This is an extremely sharp lens that's built like a tank, has really nice bokeh and serves it's uses extremely well. I mostly use it for macro work and in the studio where I do digital copy work of oil paintings for an artist. As a manual focusing device, it's a bit slow and methodical, not the lens for moving kid portraits, but for more planned , thoughtful shooting.

This lens is amazing! Tack sharp...excellent contrast. It has the optical quality to stand up to my A7RIV...many others cannot. It's a manual lens with contact points for exif and other communications with your body. It's not full macro, but it gives you what you need...the images are stellar.

Excellently crafted lens and rather compact if a bit weighty~~~Good balance on a7III Sony body however. Nice feel to aperture and focus rings. Click-less making it great for video. It does have a rather long focus throw going from "macro". It's not a full 1:1 macro but has a good range for when you need that pickup "close up". It does work well for a portrait lens. The color rendition is magnificent~~ good saturation without being harsh, of course it is an apochromatic lens. Sharp across the image even wide open. Allows you good creative options. Only draw back is lack of weather sealing.

The Voigtlander Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm F2 has all-round solid construction; same fit and feel as my Zeiss Loxia lenses. It is an all-round use lens— not just for micro photography use. It is fairly big and heavy and not one you would normally wish to routinely carry around for every day shooting Unlike the Loxia lenses tthe Voigtlander has a good grip area for mounting and dismounting the lens from the camera. It is a manual only lens, but provides electrical connection to my Sony a7m2 and a6500 cameras. The focus ring works the same as on the Zeiss Loxia lenses— looking from the rear towards lens front it is CCW to infinity stop. This took me some getting used to as my Nikon lenses focus rings turn CW to infinity stop. This lens uses a 67mm filter v. 52 mm for the Loxias. I bought this lens to use in my product photography business. I shoot Tactical products such as guns and holsters and magazine reviews and covers. I had been using the Sony 90mm macro, but kept feeling I was losing sharpness with the autofocus. Voigtlander to the rescue. I owned some of their lenses a long time ago when I shot Nikon, so it was the first thought that came to mind when I was doing a lot of post sharpness touchups. Get ready for an amazing UGLY, built like a tank lens.

With an apochromatic design, the MACRO APO-LANTHAR 65mm f/2 Aspherical Lens from Voigtlander will be able to deliver crisp, aberration-free imagery, even with the high resolutions of modern digital sensors. This lens is designed to work with full-frame Sony E-mount cameras where it offers users the ability to get close to their subjects thanks to the 1:2 magnification ratio afforded by the 12.2" minimum focus distance.
It also boasts outstanding sharpness, helped in part by an aspherical element, meaning users will be able to resolve the finest details in their subjects. On top of this, the lens features a relatively fast f/2 aperture, which will enable the creation of images with a shallow depth of field as well as in low-light conditions.
