in its price

By Eleftherios K.

It's one of the times I agree with DxOmark which ranks this lens insanely high (higher than thousand dollar lenses) in terms of sharpness. Very good (though a bit too wide) for landscapes, and at the same level as the Nikkor 20mm 1.8 for astrophotography (but a lot cheaper and surprisingly a tiny little bit sharper!).

Lens and Adorama are Great

By Michael K.

I had my first chance to use the Samyang 14mm lens on my Nikon D7200. Tonight we had such beautiful and unusual clouds in the sky. I took off my normal lens and put on the Samyang lens. Got many fabulous photos with it. I am so glad that I got the lens. As for Adorama, I have bought many items from them and have always been pleased at the prices and the condition of the items.

The Samyang 14 mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens for Micro 4/3 gives you approximately a 115-degree view with dramatic results when used with a full frame digital camera or 35 mm film camera. On APS-C sized sensors, the angle of view is between 90 degrees and 94 degrees depending on the brand. Four-thirds cameras produce a 76.24-degree angle of view.

With hybrid aspherical lenses, you will produce sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations. These manual focus 14 mm lens focuses as close as 0.9' (0.274 m) from the lens and has a built-in petal-type lens hood. With some cameras, Shutter Lock must be disengaged on the camera's menu.

Samyang 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Manual Focus for Micro 4/3 Cameras Features

  • Ultra wide-angle 14mm lens with an approximately 90deg. angle of view using an APS-C camera, for dramatic effects
  • Lens is constructed with two ED lens elements, one hybrid aspherical lens element and one glass aspherical lens element, for outstanding, sharply defined images
  • Minimal distortion and chromatic aberrations
  • Super multi-layer coating to reduce flares and ghost images
  • Lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.9' (0.274m) for enhanced close-up shots
