Just introduced, the Laowa Proteus 60mm T2 2x Anamorphic Cine Lens for PL Mount/Canon EF, Silver, Feet is the newest addition to the professional anamorphic series, specifically designed for Super 35 sensors. This series boasts a constant 2X squeeze ratio across four distinct focal lengths, offering superior image quality and consistent classic anamorphic characteristics.

The Laowa Proteus Series is renowned for its elliptical bokeh and signature flares, available in blue, amber, and silver options. This lens supports close-up shots with a minimum focusing distance of 55cm, providing modern conveniences to meet the dynamic needs of any film set.

Over the past two years, we've collaborated with cinematographers to integrate state-of-the-art technology into our lenses. The result is a blend of classic anamorphic characters with exceptional image quality, making the Laowa Proteus series a versatile choice for any cinematic production, regardless of resolution or aspect ratio.

The Laowa Proteus 2X Anamorphic Series features a patented front anamorphic design for a robust optical composition. This design ensures the image sharpness of modern quality while retaining the vintage look of anamorphic characteristics.

The series is delicately designed with a constant 2X squeeze ratio, ideal for the classic wide-screen anamorphic look for cinema use. It works seamlessly with 4:3 or 6:5 sensors, delivering a 2.66:1 or 2.4:1 image after de-squeeze. This allows filmmakers to use the footage entirely or crop to a 2.39:1 with minimal loss of resolution.

The iris ranges from T2 to T22 for the entire series, supporting filming in all light conditions. The large aperture creates a ravishing shallow depth of field and renders organic waterfall focus roll-off in the background, a distinct anamorphic characteristic desired by the film industry.

The Proteus Series offers outstanding sharpness, excellent color rendition, and contrast. The lenses reproduce high image quality and sharpness even when shooting wide open, with well-controlled chromatic aberration.

The Laowa Proteus Series' minimum focusing distance of 55cm (1.8 feet) allows for super close-up shots, adding variety to framing for storytelling. The close-up shots generate a shallower depth of field, adding aesthetic and cinematic vibes to the frame.

Compared to 1.5X or 1.8X Anamorphic lenses, the Proteus Series creates thinner and longer elliptical bokeh in the out-of-focus areas, enhancing the anamorphic look of the shots. The series offers classic sci-fi blue, warm and elegant amber, and neutral silver flare color options, allowing cinematographers to set the tone for the film.

The Proteus lenses feature low focus breathing, with a subtle change in the angle of view when the focusing distance is altered. This supports filmmakers in depicting a scene by shifting the focus between subjects.

The Proteus lenses are designed for ease of use with unified gear position, back focus adjustment mechanism, 0.8 Mod Gear for both aperture and focus gear, and a choice of metric or imperial scale for the focus ring. The lenses also support a finer and more accurate degree of change in focal distance with a 300-degree focus throw.

Designed with a 114mm outer diameter and 105mm filter thread, the lenses accommodate common matte boxes or filters. With a super 35+ sensor coverage and the ability to cover up to 21.6mm sensor height, the entire series is compatible with some full-frame cameras and most Super 35 cameras, including the latest Alexa 35.
