I had to replace my old backup drive when it began to fail. Not wishing to spend the extra $ for T3, when I really didn't need the extra speed, I selected a replacement (from a reputable supplier) using USB 3.0 (fast enough for my application). Unfortunately, I went through two different drives, both encountering a mysterious - and apparently relatively common - iMac problem with the drives disconnecting when the drive chipset tries to sleep the drive independent of the iMac. The drive is then unable to reconnect on its own, not a good feature in a backup drive. I went with a LaCie drive, because they have worked before without a hitch, and the price even for the T3 was reasonable. The drive arrived in a couple days, I unpacked it, connected it up, and ran through the LaCie setup routine in about 10 minutes. The entire new backup took less than two hours and the drive has ran without a hitch since. The T3 speed was nice for the first backup, which took over 5 hours with a USB 3.0 drive, and the reliability of the LaCie drive is reassuring. The daisy-chain port is also a nice touch, since it gives me a bit more flexibility on my port-deprived iMac.

Works well, quiet and fast. Runs a little warm, but not excessive. I’m using it with a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter since my Mac only has Thunderbolt 2 and I have had no issues.

I am a web designer and photographer and have purchased a fair share of hard drives in my day. Usually going to disk utility and reformatting to Mac journaled should have been a piece of cake but not with this one. Do not waste money on this. You don’t need 10TB. You just don’t. Buy a 6 or 8TB instead. Basically you cannot reformat the hard drive if you have anything less than the latest OS for MAc. You also HAVE to use their file system and instal their software. If you don’t you will end up with 450MB. That’s right. It removes the capabilities to store anything altogether. I know people write reviews when they’re either upset or really happy with something but seriously. If you are not a tech genius, don’t purchase this.

This is a good hard drive, especially if you take advantage of its Thunderbolt capabilities, such as powering a laptop, daisy-chaining, etc. However, if you are looking to prioritize 4k video editing, you may need to drop more money and go for a RAID. Lacies are built like a rock.

This drive is so quiet I barely know it is on. Data transfer through the Thunderbolt 3 connection is very fast. As an added bonus it is very attractive on the desktop. Highly recommended piece of hardware. The backup software LaCie provides on their website is another matter though. It is called Intego Backup Assistant and it is a very bare-bones app. I got it to run manually, but automatic scheduling simply doesn't work (using OS 10.13.4). Reverted back to Time Machine and now life is good. Adorama's service was excellent. I ordered on Friday before Passover and received it the following Monday.
