Zeiss's Biogons are fantastic and are my choice for M mount super and ultra wides. I had previously owned a Contax RTS III system and was wowed with its Zeiss optics such as the Distagon 28mm f/2.8 (which I later adapted to Canon bodies as well). Fast forward ten or so years when I started building up a Leica system and Zeiss just happened to (re-?)launch the Ikon system and the ZM lenses. For a short time I owned an older 2nd version Leica 28mm f/2.8 that was a nice introduction to M mount wides but it was quite soft in the corners and I always felt like 28 perhaps wasn't as wide as I'd like so I sold it and bought the Zeiss 25/2.8. Initially I used it on my M6 and then dedicated an M2 to it and its VF. I also used it on a NEX-5 body before I got a FF Leica body. In all situations and mediums it never ceased to impress me with its sharpness, contrast, and color fidelity. Now I also use it on an M-D 262 body and it really shines. I just added the 21/2.8 Biogon and it, too, is an inspiring and impressive lens. I've auditioned the various Leica super wides and while they are also naturally very impressive, the gap in performance vs. the gap in price leaves me very happy with my decision to use Zeiss and I'm left not wanting in the slightest. Close up performance is superb and the bokeh is smooth and creamy. Hyperfocal shooting is also excellent. At f/11 everything from 3 feet to infinity is tack sharp. Especially in super and ultra wides for M mount, the Zeiss Biogons, in my opinion, are right up there with the best. They give the Leica equivalents some serious, serious competition.

Over the past half-century, the M-mount rangefinder camera system has been the go-to choice for discerning 35mm photographers. The 25mm f/2.8 Biogon T* ZM Lens for Leica M, Black, is a testament to this enduring legacy. This lens, a powerful complement to the 35mm "standard wide-angle" lens, is renowned for its exceptional brilliance and resolution across all aperture settings.
Constructed with nine elements, this lens is based on the symmetric Carl Zeiss Biogon design, a hallmark of superior lens craftsmanship. The high image quality and virtually imperceptible distortion make this lens an ideal tool for capturing wide vistas, breathtaking landscapes, dynamic cityscapes, and intricate architectural details.
The M-mount system offers a unique advantage for lens designers: more space. Without the need for a moving reflex mirror and drive mechanism, the distance between the last lens element and the film can be significantly reduced. This opens up a world of possibilities for superior lens design, including high-performing wide-angle lenses.
The development of the Carl Zeiss T* ZM-mount lenses was a dream realized for our lens designers. They were able to channel their passion for perfection into creating a range of lenses that are unrivaled in terms of performance, reliability, and image quality.
These lenses feature advanced flare control for crisp, brilliant images and virtually zero geometric distortion, ensuring precise accuracy when reproducing shapes - a critical feature for product and architectural photography.
The Carl Zeiss T* ZM-mount lenses are designed to minimize focus shift with aperture changes, a significant innovation that enhances rangefinder photography. The result is improved accuracy of the rangefinder-defined focus. The precision of the 10-blade aperture with 1/3 stop interval click stops ensures exact exposure.
For durability and reliability, these lenses are designed with a wear-resistant filter mount and an extremely accurate rangefinder coupling mechanism. Experience the superior quality and performance of the 25mm f/2.8 Biogon T* ZM Lens for Leica M, Black, a testament to the enduring legacy of M-mount photography.
