Great traveling lens for a song

This is a great lens for traveling. You don't have to carry a bunch of lenses with this one. This one does it all.

Fast but not consistent

I purchased this lens as an upgrade from the original box kit that came with my Canon 7D (28-135mm). It has performed well in various light situations, even on video I noticed sharp and accurate picture. However, at times it has failed to communicate with the camera and I get an error message that advice me to clean the contact sensors. Lost some precious moments and felt at times very embarrased because when that happens detaching and re-inserting the lens doesn't fix the problem all the time and I always have to carry with other lenses as my back-up.

Nice all purpose lens

I use this for outdoor photography, mostly insects and flowers. The Image Stabilization helps a lot and I probably won't buy a lens without it in the future. Photos are sharp, and Autofocus generally works fine though sometimes I have to switch to manual when the scene is too busy. There is some vignetting when it is fully zoomed, though it is most noticeable when the background is a solid, light color (and it's easily cropped out). Overall, easy to use and flexible for a range of situations.

Must have for your lens Arsenal!

I was looking for a lens that could be used for Portraits or shooting Landscapes, and I found it. This is my new work horse lens.

Great Lens and staple in the hand

all that I can say that this lens is so good that you have a huge range between 18mm all the way up to 250mm, which means it's all times Lens, you don't need to carry anything else with you if you are shooting. awesome step forward to replace a lens or to add to collection.

Good for travel, but lacks image quality

This lens is pretty good for travels when you want to take some different range pictures without changing lens. The image quality is nice but do not expect any professional results. When you crop the image you notice that they lack detail.

Nice Lens, good quality pictures.

We use this as our "everyday" lens on the Canon XSi. Whether the objective is outdoor portraits, sporting events, or just nice scenery shots, this lens makes it work. So far, good bang for the buck.

Nearly Perfect

There are only 3 drawbacks to this lens, from my 1.5 months and 3,000+ photos shot with it: - I do experience a bit of peripheral image distortion with this lens. It's not noticeable unless I'm stitching something together, at which point it's fairly bad, particularly on shots of sky. - I shoot without flash, so this lens is a bit slow for my needs. I can compensate by bumping up the ASA, but that has its drawbacks. - The action to extend the lens to its maximum range and then to focus has caused me to miss some shots. I think this is due to the action of zooming out to 250mm not being as smooth as it could be. Perhaps this will improve with use.

Nice walk around lens

This is a really nice surprise. Most people on forums seem to think that so called super zoom lenses are too much of a compormise to be any good. I am taking a long vacation and wanted a walk around solution. I received this lens and tried it out right away. The focus is almost as fast as the canon 17-55. When you are outside During the day or inside with a nice flash (like the 430 exII) the IQ is outstanding. As long as you understand the limitations of a lens like this you will be very happy!!

Looks better than it is

I am disappointed with the image quality. The images are soft and lack detail. There seems to be a lot of fringing and noise at ISO 400. This would be a good lens for someone to take for vacation photos that would not enlarge more than 4x6 or use on web. Images look good on the computer screen until you enlarge or crop them at 100%

About Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM (Optical Stabilizer) Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras

18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM...

An extended range Zoom Lens with Hybrid Optical Stabilization and Hyper-Sonic Motor, Sigmas innovation is in the 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM 13.8:1 extended range zoom lens.

The DC lens is a dedicated digital SLR camera lens suited for APS-C format, and HSM (Hypersonic Motor) ensures quiet and high speed AF as well as full time manual focusing capability. Four Special Low Dispersion glass elements and three Aspherical lens elements provide excellent image quality throughout the entire zoom range.

This 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) high power zoom ratio lens is exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras and is capable of covering a wide range of focal lengths from wide angle to telephoto.

It is equipped with Sigma's own unique technology of OS (Optical Stabilizer) function. This function uses two sensors inside the lens to detect vertical and horizontal movement of the camera and works by moving an optical image stabilizing lens group, to effectively compensate for camera shake.

It automatically detects movement of the camera and compensates for camera shake when shooting moving subject such as motor sports.

The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghost. This lens provides superior image quality throughout the entire zoom range.

An inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for using circular polarizing filters and the petal-type lens hood supplied.
