Questions & Answers

Shopper : IS THE VIVITAR BATTERY GRIP FOR THE NIKON D7000 RELIABLE?Scott T : It has worked on my D700 just fine, I am pleased with this unitJASON J : I've had it for about a year now. When I hold my ~6LB camera setup (D700 w/ pro lens and flash), I sometimes hold it by only by this grip walking. It has yet to break on me or show signs of falling apart. Please note that it will not increase the shooting speed of the D700 like the Nikon version will, and that you will need to buy the extra battery to put in it if you want the extra power. I hope I answered your question. If you have any more, feel free to ask!
Shopper : Does this grip increase the frame per second to 8 fps for the d300?Scott T : I found that if you use the 8 AA batteries instead of the EL3 standard camera battery you do get the 8 FPS instead of 6 FPS on the D300. You can prove this by clicking the lock button on the back of the D300. With a single EL3 or two EL3's it will show 6FPS, Swap out with the AA pack and it will show you 8FPS! I think the 8AA is a bit less expensive than the EL4 and the other items needed.JASON J : I know that it doesn't for the D700. I was hoping it did. There is a way to get the 8fps speed without a grip by changing some settings in the camera you can find on YouTube. This Vivitar grip is only for an extra battery, and a better way to hold the camera for portraits. Hope this helped!ALICIA K : Hi, I do not see a discernible difference in my frame rate..I do however, experience very annoying power interruptions when it is attached. I've used the Vivitar and nikon versions on my D700 and have the problem with both...so it could just be my camera...I keep it attached now without the second battery as I like having the extra shutter release for portrait mode!

Untrustworthy piece of plastic

I thought the Nikon MB-D10 was just an over-priced simple piece of plastic and that any other brand could make one just as good for a lot less. Completely false! This grip gives you a good vertical grip and the expected functions as in the original version (shutter, focus-on, speed and aperture dials and pad+ok button + 2nd battery with higher continuous shooting speed rate). But after a couple of months of normal cautious use, it's just become a plastic grip with a shutter button. ALL other buttons stopped working completely. And the battery when used in it is depleted twice as fast as when used in camera. Get the real one!

Not all it was cracked up to be.

After about 6 months of use this device became jammed on the base of my camera and it took quite a lot of work to get it off. There is just too much plastic in this unit. Save yourself the hassle and get a Nikon grip. I have had one for a few years now Ian's it has served me well

Three years perfect performance

I got mine three years ago for my D700, and have never shot without it since. I have the Nikon MB-D11 for my D7000 and can't see the slightest difference in quality between Nikon and Vivitar. The grip makes shooting vertical very nearly identical to shooting landscape, saving my wrists and making vertical framing more convenient and accurate. It also provides a more solid feel and balance to the D700. Last, but certainly not least, by using eight AA batteries I up my frame rate to 8 per second -- a significant aid to sports and wildlife shots. Highly recommended. Quality equivalent to Nikon for a fraction the cost.
