I have an A2020 I left in the other room for those speakers in there, and the little TV for the wife. It's on the network and I control other zones with the Yamaha app e.g. outside on the porch for example. Very cool! The RX-A3050, I picked up for the front and rear presence for MY NEW MANCAVE, (a garage turned into a suite by my youngest son, a great contractor.) THE SET UP: i use pre-outs only from the Yamaha 3050. They go out to 5 stand alone power amps, one 4 channel monster, and 4 two channel. (Ran 80 amps to that wall during construction and appear to be using all of it.) The amps range from 500 WPC to 1000 WPC, all "Seismic Audio." (If you're reading this, trust me, you'll never buy an amp anywhere else. 3 times the power for almost 1/4 of the price, and they're professional amps for bands, which is how I came across them. Go ahead, check their specs, you'll fall over.) I believe I'm too old to have gone this nuts, but hey, what the heck!:) I have 4 top-of-the-wall, (2 front, 2 side rear) down firing SVS ATMOS speakers, Two SVS Ultra tower fronts, two Ultra centers, Two side wall Prime surrounds, and two in-ceiling 'back surrounds'. Add in two Subs, one SVS PB-16, and one SVS PC+. (The former Sub requires special feet to avoid slab erosion. But the performance, is, well, nuts.) PEFORMANCE TEST Our 13 year old granddaughter, Illiana is here visiting, and happened to be here upon completion. So, last night, she, my wife, and myself, put in (since she'd never seen it), TRON LEGACY, which has fairly impressive sound sourcing. The bottom line is, well, difficult to articulate. After setting up the distances/amplitudes with Oddysey, and then tweaking a bit to my liking, even I was really blown away. This Yamaha really delivers. The meters on the amps illustrate the independence of the channels. Y'all are just going to have to stop by.

Use in a 9.2 setting with DefTech 8060ST's in front. Have A60 Atmos speakers but they don't do any good in a room with really tall ceilings so I am using "front high's" mounted on the wall instead. Replacing a rx-a3030 due to lack of support for 4k/HDR and it works fine but the remote is really horrible compared to the backlit unit supplied with the 3030. Tiny keys that you cannot see at all, especially at night when you are actually USING it! Layout is not the same. Why in the world did they change remotes? Moving UP in receiver and dumbing DOWN the remote makes no sense. Will try the Yamaha AV app on my phone but I feel like I should not have to go this route. Watching a movie in dim or no light makes this one impossible to use. If running 4k/HDR be sure and upgrade your HDMI cables as well. Bluetooth transmit AND receive is nice. Would rate 4+ if the remote wasn't so bad.

Recently upgraded from RX-A3000 to get latest HDMI,HDCP and Audio capabilities to compliment my new 4K Bluray and TV. I use a five channel external amplifier for main speakers, center and rear surrounds and hook up was a breeze with the easy to understand and well labeled rear panel. I really appreciate the on screen setup menus and sound balancing using the included microphone. Granted having owned several high end Yamaha receivers in the past makes understanding the user interface much easier. I haven't figured out how to get the front display to show actual audio type such as dolby autmos or dolby 7.1 master audio etc it only shows Sur. Decode. But otherwise I couldn't be happier with this receiver!

I have used Yamha Receivers since the 80s. For some reason lately the HDMI boards are very sensitive to lightning strikes. Since I moved to this location 10 years ago I have had to repair at least five. If I can find the board I do it myself. Other than that one thing I am a die hard Yamaha fan. I am old enough to have bought tube amplifiers and at my age I can't hear a difference in this unit. I also have an RX-A3020 and I love them both. I have one request, Please Replace The Remote!!!f The remote on the RX-A3020 is much better and it has a light for use in the dark.

I have been using my 3050 now for 4 months and find it quite enjoyable beyond my expectations. I love the Yamaha brand for it's superb natural sound and upgradable software. I have two 2,100 watt high end subwoofers in a 9.2 setup. I am about to hook up two high end ceiling speakers for Dolby Atmos ability. This unit plays very well with high end equipment and provides realistic sound staging. This makes my living room sound huge and lifelike. I can't wait to hear Atmos.

I currently have an Atmos set-up, and it sounds fantastic. The one negative is the remote control, you will find yourself better off using the Yamaha control app.

I have been a Yamaha fan since the 80's with the M-4/C-4/tuner/turntable.This is my 5th Yamaha receiver (2 in Mexico) and by far the most versatile and powerful. I haven't tried Atmos yet but I am excited to do so. I'm struggling a bit with the sound programs but I will get there. However I am absolutely ticked with the very poor very cheap useless remote. No back light, no learning function and no display window. The learning function is essential as I run several sat receivers and multiple zones. The codes for my sat receivers don't exist.I'm contemplating returning the receiver. However, if I decide to keep it, I may order an Rx-V3900 remote. Great receiver- horrible remote. Remote belongs to a $200 product.

Use This Product As The Center Piece Of Your Audio Video System. This Has Been The Easiest Yamaha Receiver I Have Owned To Setup To Date. Yamaha In The Last 30 Years Has Yet To Disappoint. I Do Alot Of Just 2ch Stereo Listening and this does not Fall Off At All In This Area Seeing That It's Major Focus Is Surround Sound Uses. The Lack Of Impressive Remote Is Made Up For By The AV Controller App. There Are Only A couple Things I miss that I Wish Would Have Been Kept On This Unit Is First, The I-Pod Dock Plug In (I Used Highly) and Two, The Display On The Unit Does Not Display Dolby or DTS When In Use? You Have To Press Display To See On Screen. Other Than That You Guys Continue To Impress After 30 Years, Keep Up The Great Work and Don't Stop Now Boys and Girls.

I've been a fan of Yamaha receivers since the early 90's. I was a surround sound junky from the very beginnings in the late 80's. Over 6-7 years I tried Techniques, JVC, Onkyo, Carver, and Sony receivers and then I purchased a Yamaha RX-V1070. The sound quality was head and shoulders above the rest. It was the best bang for the buck and I was allowed to purchase the floor model for a $300 price reduction, so I picked it up for around $1200. I upgraded that receiver to a RX-2400 in 2003 and again I was blown away by the sound quality for the money, since it was less than $1000. I went from basic Dolby Surround, which was just L,C,R and a mono signal that was sent to two rear speakers, to 7.1 Dolby Digital EX and 6.1 DTX ES Recently, I upgraded my home theater again and decided upon the RX-A3050. I purchased it though a local vendor and didn't notice for a few months that what I actually had was the RX-A3040. The local vendor wouldn't take the receiver back, nor would he refund me the difference. While this is transpiring, the RX-A3040 developed a small issue with the LED front display and I called Yamaha to see about getting a warrantee repair. While I was talking to the rep, I mentioned what had happened with me paying for a RX-A3050, but getting a RX-A3040 instead. The rep asked me to email my bill of sale and the serial number. The next day I had an email with a pre-paid shipping label and a letter stating that Yamaha was replacing my RX-A3040 with a brand new RX-A3050. Incorporating my RX-V2400, I've got 11.2 channels, or 7.2.4 channel sound, decoding with Dolby Atmos or DTS:X and I can honestly say that my home theater sounds better that any of our local theaters, including our IMAX and GTX theaters. The generosity of Yamaha, coupled with sound that's shocking good, and a superior build quality - all 3 of my receivers are still in continuous use (I'm using the RX-V1070 to power our outdoor speakers and that receiver is 20 years old) has made me a loyal for life fanboy. All that being said, the RX-A3050 has some issues. It is not easy to set up. It initially took 3 phone calls and several hours to get my system up and running. The menus can be confusing at first. The remote is total junk. I'm still using the remote from the RX-V2400, since it's a learning remote, it makes it infinitely more flexible and it has larger buttons. YPAO's distance measurements aren't accurate. It keeps thinking my L and R speakers are 40 feet away, when they're more like 8 feet away. The iOS controller app isn't very good as it suffers from a split personality. On one hand, it allows you to tweak certain settings without interrupting what you're watching. On the other hand, to get to other functions, the app turns into a virtual remote, which definitely disrupts anything you're trying to watch with onscreen menus. It'd be great if the app allowed all settings to be changed behind the scenes, so to speak. AirPlay video isn't supported, which is somewhat disappointing. It'd be nice instead of saying 'Surround Decode' when playing back movies, it'd display Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby Digital EX, DTS HD, DTS ES, etc... It's also disappointing that the RX-A3050 doesn't have switched plugs on the back to power the subwoofers, so subs that don't have 'triggering' don't have to be manually turned off and on. But, a home theater is all about the sound and in that department, this is easily a 5 star receiver.

Yamaha 3050 was the replacement of an Integra DTR 8.8 and do not regret the change. It does everything you want and more, and does it very well.

This is my 4th receiver in the last 15 years.I purchase this because of the DTS-X. I understand the release does not fall solely on Yamaha But what I would like to see Yamaha do is keep the consumer updated on the release date anything would be better than nothing. It's been 7 months since the 3050 was released and not a peep of a release date or that your looking at a projected date. You got to give us something.Overall I love Yamaha and will only purchase Yamaha to the day I die!!! But give us something.

This unit has finally resolved all of my "handshake" issues with my Samsung UN65JS9500. Goodbye Onkyo forever! I am a Yamaha convert. After so many issues I almost gave up but my friend suggested I try Yamaha. I'm glad I listened. I can't wait for the DTS:X firmware update. It already does an amazing job with Dolby Atmos. I own and have tried all of their already released Atmos blu-rays and I have DTS:X "Ex Machina" waiting to be heard! The unit is also future ready with all HDMI ready for True Ultra HD 4K. Only downside is that I didn't find Yamaha sooner!

First Yamaha AV receiver replacing my old 5.1 AV receiver. Love it! Bought it because best combination of features to help "future proof" it. Still getting used to all the new features and what sounds best in my setup. Right now prefer the non-DSP modes.

I mentioned that the 3050 sounds pretty close to some nice processors and I meant that, but what I forgot to mention is that external amplification for the front three is a must to reach this level of performance. I used the internal amps for the 8 surrounds in a 7.1.4 setup and having the 3040 & 3050 powering them sounds very impressive. The processing that this receiver is capable of is quite astonishing, but remember a nice external amp for the front three is a must to reach these levels of performance!!

I have had my share of AVRs in the last few years including the Marantz SR7009, SR7008 & SR7005, RX-A3010, RX-A3040 and now the RX-A3050 and all I can say is that this sounds very close to some expensive processors(AV8801 & Sigma SSP) that I have had. This is an amazing receiver and has my highest recommendation!!

AVENTAGE AV Receivers: Designed to Deliver the Highest Levels of Audio Performance
The AVENTAGE line of high-performance AV receivers is based on the audio design concept of providing a massive, full-bodied sound for movie sound effects and the accurate reproduction of music sources. By expertly harmonizing traditional and advanced technologies, every factor that affects sound quality, from materials and parts to construction, layout, vibration damping (unique foot) and "fine-tuning" the sound, is handled with no other thought than to achieve the best possible audio quality. As a result, every AVENTAGE model has the ability to reproduce the most subtle details of high-definition sound, so that listeners can enjoy a truly high-class sound studio experience at home.
Sound Tuning Achieved with High Quality Parts for Optimum Performance
Every single part in an AV receiver affects the sound quality. For AVENTAGE models, extra time is taken to find (or develop) the exact parts needed to achieve the highest performance possible. Sound technicians go through a testing process to, in effect, "tune" the receiver's sound.
Ultra-high Performance DACs for Superior Sound Quality
An ultra-high performance ESS Technology 192 kHz/32 bit ES9016 DAC produces an unsurpassed sound stage with up to 124 dB dynamic range, super low distortion and noise level. High-quality ESS ES9006 DACs power the presence channels. This AV receiver's sound reproduction is for the most discriminating of listeners.
Symmetrical Power Amplifier Layout
This is just one of the many design details that all combine to create a superior receiver. The interior of the unit has been precisely planned, circuit-routed and built so that the left and right channels are physically and electrically isolated. This naturally maximizes channel separation but also greatly improves signal to noise ratio and also helps to achieve a wide open sound stage.
Anti-Resonance Technology Wedge Helps to Ensure that Vibrations Do Not Affect Sound Quality
The Anti-Resonance Technology Wedge is a fifth foot in the center of the unit. It dampens vibrations from the power transformer, power transistors and heat sinks, as well as vibrations that might be caused by the sound from the speakers.
Aluminum Front Panel Offers Visual and Aural Benefits
All of the AVENTAGE components feature the same sleek, clean design, with an elegant aluminum front panel and silky touch volume/selector knobs. The aluminum front panel is used to effectively shield sensitive circuitry from external noise and electronic radiation generated by dimmer switches, fluorescent lighting, video monitors and so on. This ensures optimum sonic performance in the widest range of installation environments.
H-shaped Cross Member Frame
The interior of the receiver is reinforced with cross members in an H shape to provide an extremely rigid and stable frame. This reduces chassis vibration to virtually zero even during high volume output (seemingly minor vibrations can affect the sound), maintaining the highest audio quality.
Bluetooth Compatible for Wireless Music Streaming
The RX-A1050 is equipped with Bluetooth functionality to let you easily enjoy wireless music playback from smartphones and other devices. The Compressed Music Enhancer from Yamaha is now optimized for Bluetooth audio transmissions to ensure that your music will have vivid, lively sound quality during wireless playback.
Full Support of HDMI 2.0a Spec: 4K Ultra HD Video Upconversion, HDCP 2.2 and High Dynamic Range (HDR)
This unit supports the latest HDMI standards thanks to the transmission of 4K video at 60 frames per second (pass-through and video upscaling). Fully enjoy the high definition video quality of 4K without degradation along with HDCP 2.2 that fully complies with the latest copyright protection, a standard for 4K video transmission. It also supports HDR video which provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. A future firmware update will be required to enable HDR.
Yamaha Video Processing
With expertise in engineering exceptional video projectors, Yamaha has produced various advanced processing techniques that are applied to this AV receiver's video upscaling capabilities. These include edge adaptive deinterlacing to smooth out jaggy noise, motion adaptive deinterlacing to detect moving or still images and multi-cadence detection that includes 3-2 pull-down.
Advanced HDMI Zone Switching Allows Unprecedented AV Switching to Multiple Zones
While standard HDMI zone switching can only send HD video programs to the main and second zones, advanced HDMI zone switching from Yamaha adds the capability to choose from all audio and video sources for playback in either zone.2 An on-screen graphical user interface makes it easy to browse and select content to enjoy from the second zone no matter what is being played in the Main Zone.
