It's a keeper

Only had it a few days before using it on a trip to the mountains here in Idaho. It's a bit "not quite in focus" when in auto-focus, but in manual, it's pretty sharp. It's fairly quiet and feels much more solid than the non-macro Canon 70-300mm lens. The real test will be this summer when I go to a few air shows.

Buy it!

I am using this on my sony a7ii with a cheap manual adapter. With sony peaking, focusing is not a problem. I just got this today and immediately I went to the park to take some photos. The pictures were very good. For the price, this is the best zoom lens there is.

Sigma over Sony

I have had a sigma before, the pics are really sharp...some folks in reviews talking about motor lag, depends on the camera and whether you have a power increase setting which is in the pro full size DSLR newer models. I have A77 II model and had the Sony 55-300 lens. Which was okay; but only half the time sharp images. I did notice in sigma a faster shoot response time in my A77 II. My sony 300 i had for 5 years the aperture stuck in the lens body. So I am replacing it. I dropped my sigma years back; but was more expensive then...but is now more affordable now. just remember your cameras has AF and Shoot at will Focus...just know your settings guys. Some of the comments are just unbelievable about lens on most sites. If you get a lens error switch lens immediately in any camera. Sigma also has more element glass than Sony also. Qualty feel is also better. i wont go back to Sony on this lens or their top tier either which i found clunky motion; it was better at exposure than being accurate phasing in and out images. The white color body didn't help either...lol

Great product for the $!

I purchased this lens to compete with a Canon EF-Mount of 70-300mm. This lens was a steal! It is amazing, I really have no complaints about it. I've never used Sony products before and i'm going to be using them again and again. I have used this lens to photograph a newborn session of close-ups of babies feet and hands, I have also used it to photograph an engagement party. It works as expected and amazing with my Canon EOS 6D

Nice Lens

This lens replaced a 70-300 Tamron lens that I’d had for a while. So far I’m very pleased with the results. I used to get a lot of CA with the Tamron - so far so good with the Sigma. Sharpness is better as well. F/11 seems to be the sweet spot with this lens at full zoom, shooting in Av mode. Gonna try full manual and different f-stops and see how it performs. Focuses relatively quickly. Build quality seems good.

Works Well

The lens works pretty efficiently. I take pictures for my high school football team and they seem to be happy with the unclose shots that I'm able to obtain with this lens. I don't like the auto focus that much but manual isn't too bad as long as you're adjusted to the light and other surroundings.

Pretty Good

Not bad at all. Just kind of noisy when autofocusing isn’t that smooth fast and quiet like the canon brands. But really great for the price

Great so far

I just switched to Pentax from Canon, juts got the K-1, and wanted an inexpensive lens to start with. So far, it's been a good, solid lens. I use it for professional work (even though I don't consider myself a professional), a magazine cover, photos for editorial, etc. Mostly white background photos in a light box.

Love it

Love it. Takes clear shots which is what I am primarily concerned about. Is a little noisy but I have no issue with that. It does everything I want in a zoom.

Amazing value

If you're a Pentax owner, even if you only occasionally need/use a telephoto lens, you'll want to add this little gem to your arsenal. It's very powerful, surprisingly sharp, and an amazing value. You can't go wrong, especially buying it from Adorama!

Great basic equipment at a fair price.

Great lens, proof that a good lens can be made that is affordable. This piece of equipment will do the job nicely for 99% of all photograhers.(the unpretentious ones)

Great budget lens

Love the clarity and focal length. The autofocus works great although it is pretty loud. Definitely a good buy.

Works great

I use it all the time and have kept the 200 for my stand by D-3100 which my husband has not used yet. This one I use with my Nikon D-3300.

I'm a nit-picker

I found the product excellent in quality and performance, however (and this my be considered nit-picking), I would have liked the bayonet mounting ring to be black to match the color of the camera. Thanks.

Have to Nikon with built in focus motor

This is a great lens for Nikon cameras that have the built in focus motor motor. I am using it on a D90 where it works fine.

Dependable images, low-cost long lens option

I needed a long (zoom) lens primarily for taking pics at soccer games and of wildlife (birds) from a distance. The native Sony option for my A7 was $$$ and this was a very reasonably-priced alternative. Adorama was helpful in this purchase, making sure it was compatible and would give me good pics w/my full frame camera. The only not-great behavior I've noticed in the past few weeks is with a low f-stop, there is a tendency to some blue "light" streaks on details. If I need a wide-open aperture I guess I need to carry a tripod; oh well. The lens certainly is at least as good as I'd hoped, and the price was very good.

Very happy with this lens!

Very good quality pictures for the price- excellent value. Macro mode is quite usable tho not equal to a dedicated macro lens. Build quality was very good. Zoom function was also fairly smooth. A significant tho not major drawback was a rotating front element making using a polarizer a bit of a chore. Overall very pleased, as I use it for an alternate very happy with this lens. to a very heavy 70-210 2.8 telezoom.

Not bad

Not a bad lense to play around. Inexpensive but motor is a bit loud. I'm curious how it compares to the Tamron counterpart. Focusing is pretty good even in low light situation.

So far, so good!

Great lens so far. For me, just getting into macro, this lens is perfect. I'm just starting out in the DSLR world so I can't really get into the technical aspects of the lens, but picture quality is wonderful!

So very happy, super impressed!!

This piece is absolutely perfect, for the money it is a awesome blessing. I cannot say it any other way. Takes wonderful pictures with my Nikon D 3300 and love it to death, love them both to death. It's a awesome perfect peace for somebody on a financial budget like myself that still wants quality 300 millimetres Zoom. A great piece love it wouldn't do without it.

Wow!

By Jeffery F.

I use this mostly outside. Working outside, this lense performs flawlessly. Remember, there is NO IS, so those who complain about that being a problem, its not. Know what your buying. I have taken pictures with this thing from the upper deck at Jax Jaguars stadium and from Ny Yankees stadium and have gotten phoneomenal photos even at iso 800 with very little noise. If you want to take low light photos, and use shutter speeds below 100 at full zoom...well this would not be your lense. Bu...

Telephoto zoom lens with excellent cost performance and optimized for use with digital SLR cameras

Capable of macro photography, this lens has a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300 mm focal length. It's the ideal high performance lens for portraits, sports photography, nature photography, and other types of photography that frequently use the telephoto range.

SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass
We used SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in this lens for excellent correction of chromatic aberration. This also corrects for fluctuation of aberration due to focusing. The new multi layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, a common problem with digital cameras and also creates an optimum color balance.

Macro shooting with maximum magnification 1:2
The minimum focusing distance is 1.5 m/59 inches at all zoom settings. It also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200mm and 300mm with a maximum close-up magnification from 1:2.9 to 1:2.

Without changing the distance between camera and subject, you can change the shooting magnification.

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Tele Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras Features

  • New lens coating minimizes flare and ghost, a common problem with Digital SLR cameras.
  • Engaging the Macro Switch makes the lens capable of macro photography with a 1:2 maximum magnification.
  • Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass is used for compensation of chromatic aberration throughout the entire zoom range.
