Alta Pro 263AT was too big and cumbersome for the travel, and have had really good experience with Vanguard. Decided to buy another Vanguard for travel, and decided on the Vanguard Veo 265AB. Because of the cons, I had to return the tripod even though I really liked it. Pro: - With the legs fully extended, the tripod was very sturdy with 7d + 24-70mm lens mounted. - At 3.7lbs, it relatively light compared to the Alta Pro 263AT - Folds very into a very compact 15.4" - Flip locks allows for fast deployment - Legs include spikes, unlike other brands Con: - The center column would not stay on the vertical, with camera/lens mounted, which was caused by the ball socket that allows the center column flip 90 degrees parallel to the ground. The locking mechanism didn't seem to lock the center column, but locks the cup holding the column instead. This causes the column, when extended, to rock back and forth 1-2 degrees off the perpendicular.

I am always very cautious when it comes to buy camera gear, but I must say, I am very pleased with this tripod. I used a 1DC with a 70-200 2.8 and it worked just fine when shooting landscapes. It folds very nicely and fits easily in my F-Stop hiking backpack, which is the main reason I got it. Though it's not a heavy duty, studio or big production tripod, it works perfect for travel with those on a budget.

I needed a fairly light but powerful tripod for outdoor and landscape photography that requires days and nights in the mountains. I researched for months and decided to give this little guy a try. It's all I'd hoped it would be. My large Canon DSLR, 70-200mm f/2.8 ii lens and speedlite are held up with weight to spare. I like pistol grips so I was a bit apprehensive about whether this little tripod mount, which slips into place and then must be tightened (it doesn't snap into place) could really sustain such weight... I'd say 10 or 12 lbs.... and surprisingly it does. When the quick release plate is tightened into place, it doesn't slip, which kind of defies gravity but all I can say is it holds up. I may still buy the Vanguard pistol grip separately but if I choose not to, this works. Well. Works well. Very well. I love the portability and the fact that it fits compactly into my backpack, especially for air travel. And the weight is decent at 3 1/2 lbs. If you're going to be in one place and just need a heavy, sturdy tripod, Vanguard has others, but if portability and lightness is what you need for hiking and backpacking, the VEO series is great. I love this little guy.

description never gave the height without the center post being extended. So it is too short and is also unstable.

I have used it twice and the head is great. I love the arca swiss plate as now I leave the one plate on the big lens and use the one from my Peak Design strap on the battery grip. Easy to carry, solid, and sturdy. I would recommend for the money.

Light enough to travel and sturdy enough for my Nikon D600 with a 300mm lens.

The VEO 265AB offers an innovative rapid column rotation feature that makes it super compact and allows quick setup and takedown. The 5-section aluminum alloy legs come equipped with extra strong leg locks, giving it a higher loading capacity than other tripods of its kind. Three different leg angle options and a special adaptor make extra low angle photography easy. The soft rubber handle provides an unbeatable grip, in any weather. The VEO 265AB is the perfect complement to the traveling photographer not willing to part with versatility or dependability.
