The Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8M Lens (Sony E-Mount) is a moderate telephoto prime lens designed for use on cameras with APS-C format sensors and as such provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 75mm. This lens is compatible with Sony E mirrorless cameras and supports all camera functions, including autofocus and exposure control. With a 1:1 magnification ratio, it offers close-up macro capability and its minimum focus distance is 6". An f/2.8 maximum aperture is effective in low light and provides shallow depth of field focus. A complex floating lens system ensures a uniform length when focusing and provides consistently sharp performance. The optical design includes two aspherical elements and two anomalous partial dispersion elements which minimize lateral and longitudinal chromatic aberrations. Its nearly circular 9-blade diaphragm combined with depth of field control enables imaging with a soft, pleasing, out-of-focus background. It is an ideal lens for portraiture, still-life, landscape and numerous other photo and video applications. The physical construction of the lens features a sleek, all black, metal lens barrel with rubberized control rings for smooth precision when working with manual focus. A metal bayonet mount ensures accurate alignment. For optimum compatibility of Touit lenses on Sony NEX cameras it is recommend to use the latest firmware (1.02 for NEX-5R/NEX-6 and 1.03 for NEX-7 or higher). The firmware can be downloaded from the Sony website.  Sony E Compatibility  Designed for use on Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras, its 35mm focal length equivalence is 75mm. The lens offers complete compatibility with all camera functions, including accurate autofocus and exposure control. It features a wide f/2.8 maximum aperture for effective low-light shooting as well as greater control over the focus plane for shallow depth of field and selective focus applications. Optical Design  A floating element design provides images with sharp delineation and means the lens does not extend during focus. The optical construction includes two aspherical elements and two anomalous partial dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortion. Physical Design  A durable metal barrel with rubberized control rings provide improved handling. The metal bayonet mount ensures a solid connection between the camera and lens and a nine-blade, nearly circular aperture is used to render soft, out-of-focus highlights.

I have used this lens since right after it was released and over the years it has been responsible for many of my favorite images. It does an amazing job with macro, but many of those favorites have been street shots, landscape and portraits. It so sharp right from f2.8, which adds to its versatility and the gorgeous rendering that it produces. It also has it's own subtile coloration that brings something special to the overall image quality. I have had the 50mm f2, the 90mm f2 and the 56mm f1.2 as well as the 50-140 f2.8 at various times and those are all impeccable optics in their own right, but that inexplicable quality that adds an element of art to an image comes though with this lens in it's own individual way that always makes it a joy to use.

Still Amazing After All These Years

I have both Crop and Full Frame Sony Mirrorless Cameras.  I have the 90mm Sony FE Macro Lens which is a little overpowering for my A6300 & A6500 bodies and I was not pleased with the focus window that limits the usefulness of extension rings.  I looked at many alternatives but settled on the Touit 2.8/50M mostly because of its size and that I already have the 12mm and 32mm Touit lenses and have been very pleased with them.  While a little pricey... it was a great decision and I have been very pleased with its performance.

This Zeiss Macro lens is an excellent alternative to the FujiFilm 60mm Macro. It is faster, and I find the wider angle (75mm equiv. vs. 90mm equiv.) more useful.
