Available in blue, amber, and silver options, the Laowa Proteus Series is designed to meet the dynamic needs of modern film sets, supporting close-up shots with a minimum focusing distance of 55cm. This series is the result of two years of collaboration with cinematographers, blending state-of-the-art technology with classic anamorphic features to deliver remarkable image quality. The Laowa Proteus 2X Anamorphic Series boasts a patented front anamorphic design, providing a robust optical composition that combines the sharpness of modern lenses with the vintage appeal of anamorphic characteristics. The constant 2X squeeze ratio is delicately designed to deliver the classic wide-screen anamorphic look, working seamlessly with 4:3 or 6:5 sensors typically found in professional cinema cameras. The large aperture of the Proteus series ranges from T2 to T22, accommodating all lighting conditions and creating a ravishing shallow depth of field at large apertures. The lenses render an organic waterfall focus roll-off in the background, a distinct anamorphic characteristic highly sought after in the film industry. The Proteus Series stands out for its outstanding sharpness and excellent color rendition and contrast. Even when shooting wide open, these lenses reproduce high image quality with well-controlled chromatic aberration. The minimum focusing distance of 55cm allows for easy capture of super close-up shots, adding variety and cinematic vibes to your frames. Compared to 1.5X or 1.8X Anamorphic lenses, the Proteus Series creates thinner and longer elliptical bokeh in the out-of-focus areas, enhancing the anamorphic look of your shots. Choose from classic sci-fi blue, warm amber, or neutral silver flare color options to set the tone for your film. The Proteus lenses also feature low focus breathing, allowing for subtle changes in the angle of view when the focusing distance is altered. This supports filmmakers in depicting a scene by shifting the focus between subjects. The Proteus lenses are designed for ease of use, with unified gear positions for quick switching between focal lengths, a back focus adjustment mechanism for direct calibration on the camera, and a 0.8 Mod Gear for both aperture and focus gear to work with the pitching. Choose your desired measurements for the focus ring with the option of metric or imperial scale.
