I purchased this unit to fill my needs as the more feature rich/ expensive unit is out for warranty repair after 7 years. I miss my video up conversion and this unit has plastic clip in terminals for all but the 2 front channels. Light, awkwardly weighted remote...but...the sound from this unit is richer, warmer and has better separation! Great bang for the buck!

I purchased this system to provide a moderately priced A/V system to consolidate a number of inputs for my bedroom flat-screen TV. As such it worked very well initially. It was easy to set up and adjust for optimum sound reproduction. With 4 HDMI inputs which were sufficient for my needs it provided an easy way to control which system provided input to my flat-screen without having to plug and unplug the systems I intended to use. The only problem was after owning the system a little less than a year I started having problems with the system turning on but either no picture being produced or a solid pink display. I discovered that if I did a factory reset to original specifications I could get the system back to normal function. Then it began occurring more and more often, and requiring the use of the factory reset procedure several times to get a picture. After having it in the shop twice I contacted Yamaha who agreed with me that there was a significant problem with my receiver, and agreeing to allow me to return it to their repair facility and having the system replaced with a new one. Great customer service.

We use this for our home theatre system with klipsch speakers. It's an excellent system. The only thing I would gripe about would be the rca plug for audio and visual, you have to use the stardard rca plug for the visual, it will not trasmit through hdmi. It's a little thing, since we only use the standard old school rca connections for our children's karaoke machine.

The Yamaha RX-V377 is a nice unit setup and operation are easy and straightforward the sound is acceptable, however several days after receiving the unit it has developed a problem. It's going back for warranty repair when I have the time to make arrangements. I have had Yamaha audio products for over 40 years they are good products. and as an electronics engineer I know this sort of thing can occur, due to the problem being heat related I know it can slip by a quality control inspection fairly easily.

When looking for a receiver for our upstairs game-room, the first thing I think of is Yamaha. I found the Yamaha RX-V377 at a very good price and did not hesitate looking for anything else. Easy set up and sounds great. What else is there to ask for.

The receiver drives two Polk-Audio, Monitor 70, Series II, in a simple sterile set up, since my living room is not conducive to a surround sound setup. Basic setup was easy to figure out. FM antenna was a bit of a challenge, which I managed to solve connecting the supplied antenna wire to a spare whip antenna I happen to have which I attached to the top of my TV. There is a rich array of controls to this receiver, and figuring out what they do and how to do that comes out to be a challenge. The manual is confusing to say the least. It contains too many pictures, with captions linking two different pages forcing one to go back and forth. Often it is not clear what the features do, and I had to search of the web for the meaning of several of the acronyms in the manual. It seems that I would have to use a lot of trial and error to get optimal use of this receiver. Still, I am happy with my purchase and satisfied with the sound quality.

This is used in my living room (home built in 1958 @ 1100 square feet) and does a magnificent job as a virtual 5.1 surround system. All speakers are in the front but he sound seems to immerse you. This serves as my stereo system, HTPC and general surfing and I love it. It replaced the sound bar on my 50 Samsung Smart TV and there is no comparison. It would be hard to bet this Receiver at this price.

The set up itself went easily but then when trying to operate the system the confusion set in. I would have appreciated clearer easier to understand directions for the average user. We hooked this up with a surround sound speaker system and it took us over a week to get it synced and working properly. I called several times but found the support staff talking over my head. I wish we could sync this remote to all (tv- receiver - blu ray) our devices but it doesn't seem possible. Tried again to get support for this but it was very difficult. I do understand a bit about these systems but feel simpler instructions would be a great benefit.

Had an earlier Yamaha amp that did not pass-thru the audio on the HDMI ports. This one works fine.

We purchased a home with surround system wiring and wanted a receiver that was relatively inexpensive, easy to set up, and not "intimidating" for a novice user. This system is great - easy to set up and great sound

This is a surprisingly good receiver for the price. There's some flexibility in assigning HDMI and digital inputs, which is nice. It doesn't have a ton of power but is plenty for smaller spaces like apartments and bedrooms. The On Screen Display is a nice feature at this price point, although it's only available via HDMI. It's not without its negatives, however. It lacks a phono input. The AM radio is completely deaf and the FM lacks a stereo/mono button and mutes on weak signals, which also cannot be defeated. The radio also lacks RDS, while the European version has this. The remote is clunky and hard to use in dim lighting. Mine came new out of the box with two defective buttons. I mentioned this in the comments when I registered the receiver but never heard back from Yamaha. Overall, the good outweighs the bad. I'd recommend this model to anyone looking for a smaller receiver, with the caveat that the remote is a defective disappointment.

Does not work with a Comcast remote. Not necessarily Yamaha's fault, but not resolved (tried numerous times with both Comcast and Yamaha). Two remotes are needed in my family room (that stinks). Would have selected another receiver if I knew.

This is my last system and the RX-V377 is about as complete an entry level 4K ready receiver as I could have expected to find at this price point. It has more functions that help you get the sound you want out of your speakers and I just sent back the sub and surround speakers of a different brand and after reconfiguring these Mains seem to be carrying a lot of the sub load so I can still enjoy this system until the new Yamaha sub arrives. I don't consider myself an Audiophile but 50 years in music tells me I have made a good decision with this receiver. The only thing I don't like at all is the remote. It should have a curved and rubberized feel and the buttons should be more distinctive especially the most used one's. Very, Very Uncomfortable Yamaha. It should also be backlit. All the functions can't be covered by pairing to your cable's remote so that won't help people like me with arthritis and who make more adjustments than other's might.

I searched for the highest rated receiver in my price range, and settled on the Yamaha RX-V377. I am 100% satisfied with my purchase I tried the auto-setup utilizing the ypao mic, but did not achieve the sound I was looking for, so I manually adjusted levels of my speakers, and now my home theater is delivering full, nicely-balanced sound. I love having hdmi connectivity to all components of my entertainment system. Fewer cables, and simpler, cleaner installation.

I had to replace my 3 year old Pioneer Elite (Junk) Home Theater receiver because it died. I did all the research that took me to the Yamaha RX-V677. I was so blown away by how much better it was than the Pioneer not just sound but the picture was better as well. So I knew it was Yamaha for any new receivers. I decided to upgrade the bedroom receiver, it's a 5.1 system I don't need a second zone and 100 watts seemed to be enough, so I went with the RX-V377. Well no surprise like the 677 all the hookups are HDMI and I had zero handshake issues (unlike the Pioneer) everything worked the first time without programming. My cable box remote works everything again without any programming. It sounds great. The only drawback is I now want to upgrade my Sub. To describe it in one word "Perfect"

This thing kicks butt. I use some small Pyle book shelf speakers (200 watt fronts 100 watt center & rear). And I run a klipshe powered sub. It sounds great & is very easy to set up & use. I've owned more expensive systems but this set up is by far the best one I've heard.

Great entry level receiver
By Tao
I am using this to power are small set of 5.1 book shelf speakers (Monoprice 10565) for my PC for gaming. The Virtual Cinema Front feature combined with the YPAO calibration makes for a surround experience I have never had before on PC. Pros: The basic DSP modes work very well. Many DSP modes on other devices are a little too much, and generally get turned off because they are not as good as a 'straight' sound signal. The Pro Logic surround decoder really enhanced tv shows which are normally...

This is a great receiver
By Courtney C.
I bought this to replace a cheap Insignia brand receiver that I had picked up on sale a few years back, and I'm glad I did. It's got plenty of power to annoy your neighbors with if you're in an apartment like me, but the sound quality is just incredible. Something that was sorely lacking in my previous receiver.
Discrete amplifier circuit design, along with new Virtual CINEMA FRONT and Extra Bass, enhance the capabilities and performance of this 5.1-channel AV receiver, providing a great sounding home theater experience. The Yamaha RXV377BL 5.1 Channel 3D A/V Home Theater Receiver provides advanced HDMI features including pass-through of 4K Ultra HD, which is gaining popularity. 4K Ultra HD refers to four times the resolution of a 1080p display. This receiver is capable of passing the 4K Ultra HD data from the source to the monitor for image clarity far beyond present standards.
HDMI with 3D and Audio Return Channel
3D means the receiver can handle 3D signal data. The Audio Return Channel function enables data to be sent and received via the same HDMI cable so you can hear the sound from the TV via a single HDMI cable with no need for an extra optical cable.
SCENE for One-touch Start
Pressing a SCENE button powers on the AV receiver and selects the input source and DSP mode. You can reset the buttons for different sources by selecting a source and DSP mode, then pressing a SCENE button for more than three seconds.
HDMI CEC for Easy Operation
Another benefit of HDMI is the availability of CEC functionality. When the unit is connected to a CEC compatible TV, it will turn on and off together with the TV and you can use the TV remote to control the volume. CEC also provides advanced functionality with other components. For example, you can use the receiver's remote unit to control player functions like skip and stop. All connected devices must be HDMI CEC compatible. Some CEC compatible TVs/players may not work.
USB Digital Connection for iPod and iPhone on the Front Panel
A USB port on the front panel allows convenient connection of an iPod / iPhone, which also charges when connected. Because the digital signal from the iPod / iPhone is transmitted directly to the AV receiver, there is no signal loss or interference so you enjoy the best possible sound quality. In addition, you can use the receiver's remote control unit to operate the iPod / iPhone music playback functions.
YPAO Sound Optimization for Automatic Speaker Set Up
YPAO analyzes the room acoustics and adjusts various audio parameters for optimum sound in just a few minutes. It's like having a professional installer calibrate your system.
Virtual CINEMA FRONT
With Virtual CINEMA FRONT, you will enjoy virtual 5-channel surround sound with higher quality and resolution by installing surround speakers at the front. You get more flexibility to arrange your speakers inside the room, along with easy enjoyment of high quality surround sound.
HD Audio with CINEMA DSP
Yamaha's exclusive CINEMA DSP technology supports playback of HD Audio (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, etc.), providing natural and expansive sound imaging.
Extra Bass Provides Rich Bass Reproduction, Even with Small Speakers
Yamaha's exclusive low-range enhancement technology delivers richer bass than you expect from the speaker size while maintaining good localization and sound balance even with compact front speakers. When a subwoofer is used, it improves the volume of the entire low range of the speaker system, not only the front speakers, but also enhancing the bass from the subwoofer. You'll enjoy video and music with sound that has exceptional power and presence.
Subwoofer Trim Control for Improved Sound Imaging
The Subwoofer Trim Control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. This will result in a cleaner, more focused sound stage while providing a seamless frequency response. When subwoofer frequency overlap occurs in conventional systems, the overall sound is "pushed" toward the subwoofer. Subwoofer Trim Control takes care of this by separating the low subwoofer frequencies cleanly, thus stabilizing the front stage while providing a well-balanced enhanced bass sound.
Compressed Music Enhancer
When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha's Compressed Music Enhancer employs sophisticated digital signal processing using exclusive algorithms to restore what was lost, so the music always sounds the way it should.
Discrete Amp Configuration for High Sound Quality
This AV receiver was designed with a strong focus on achieving exceptionally high sound clarity. It employs a discrete amp configuration and a low jitter PLL circuit, which contribute to its excellent audio performance.
ECO Mode Lowers Power Consumption by 20 Percent
Yamaha's new ECO mode reduces power consumption by about 20 percent. It can be set from the top of the GUI menu. Compared to power consumption when ECO mode is off (Yamaha measurement).
Selectable Auto Power Down
Auto power down lets you save energy by selecting to turn off the power after two, four, eight or 12 hours.
Connection for YBA-11 Bluetooth Wireless Adapter
This AV receiver provides a DC out connection for the YBA-11 Bluetooth wireless technology adapter (optional accessory). You'll be able to stream music wirelessly from a Bluetooth-capable smartphone, tablet or PC, without a Wi-Fi environment.
