Review Summary

I recently purchased the Wimberley MH-100 MonoGimbal Head for Monopods to use with my larger lenses for concert photography (FOH) or when hiking out in nature and not wanting to bring along a tripod. I like that I have that "gimbal-like" use on my monopod but it does take some getting used to with the weight distribution; as all the weight is to one side (unlike the SK-100 The Sidekick, which I have and use on a tripod and love). I love that when the camera and lens are attached to the MH-100, all feels very secure [when all parts are tightened properly]. I would like to find that comfort-zone when all is tightened and I am walking with the monopod resting over my shoulder, but that will vary depending on which lens/camera body I have at any given time. The weight distribition is the only hold out on 5 stars, but it is a monopod with a heavy lens attached to it, so perhaps a 1/2 star should be awarded back.

The best gimbal fir use with a monopod. It works great. Easy movement. A great addition to shooting wildlife.

I love this thing, super simple to use, balances easily, and more compact than other gimbal setups. No qualms, definitely worth it if you're on the fence.

It works very well and the build quality feels quite nice. I have it paired with a Sigma 150-600 lens, a Kirk photo KLP-625 plate and the whole setup if very easy to carry over my shoulder on my many long birding hikes.

It is fairly easy to tilt my monopod to look up or down a bit and I only occasionally lift it for high shots. I was curios about this and after trying for a few bird shots and surfing shots I'm surprised that I like it. I only took it for surfing since it was on my monopod. I've noticed less fatigue on my neck as I can stand more naturally. Carrying everything is really nice because of the offset it creates. When waiting to shoot, I like to tilt it way down as there is less tendency for the rig to want to twist. I don't know if I'll use it for sports. You can lock it so it doesn't spin, but that is one more variable I may not want when on the sidelines with multiple cameras.

I was skeptical because of the high cost. The offset on a monopod isn't as big of a deal as I originally thought. Really like this for my monopod harness, which is actually a flag harness that a flag-bearer uses in a parade. Perfect setup with my Sigma 150-600 C lens.

This Wimberely MonoGimbal head is able to function well on a sturdy monopod(e.g. RRS MC-34) even with the Nikon 600mm F4 ED FL lens. Provided it is not too windy, one can get tack sharp photos with shutter speeds as low as 1/320.

I have had my Whimberley MonoGimbal for a few months and I give it a solid 5 stars. It really beats the heck out of trying to pick up the entire monopod to get a shot of a Tundra Swan flying overhead! I seldom use my tripod now. With a little practice, I get super stead horizontal shots by extending the monopod out straight in front of me at an angle (like it was the front leg of a tripod) and using my legs as the other two points of contact. I hold the monopod gimbal in my left hand with downward pressure and shoot with my right hand. (make sense?) Just like a Gimbal on my tripod, the monoGimbal quickly adjusts for the shot to be up or down from horizontal. I balanced my D500 with the 200-500 lens so that it balances perfectly at 500 mm. Another significant bonus is you can rotate your camera lens down, tighten, and put the entire rig over your shoulder using the camera as a "stop" against your back. Cut a length of pool noodle and put on your monopod for even more comfort! Super smooth, very well made and I'm sure it will last me forever.

I was not sure about this... but WOW the right choice. I put this gizmo onto my iFootage 2 C180 monopod (It has a unique ball head at the base, that's right the bottom, propelling the entire unit like a gimbal.) It works with a "fluid" viscosity. I centered the camera & lens (EZ). *Gear: Wimberley MH-100 Mono Gimbal Head for Monopods. iFootage 2 C180 Monopod Sony A9M2 Sony 100-400GM I do birds-in-flight, so I need a lot of dexterity and quick flexibility. AND: I do not go "free hand" anymore. Now I use this setup 98% of the time. If I am not hidden, I will stand for several hours with this setup in the Florida heat & sun and not need to rest. Thank you, Wimberley. Before getting the Wimberly, I used a nice ball head at the top. Having a top & bottom ball head on a monopod was nice however I had to pay constant awfully close attention to not letting my camera rig fall. No more! Amazing how the W.MH-100 has improved my posture, images, and love of wildlife photography. I absolutely love this setup. I fully recommend the Wimberley MH-100. *Note: Loosen the lock ring around the lens-if you have one to allow further rotation.

This little tool is a great addition to my gear. I use it with a Sunpack monopod. It provides an improved level of flexibility over a tripod with gimbal head. Not that the tripod/gimbal doesn't have its place but, this is nice for rough terrain. I've used it with my Nikon 200-500 zoom and I'm happy with the stability I get with it.

This new Wimberley MH-100 MonoGimbal for monopods is GREAT! I used a RRS clamp on the top of my monopods and can remove this is seconds. Instead of carrying my big heavy tripod, I started using it for the 600mm lens. It's much lighter and I can walk a lot longer with this. My shoulder doesn't hurt as much. I do need a little more padding on the monopod. I suggest you mount the lens on while still laying down, no chance of dropping it. Then stand it up and away you go. It's very smooth and the keeper rate for the first 1000 photos turned out very high. The only thing I would change it would be nice if you could remove their clamp and add RRS quick release, another great item.

Great compact gimbal head for monopods. I'm using this on top of a 4 series Gitzo tripod to hold up either my Nikon 500mm f/5.6 PF lens or my 600mm f/4 and in both cases it does a great job of providing a balanced gimbal action up on top of the monopod. I've tried: ball heads, monopod tilt heads, and even full Wimberley gimbal heads and this works better than any of those solutions and is much more compact as well. It's also the best monopod solution I've found yet when it comes to carrying big glass like the 600mm/f4 up over my shoulders on the end of a monopod.

After extensive research and design, Wimberley presents the MH-100 MonoGimbal Head for Monopods, a revolutionary addition to your photography gear. This innovative monopod head is expertly crafted to balance your lens, effectively eliminating lens flop. The result is a hand-held photography experience that combines the convenience of a monopod with the added stability of a gimbal head.
Despite its offset design, which may initially seem challenging compared to traditional tilt or ball heads, the MonoGimbal Head offers intuitive handling, effortless panning, and consistent horizon leveling. Your hands naturally adapt to these functions, making the shooting process smooth and seamless.
The MH-100 MonoGimbal Head is a game-changer in terms of portability. Its unique offset design allows for comfortable carrying, with the weight of the lens and camera resting on your back, reducing the strain on your shoulder. This high-quality monopod head is also incredibly lightweight, weighing in at just .77lbs, making it an ideal companion for on-the-go photography.
Designed to handle any lens with a rotating collar, the MonoGimbal Head's capacity is only limited by the strength of your monopod. For optimal performance, your lens should have an Arca-Swiss style quick-release plate or a Lens Replacement Foot with an integrated Arca-Swiss style dovetail. Additionally, your monopod should be rated for three times the weight of your setup and feature a standard 3/8" mounting stud or an Arca-Swiss style quick-release clamp if you plan on mounting using the Arca-Swiss dovetails on the MonoGimbal Head.
In conclusion, the MH-100 MonoGimbal Head for Monopods by Wimberley is a versatile, durable, and adjustable solution for photographers seeking enhanced stability and ease of use. Its high-quality construction and innovative design make it a reliable choice for professionals and enthusiasts alike.
