The reflectors: Standard issue collapsibles. Nothing to see here, though I'm a little suspicious of the gold side. It's patterned instead of solid gold. The Westcott Stand and holder: Lord have mercy, I have no confidence in it. Stability is a massive issue and the main shaft bends from the weight of a reflector. It barely holds the reflector in one spot -- the slightest breeze will send this thing straight into your model or lights. Be prepared to tighten the Bejesus out of the boom arm handle and still be disappointed. The arm only holds reflectors too, not that you'd ever trust it with your lights anyways. Just get the reflectors and a proper stand separately. The Flashpoint 11.5' 5-section stand with boom arm (if you're getting the kit): This is way better than the Westcott stand. The legs spread further for more stability. The boom arm comes with a counterweight and hides in the main shaft (time/space saver!), rather than being a separate part. The construction feels sturdier and flexes less under duress. You can even mount a light at the end of the arm, which makes it more flexible than the Westcott offering. It's not a replacement for a proper C stand, but it's definitely easier to transport.

I just had problems tightening up the arm you have to go extra tight because the lower you go the weaker the stand is. I wanted to get underneath a subject and couldn’t, as I brought the arm down it was hard to keep it tight enough so that I wouldn’t fall all the way down. The tightening mechanism needs a little more work in my opinionThe reflector itself is perfect and very useful. Even though I gave it an average rating I would recommend this

These are compact and very versatile. They're indispensable in so many lighting situations and make a huge difference in the images that become possible. Probably the best light modifiers I own.

A portable reflector is an excellent tool for light control in many situations. The reflector allows me to reduce shadows on the face while using natural light.

I will follow-up with a more complete review later on. This is my first impression un-boxing the reflectors. The overall build quality looks to be sound. However one fo the reflectors had a couple areas where the stitching had separated from the frame and silver/black cover (roughly 1" in length). In a bit of irony, there was a length of thread that was included with the reflector. I was able to use this and hand stitch the seam closed. Good as new. Never throw the baby out with the bath water. That said, I am looking forward to putting these reflectors to the test and having improved portraits, especially outdoors.

Best shade and reflector you will ever own. I love this, and my assistant loves it too, we work well together with this one single light reflector. Silver, Gold, Black and White.

This portable reflector is an excellent tool for enhancing light control in certain situations. I've been doing a portrait project with a lot of outdoor shooting but in shadows. The reflector allows me to reduce shadows on the face while using natural light. Also, it was fun learning how to fold it up!

A 5-in-1 reflector is a must if you're working with available light. The westport model is solid, I've not had a problem with them in the past couple years, no tears, or rips. just rock solid.

The double ball does not hold tight in place. Worst, the coupling from the double ball to the reflector holder arm felt apart. I had to get my tool box to extract the pin and re-assemble it. The 5/8 female socket does not enter into the mail socket. It takes tape to secure in place.

This reflector is top of the line. I love everything about. It does its job and more. The price is worth it and it makes a difference in your work whether you are using it for filmmaking or photography.

What these reflectors can do for a shot is amazing. Saw them on Adorama TV and ordered a pair. When you get them, pick out a "base" subject for a shot and take it. Then take the same shot with each of the reflectors. You'll get a real feel for their ability to modify the lighting and which is the most appropriate to use in a given situation. It may be difficult to find an accessory that delivers so much value for the price!

I bought this mainly for formal, outdoor portraits for weddings and this did the job! I tested each side of the reflector for their given purposes, and all worked spectacularly. On the day of the wedding, the only side I needed to use was silver, as all the shots were done in open shade areas on a very bright and sunny afternoon. The photos turned out great! The background stayed nicely lit, and my subjects stood out in a very natural way with no awkward cast shadows or obvious beams of light from the reflector. This 40" reflector worked very well in my bright lighting situation to evenly illuminate my subjects, ranging from one person to groups as large as 4 people wide in 2 rows, from roughly 15 feet away. Anyone working with larger groups and/or from longer distances away might consider getting a larger reflector to make up for the reflector's range and/or the inverse square law. The only drawback is that, as with any large reflector, you can't man it and your camera at the same time (why can't we have four arms?); an assistant or clamp stand is needed.

A 40" diameter circle - that's as big as many TVs and makes for a pretty big reflector. It offers a great area of light and diffusion so you can move as close or far away as you need without seeing the cutoff. It's about 14.5" diam folded in the bag, which can squeeze awkwardly into a traditional jansport backpack. Something a tad smaller would be more portable, but if you have a larger pack it'll likely fit.

This is a good quality versatile reflector that folds up and is easy to transport. You really need someone else to go along and hold it for you but its worth it.

Did it's job, till it broke. One of the height adjustment bracket/knobs broke on the stand. Next time I'll buy something that is better made, and will last--even if it costs more. Lesson learned.

Awesome Reflector
By saket y.
I'm not sure why someone would rate this reflector low because "it's too big" since in the 21st century I would hope that people have figured out the concept of measuring length and it's not the fault of the reflector if they don't understand that 40 is bigger than 32, but truth be told, this is a nice large reflector and I am glad for it. If you do portraits, you want to make sure you cover the shadows and with a smaller one it's a little harder to aim. I also like that the translucent par...
