I shoot my son's ice hockey games and could not be happier with the results I am getting with this lens. Lens was as advertised and did not break the bank.

this is an excellent lens for the cost. I've owned a few other brands at this focal length and this is the best so far.

My 80-200 2.8 Nikon lens lacked a tripod collar and needed cleaning so i bought this lens as an upgrade. This lens is very quiet--almost too quiet. I would be shooting away at an event (like a marathon or cycling race) and suddenly realize that it was no longer focusing when I turned to change the focusing distance. It would stop follow focusing during rapid use on both my D200 and D100. The remedy was to turn off and turn on the camera. I did a hard reset on both cameras thinking it needed to sync up. Did firmware updates, too. Finally, I sent it back to Sigma TWICE for chip upgrades and they swore it was not their issue and it must me Nikon's. In the end, it never worked properly. After further research on Nikonians.com, apparently others have had the same problem. Maybe Canon owners don't have this problem, but it will be a long time before i own another Sigma lens. I don't feel their customer service did me right. Thankfully, I got back what I bought it for so the only thing I was out was time and frustration. It did however, focus faster and quieter than my old Nikon 70-200 and was lighter. But in the end, it was still below the overall quality of the older, clunkier Nikon. Also, the images were not as sharp as a Nikon lens either because of the glass or difficulty follow focusing. All my Nikon and Tamron lenses work just fine. I sold this lens and went back for another, newer 80-200 Nikon.

The lens is a handful. The photos shot with this lens are sharp. The lens is bright and easy to manually focus.

I've only had this lens for a couple of months. I recently used it to photograph hummingbirds in the morning light. Using a tripod and shooting at F/2.8, this lens was ideal for getting perfect "fast" shots of hummingbirds as they feed from a feeder. Overall, and excellent zoom lens to have on hand for low light situations.

This large aperture telephoto zoom lens has a minimum focusing distance of 100cm (39.4) throughout the entire zoom range. It is very convenient for close-up photography. This lens uses two ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glasses and two SLD Special Low Dispersion glasses for utmost correction against chromatic aberrations. This lens's super multi layer lens coating reduces flare and ghost, which is a common problem with digital cameras.
This lens incorporates HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), which ensures a quiet and high-speed AF. The lens design incorporates an inner focusing and inner zooming systems. The overall length of the lens does not change during focusing and zooming, ensuring convenient handling. A removable long tripod collar (TS-41) is included as a standard component.
When this lens is used with the 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters (optional), it becomes a 98-280mm F4 AF telephoto zoom lens or a 140-400mm F5.6 AF telephoto zoom lens respectively.
